Chapter 2: The Change of Emotions
After Wenjing grew up from a little girl to a big girl, we also had one or two touches when we were alone. The other day, I was lying on the sofa watching TV and casually scratched her feet. Wenjing and I made trouble, and after making trouble, she fell into my arms. After an awkward eye contact, Wenjing's face turned red, she tensed up her body, closed her eyes tightly, only her eyelashes were trembling, and she didn't even dare to breathe loudly. At a glance, it was obvious that she was an inexperienced and shy little girl.
A newcomer driving a car, no matter how big their courage is, can't drive with the same ease and elegance as an old driver. And at this time, Wenjing, even if she had taken medicine, shouldn't be so calm and composed, should she?
I hastily pushed her away, grasping her wrist to prevent her from moving around, and nervously asked, "Lass, have you gone mad?"
She remained oblivious, still with a deeply emotional and helpless expression, her tears falling like pearls as she asked me to hold her. Her charming and alluring demeanor almost scared me to death, so I decided to quickly take her to the hospital. Before we even left the door, my friend called, saying he had arrived downstairs and would be right up.
It's an emergency, so I followed what the TV said and carried Wenjing to the bathroom, hoping that cold water could wake her up. However, Wenjing seemed to have fainted, with her eyes tightly closed, unable to stand still, her scorching body slowly cooling down, and her breathing gradually subsiding. I hesitated for a moment, then poured a basin of water over her head. Wenjing shivered with cold, opened her eyes dazedly, found herself soaked, looked a bit frightened, wrapped her clothes tightly around her, and asked me: "Brother, what are you doing?"
The knock on the door sounded, I didn't have time to explain, and hastily carried her back to the bedroom, only saying: "The doctor is here to see you, hurry up and change your clothes."
A friend brought in an old man of about seventy years, who was spirited and had a kind face, with a slightly red complexion as if he had been drinking some wine. He greeted me cheerfully and asked where the patient was.
I said I'd be right out, and had my friend go to the kitchen to pour tea for the old Chinese doctor. Taking advantage of the opportunity, I steeled myself and said: "Old sir, my sister's illness is a bit strange, it seems like she ate some kind of medicine, just now she was always with me...I want you to help me take a look, has she been...you know?"
The old man turned his head in a daze, and after three to five seconds, he suddenly realized, but with sparkling eyes, asked me in a low and gossipy tone: "I get it, did you two have that thing?"
I hastily said no and briefly described the situation at the time.
The old Chinese doctor comforted me, saying that the problem was not serious. The medicine only works when you're intimate with someone, and pouring cold water on it just suppresses your desires. He hoped that the effect of the medicine would naturally wear off, which would take at least five or six hours, so it's impossible for everything to return to normal immediately. It must be the fever that caused my confusion, revealing my true intentions. Finally, he patted my hand and gave me a sly smile: "You have a great sister, huh? Hehe, your female cousin is the most...".
The friend brought back a cup of water, and the old Chinese doctor hastily sat up, with a dignified appearance, picked up the cup to drink. At this time, Wenjing came out of the bedroom, her face was a bit pale, but her spirit was still good. I was about to introduce them when suddenly there was a "pa" sound, the old Chinese doctor's cup fell to the ground, and he himself also showed a terrified expression, his eyes wide open, his face turned deathly pale, staring at Wenjing with an incredulous gaze, filled with intense fear.
My heart sank, and I asked him what was wrong. The old Chinese doctor hastily lowered his head, picked up the fragments of the cup, and said incoherently that it was nothing, his hand... his hand trembled slightly.
A few seconds later, the old Chinese doctor raised his head and smiled stiffly. He didn't look at Wen Jing, beckoned her to sit down, took her pulse again, and prescribed a few more doses of medicine. The diagnosis process did not exceed three minutes. He said it was just an ordinary case of virtual cold syndrome, and that replenishing blood would be fine. Then he stood up and bid farewell.
I wanted to see him off, but he kept saying no need, even refusing friends' offers to send him home, as if eager to escape. I felt something was wrong and insisted on seeing him out the door. In the elevator, I asked him what was wrong with Wenjing.
The old Chinese doctor smiled dryly and told me not to worry too much. He said that during this period, I should quietly think about what I want to eat or drink and try my best to satisfy those cravings.
I cried out in despair, isn't there anything that can be done?
The old Chinese doctor hastily shook his head and explained that a cheerful mood is helpful for recovery from illness, and I had misunderstood.
Although that's what he said, just now it was clearly the tone of entrusting later affairs. I had a lot of doubts in my heart and followed him from behind to persuade him with good words. No matter how dry my mouth and tongue were, the old Chinese doctor remained silent. Standing on the side of the road waiting for a taxi, he finally got annoyed and said impatiently: "Don't force me, go ask someone else!"
As expected, there was a problem. I continued to plead with him, but the old Chinese doctor looked gloomy and pulled out three strands of white hair from his head, wrapped them in a handkerchief, lit it with a lighter, and threw it into the grass by the side of the road. After the handkerchief had burned to ashes, he trampled on it three times, spat three mouthfuls of saliva, and without looking at me again, hailed a taxi and left.
I stood at the side of the road with a stunned expression, thinking about his previous actions, feeling extremely disgusted in my heart. The old man and his mother were trying to ward off evil spirits or something, who are they disgusting?!
After not being able to determine the cause of Wenjing's illness, a friend sent us to the hospital after we got home. After more than two hours of hassle, the result was that Wenjing is still healthy, but indeed has some Qi and blood deficiency. The friend told me not to worry, he will have the opportunity to ask that old Chinese doctor again, and then sent us back home before leaving.
But thinking of the old Chinese doctor's strange behavior before he left, I couldn't put my mind at ease. Nothing happens without a reason, and all these strange things that have been happening to me in the past few days started from when that old lady hid gold jewelry in my home.
I have an idea, could it be that the quiet and unassuming daughter-in-law didn't return the jewelry to the old lady, and now the old lady's ghost is haunting her? Or perhaps, the old lady's children discovered the truth and are blackmailing her?
Let Wenjing wait at home, I'll go upstairs to settle the account with them. Even if Wenjing was wrong first, it's not right to make fun of a girl's chastity.
No one answered the door, but the neighbor from across the door came out and told me that no one was home. The old lady lived alone and had passed away, her children had all returned to their respective homes.
Couldn't find the culprit, so I went home to ask Wenjing if she had eaten anything given by others today. Wenjing said no, just that at noon when sending lunch, she got rained on and her head was dizzy, so she lay down on the sofa for a while. She even complained that I was making a big deal out of nothing.
Although she said so, the happy expression on her face couldn't be hidden. I had an idea and told her in a deeply emotional tone that I found disgusting myself, that apart from my parents, she was the person I cared about most, and if anything happened, she should tell me first, even if the sky fell, I would help her bear it.
Wen Jing looked a bit shy and lowered her head, saying that the person she cared about most was also me.
Very sentimental, but didn't confess his own love affair.
I had no choice but to ask her again if anyone had introduced any boys to her recently?
She said no, I made a serious face and said, don't deceive me, if one day I find out you have a mistress, I will turn my back on you.
She was quiet for a moment, I don't know what she was thinking about, her face turned red, and she hugged my waist tightly. She looked up at me with sincere eyes and said that she would never deceive me, and that everything would be done according to my wishes. If I didn't like it if she found a boyfriend, then she would remain unmarried for the rest of her life.
This sentence made me feel a wave of emotion, the room was filled with an awkward and ambiguous tenderness, I coughed twice, touched her dog's head, didn't dare to look at her, wondering what she really meant.
Sister said such obedient words to brother, it's nothing wrong, but maybe she is measuring others by her own standard, I always feel that Wenjing is hinting at something.
I can also sense that Wenjing's dependence on me has exceeded the scope of siblings, but it's not without reason. Her father passed away, her mother abandoned her, and she was already very lonely. My mom doesn't know why, but she seems to dislike Wenjing, otherwise she wouldn't have let her do household chores at such a young age.
Growing up in this environment, Wenjing is a bit introverted and weak, only willing to open her heart to me. Moreover, girls like to read those messy romantic novels, who knows if she really has some improper thoughts. These days, she sleeps with my older sister, if those old women who are knowledgeable about the ways of the world instill some bad ideas in her...
So lunch became exquisite, and her panic that day can be explained. I guessed it right, it was indeed prepared for the one in her heart.
It's very likely that she pretended to have a fever and took advantage of the opportunity to seduce me, and it was also that older sister who came up with the idea!
My guess was correct, but I was flustered and after sensing her quiet intentions, I suddenly felt a sense of resistance and fear towards her. I don't know where this rejection came from, there's just a voice inside me screaming that I must stay away from her, best never to meet again.
I know it's not good, but for the next three days, as soon as Wenjing appears in front of me, my heart will throb repeatedly, I don't know if she has noticed my distance.
Her behavior became strange, or rather gloomy. Sometimes I would inadvertently find her staring at me with a cold gaze in some corner of the house. When I plucked up the courage to ask her what was wrong, the muscles on her face twitched and the corners of her mouth slightly rose as she gave a faint smile, but it was full of disdain and contempt.
I feel like I'm being driven crazy by her little eyes, so I decided to have an open and honest talk with her. If she really has that kind of idea, then I'll spend the rest of my life taking care of her.
Ironically, before I had a chance, I almost ended up in a grave.
