Chapter Thirty-One: Poseidon
Karamay shouted: "Wait, Ah Long! Let's discuss tactics first. We can't talk underwater." But it was too late, Old Three had already jumped into the water and disappeared without a trace.
Karamay handed us the Bi Shui Dan and I asked Old Xiao: "What was that thing the kid just did?"
Xiao Lao thought for a moment and said, "It's probably a Kappa, also known as a water ghost in our folklore. However, since we've eaten the Bishui Dan, we don't have to worry about it for now. They mainly drag people into the water suddenly, causing many to drown."
"Let's go find Lao San quickly, it's so big down here, how can we find him, it's pitch black." I sighed.
Fu Ma patted me and said, "Don't worry, after we get in the water, everyone will follow me. I can find Lao San's heart voice and also know what everyone wants to say." Suddenly, my heart lit up, ah, how could I forget Fu Ma's discerning eye?
Karamay sent us a small flashlight, although it's compact, its range is very far. He muttered: "Director Mu really has foresight, all the flashlights she prepared are waterproof."
I hurried towards the sea, "Let's go find Lao San quickly."
Everyone nodded, and Karamay said: "We only have an hour, everyone hurry up, don't get stuck on anything you encounter, try to find Cangcang and Along as soon as possible, and take a look at the formation of the spirits."
We jumped into the sea one after another, and the water wasn't particularly cold. Below was almost pitch black. I turned on my flashlight and shone it around in a circle. The seafloor seemed to have a group of dissolution caves, with large and small holes connected together. Occasionally, there were a few small fish swimming by. After eating the oxygen pill, I felt like there was a constant flow of oxygen in my lungs, and I just kept exhaling nonstop.
Fu Ma shone his flashlight at me twice, indicating for me to follow him swimming over. I shone my light back at him to acknowledge, and suddenly, I noticed a large cluster of something resembling seaweed approaching beside Fu Ma. I gestured vigorously with my hands, and Fu Ma seemed to sense something was off too, turning his head to look. The dark mass quickly swam away and disappeared.
We rode our horses forward for a short while, then continued downstream. The seawater here seemed much deeper than before, as if there was something underneath, but it wasn't quite clear. We shone our flashlights together and were startled at once - there was a sunken ship under the sea! Not to mention what era this ship was from, how did it sail to this place? And how did it sink here? It's really puzzling.
He pointed downwards with his finger, indicating that we should go into the sunken ship to take a look. We nodded in agreement and as we continued diving down, I didn't feel any discomfort in my body. Could it be that this elixir can balance the pressure underwater? I thought to myself.
This sunken ship was a modern cruise liner that had capsized in the sea, its massive hull looking luxurious, with three layers of cabins. I didn't know how long it had been underwater, but it had already been severely corroded by seawater and was covered in seaweed. I noticed that there seemed to be some writing on the side of the ship, so I swam over to clear away the seaweed blocking the letters. Although they were a bit blurry, I could still make out an English word: Poseidon.
I've been more willing to read Greek myths since I was young, and this word is not unfamiliar. Translated into Chinese, it's Poseidon, one of the twelve main gods of Olympus, the sea king in Greek mythology, the shaker of the earth, his majesty matches the endless life force of the earth and the flood, also known as the Zeus of the great sea. Naming an oil tanker with this name probably also hopes to get the blessing of the sea god.
Is this a foreign ship? How did it sink here? We swam into the cabin to explore, and the corridor was very narrow. We swam in through the broken glass at the front, and there were all sorts of things scattered around inside. This cabin was larger, I guessed that it should be where the captain lived before. Suddenly, I noticed a pair of green eyes flashing in the corner of the wall, and I got excited, could it be Yang Can?
I grabbed Fuma and pointed to the dark corner, Fuma shook his head, I understood that he didn't hear any voice. Kramay also seemed to have found something wrong and swam towards that corner. Suddenly, a black shadow rushed out of the corner and pounced on him. Kramay dodged quickly, and with my flashlight, I saw that it was the kappa from earlier. It had scratched Kramay's clothes with its long fingernails and made a ghostly face at us before swimming away quickly.
Karamay beckoned to us, meaning for us to follow him. I saw that his arm was bleeding and suddenly felt something was off. I looked towards the exit of the cabin and indeed, a group of fish had gathered there at some point. They weren't very big, about the same size as ordinary carp, with bright red bellies. Although it was my first time seeing them in person, I had often seen them on TV - they were piranhas. Despite their small size, they were extremely ferocious and highly sensitive to fresh blood. Karamay, having spent many years in the wilderness, naturally recognized these fierce creatures.
Karamay, who had been stunned, swam into the cabin, and that group of piranhas chased after us. We hastily swam to a more enclosed cabin, using all our strength to close the hatch. Karamay let out a sigh of relief, but this wasn't a solution. Our Bi Shui Dan could only last an hour, and we couldn't hide here forever.
I shone my flashlight around the cabin, and everything in it was relatively well-preserved. It should be where the sailors lived, the room was small, Fan Ma had been staring at the bedside all the time. I swam over and found a metal box about two palms in size placed in the corner of the bed, but couldn't tell what material it was made of. The box was locked from the outside, and there should be something very important inside.
Fu Ma handed me the box, indicating to take it away. I nodded and put it in my backpack. We stayed in the cabin for a while, and I started to feel that the breath in my lungs seemed to be getting a bit short. Xiao Lao made a gesture of ten with his hands, and I understood that there were only ten minutes left before the Bi Shui Dan took effect.
Karamay swam to the cabin door, slightly opening a gap. Those man-eating fish seemed to have gone away. He made a gesture to us and we managed to swim ashore at the fastest speed. As soon as I left the cabin, I quickly swam upwards, but found that they didn't follow up. I turned back to see that the Kappa had grabbed Karamay's foot, he couldn't move at all.
Fu Ma hurriedly went to catch the Kappa, who suddenly gritted his teeth and revealed a ferocious expression, preparing to scratch Fu Ma with his long fingernails. The three of us tried to pull Karamay upwards, but in the water, there was no foothold, and the Kappa clung tightly to Karamay, refusing to let go, so we couldn't budge him no matter how hard we pulled.
In the distance, the man-eating fish were getting closer and closer to us. Karamay's face was ashen, he waved his hand at us, meaning for us to hurry up and leave him behind, not to worry about him. He took out a retractable rod from his waist and struck it towards the kappa, which let go of its grip after being hit. At this time, the man-eating fish had already surrounded Karamay, there was no sound in the water, I saw that Karamay's mouth was wide open, bubbles kept emerging from his mouth, I knew he must have been attacked.
I was still hesitating what to do, when Fu Ma You swam down and pulled up Karamay who was almost fainting. He made a gesture towards us to swim downstream. I and Xiao Lao looked at him in confusion. The time for the green water to arrive might be less than five minutes. Wasn't swimming downstream equivalent to waiting for death?
Fu Ma made another gesture, and we inexplicably followed him as he swam down to the shallow waters near the underwater entrance. The sea floor was filled with caves, and Fu Ma swam towards the largest one. As I looked from a distance, I saw that the cave entrance was faintly glowing with a blue light. The giant squid continued its relentless pursuit, while Fu Ma pulled Karamay forward, and Xiao Lao and I pushed from behind, desperately swimming towards the cave entrance.
That group of man-eating fish seemed to have reached the entrance of the cave, and saw something terrifying, turned around and left. I suddenly felt like I couldn't breathe, I knew that Bi Shui Dan's time had come, a mouthful of water entered my mouth, and I almost fainted, Fu Ma pulled me into the cave in one swift motion.
The entrance of the cave seemed to have a waterproof membrane, which kept the water outside and had air inside. Finally, I reached a place without water and panted heavily, coughing out the water I had inhaled earlier. Kalamayi's arm was torn by the piranhas and Fu Ma found some medicine from his bag to apply on it. Suddenly, an unusual sound came from the depths of the cave.
