Chapter 53: Damn Traffic Jam

Chapter 53: Damn It's a Traffic Jam on the Highway

Being stuck in traffic on the highway is a terrifying thing, you can't move forward or backward, and you're stuck there with no way to change lanes or turn around. Sometimes it's even difficult to go to the bathroom. The most terrifying experience I've had was driving from Xiangcheng to Runcheng, a 1.5 hour journey that took a whole 6 hours. From the 2.5 hour mark, I really wanted to use the restroom, but I held it in until we finally arrived at our destination and I could relieve myself, deeply experiencing the pain of "dying from holding one's urine". Now, I absolutely cannot afford to have this happen again, because once you're stuck in traffic, there's no way to make it back to Xiangcheng on time.

Wang Jue gripped the steering wheel, constantly looking out of the car. In front of us was a boundless convoy, and behind us, the cars following us were getting more and more numerous. I took a deep breath, now it's very difficult to turn around or change direction.

I decided to get off the car and walk a bit further ahead to see what was going on. I asked several drivers, but they all shook their heads and said it wasn't clear. I quickened my pace and ran a bit further forward, and could see the toll booth's roof in the distance. I asked nearby drivers again, some said the highway was closed due to traffic restrictions, others said only half of the road was open for repairs, while others claimed there had been an accident ahead and the police were handling it. In short, everyone had a different explanation, with no unified answer. One thing was certain, however: things wouldn't be back to normal anytime soon. The cars in front of and behind us had already formed a several-kilometer-long dragon, a truly spectacular sight.

Back in the car, I was already filled with worry. After telling Wang Jue about the traffic congestion, he also thought that it would be impossible to drive normally for two or three hours.

But time waits for no man, my sister's life-saving medicine must be sent back immediately! I really became an ant on a hot pot, constantly looking out the window and inquiring to the surrounding drivers.

"Xiaoyu, there's a signal here. Do you want to call the hospital and ask about the situation?" Wang Jue saw that I was anxious and also started thinking of a solution.

Right! I almost forgot, Old He is taking care of his sister in the hospital, let me give him a call! I took out my phone and searched for Old He's number.

The phone soon connected and Old Hei's voice came from the other end of the line, "Xiaoyu ah, why haven't you all been in touch these past few days? I'm going to die from worry!"

"A few words can't make it clear, how's older sister doing?"

"He made me call Li Xiaoshu, but I couldn't get through. Later he showed up at the hospital himself, reminded you of the deadline and then left. I kept calling your cell phone, but it was always out of service area. What are you kids doing? You're driving people crazy!"

It seems that Li Xiao Hao has gone to the hospital again, but because he can't reveal his true identity, he can only pretend to be Li Xiao Shu. I'm getting anxious, facing this massive traffic jam, yet there's nothing I can do. If there were rockets, I'd definitely be the first one to jump on.

"Xiaoyu, give me your phone, I want to say a couple of words to Old He."

I handed my phone over to Wang Jue, who was much calmer than I was.

"Hey, Officer He, we're having a bit of trouble. We need to get back to Xiangcheng from the Gxx highway, but there's a huge traffic jam. Is there any way we can make it back within five hours? Oh... oh... got it..."

He hung up his phone and opened the car door, rushing straight to the trunk.
