Chapter 49: Early Morning

  Chapter 49: Early Morning

Life is not as expected, eight or nine out of ten. The most unbearable thing is not the lack of hope, but the hope that was once held turning into a bubble. I lay in bed, gazing at the azure sky outside the window, thinking that today is Li Xiao's deadline, and yet I still haven't found the person to break the curse, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably.

Scene by scene, memories replayed in my mind like a movie. That year, both parents went missing, my older sister was in high school, and I was in elementary school. To help me pay tuition, my sister went to the blood bank alone, lied about her age, and sold 400cc of blood. Not only did I not appreciate it, but I also resented her for sending me to school. For several days, I didn't go home or attend classes, hiding in a game room playing video games until my sister's eyes were swollen from crying and she found me with the class teacher. When I got home, I still threw a tantrum, smashing pots and pans, and breaking doors and windows. For two whole months, the wind blowing through our house was as fierce as a northwest gale, and at night, I could only sleep in my clothes curled up under the blanket.

If I hadn't been so reckless back then, my older sister would have had a much better life. The various hardships and pressures she suffered in the first half of her life were mainly due to my recklessness. How much I owe her, even I myself can't calculate.

The more I think about it, the more regretful and painful it becomes. I hit my head hard with my fist. But even if I were to twist my head off, it would be of no use in our current situation. In this godforsaken wilderness, it's impossible to contact Li Xiaoshu, let alone negotiate with him about exchanging the postal certificate for my sister's life. Moreover, after last night's fierce battle, both Wang Jue and I have suffered significant losses, and it's impossible for us to drive non-stop back to Wangcheng unless one of us becomes Superman.

Just as I was sorrowing alone, the door was knocked. I responded with a sound, and Wang Jue brought in a plate of breakfast and pushed the door open. I got up and leaned on the bed, eating breakfast while asking him about last night's affairs.

"What do you remember about last night?" I asked.

Wang Jue shook his head and said that the last thing he could remember was the village chief ordering to extinguish two torches on the mountain waist, and everyone stood in the dark mountain waist. After that, there was no memory. It wasn't until dawn when he woke up that he found his companions lying horizontally and vertically on the mountain path. He was leaning against a tree, with a big gash on his thigh, but it had stopped bleeding.

It wasn't until now that I remembered being cut on the thigh by a white flower knife last night. Touching my thigh, it was already bandaged with gauze and still hurt a little.

"What did the village chief say happened last night?" I was puzzled, they all participated in that fierce battle, but didn't leave any memory.

"The village head just kept his mouth shut and said you've made a great contribution, everyone in the village wants to repay you."

Alas! I leaned my head against the headboard, recalling that bloody scene, and still decided not to tell Wang Jue what had happened. Whoever it was, if they knew they had become a "slasher" in an unconscious state, it's impossible for them not to have some psychological shadow.

"I don't know how older sister is doing, when can we go back?"

"Oh, right. Before the village head came up earlier, he asked me to cut a lock of your hair for him. Said someone can cure your sister's Gu poison."

Upon hearing this, I couldn't care less about the pain in my leg and scrambled up. Is there someone who can cure the Gu poison? Don't even mention a strand of hair, I'd give him my entire head.

I pulled Wang Jue and hastily arrived at the main house. The village chief was drinking tea, saw us, smiled and greeted us.

"Can anyone cure the venom?" I asked him excitedly.
