Chapter 57: The Inside Story of the Small Island
Headquarters! This is the headquarters of this battlefield!
The wolf's eyes flashed with a hint of madness, having arrived on this small island three days ago. Although he had unexpectedly obtained a map, everything about this place was still unknown to him. If this was indeed the command center, then there must be something inside that piqued his interest - at the very least, he could find a "native" who knew more about this island.
The eyes of the shadow were filled with worry, and based on the intuition of a killer, he did not think that this church was so easy to attack. Otherwise, the other side would not have only sent such a small number of people as guards.
"There are only two of us, do you really want to attack this command center?" Shadow couldn't help but ask out of concern.
"Of course not." Zang Lang replied succinctly while carefully examining the surrounding terrain on the map under the faint light.
"Here," Lone Wolf said, pointing to a point on the map. "This is an ammunition dump. If you or I set it off, whether it's the garrison here or those greedy guys I didn't bring along, they'll all shift their attention there. We're only going to headquarters to borrow some materials and take a look, let's try not to clash with them." After finishing speaking, Lone Wolf sneered at Shadow "Set off the ammunition dump, are you going or am I?"
I really don't know who's the greedy one, Shadow Headache glanced at the excited-looking Lone Wolf and said, "I'll go, I haven't lived enough yet..."
Zan Lang seemed to be unfazed, putting away the map and saying, "You detonate the explosives and head to the meeting point as planned. If I don't show up within half an hour, just leave without me. That's it, let's move!"
The shadow helplessly glared at " Entrusting the aftermath" like a wounded wolf, picked up its own equipment and slipped past the ammunition pile.
The faint light of the flashlight in his hand went out, and the lone wolf carefully pried open a window that had been sealed with cement. He twisted the thermal imager, and on the other side, in the church, faint red human figures moved back and forth. On the roof, three snipers stood motionless, scanning for suspicious targets in their respective directions.
The tritium dial on his wrist rotated silently, time slowly passing by, and the gunshots behind him became fewer and farther between. If things continued like this, he might be trapped here, and Lone Wolf couldn't help but feel a little anxious.
Just as he couldn't help but want to pull the trigger, a long-awaited explosion finally reached his eardrums. He let out a sigh of relief from the bottom of his heart and continued to observe the three snipers on the rooftop with his slightly sore legs.
As expected, with the sound of the explosion, the two snipers' bodies trembled slightly, and then they quickly changed positions to aim their guns at the direction of the explosion. The remaining sniper did not make any rash moves, still aiming directly at the Lone Wolf's position.
Zanlang was taken aback for a moment, then thought to himself that he had an infrared imaging system and there was no reason why the other party wouldn't be equipped with it. Taking a deep breath, Zanlang moved his body to align himself in the direction of the explosion.
Opportunity only comes once, hoping to deceive that sniper. Zanlang silently recited in his heart. Five minutes later, Zanlang suddenly turned around, and the cross-shaped gun muzzle instantly found its target! The middle finger of his right hand decisively pulled the trigger!
The 7.62mm bullet silently hit the sniper, letting out a sigh of relief, and the Lone Wolf moved the muzzle to sweep around, the patrol team had already rushed towards the explosion area. Even two firepower points each withdrew one, and the gunfire behind them intensified again with the explosion. The Lone Wolf did not hesitate, and the G22A1 in his hand fired decisively, and the two firepower men fell down within five seconds of each other.
He glanced at the other two snipers, Can Lang put away his rifle and grabbed his backpack, rushing out of the residential building.
The church entrance is now empty, the lone wolf puts his sniper rifle on safe and leans it against the door, holding an AUG in his hand as he slowly kicks open the heavy door.
Is anyone there? The Lone Wolf looked through the gap and carefully scanned the situation inside, but there was no one, not a single person. Had he guessed wrong? The Lone Wolf shook his head to dispel this thought and stepped into the empty church with determination. In the vast space, there were no facilities that should be in a church. There was only a huge map of a small island hanging on one wall.
The lone wolf cautiously looked at the AUG in his hand, the full magazine giving him a sense of security. He carefully glanced around and then resolutely walked towards a conference table below on the map.
A large conference table was covered with dust, apparently not having been used for a long time. On it were scattered all sorts of ammunition boxes and several pornographic magazines.
Can Lang casually picked up a few usable clips and stuffed them into his pocket, rummaged through without finding anything useful, Can Lang glanced at the wooden ladder that went straight to the roof. A more crazy idea surged from the bottom of his heart.
One foot stepped up, the ladder involuntarily emitted a creaking sound. The Lone Wolf slowly lifted another foot and stepped on it again, this time the sound was much smaller. After calming down, the Lone Wolf climbed onto the rooftop step by step. Not far away, two snipers were shooting at distant targets with their backs to themselves. Seizing the opportunity, the Lone Wolf risked attracting the enemy's attention and fired a burst of shots at one of the snipers!
The splattered brain matter sprayed another sniper all over his body and face, before he could react, Zhan Lang shot him through the shoulder blade with a burst of gunfire. He threw away the rifle in his hand, pulled out the Jungle King from his back, and pounced on him!
The wound on his shoulder affected the sniper's movement, and with just a few slashes, the broad blade plunged into the sniper's other shoulder.
He drew out the blade, turned the hilt over and struck with force, knocking the sniper unconscious. The sniper was at least 175 cm tall, and Lang thought for a moment before stretching out his right hand to grasp the other's chin, using force to pull it upwards, and with a crisp sound, he dislocated the other's jawbone.
Seizing the sniper's legs, at least 140 pounds of sniper was lifted up by Can Lang's seemingly weak body. Hooking up the AUG under his feet, Can Lang quickly left the church.
Due to the attraction of the explosion and the influence of the war behind, the lone wolf narrowly escaped through "Stalingrad", just leaving the danger zone, the shadow that had arrived early ran over quickly without saying a word and took over the heavy load on the lone wolf's back.
"They're transferring immediately, they've found me!" At the reminder of Shadow, the Lone Wolf didn't have time to rest and hastily followed, running into a nearby dense rainforest.
Two people carrying the "tongue" quickly ran in the rainforest, and the vines and branches that came across their faces seemed to have no sensation at all, and did not slow down the speed of the two people at all.
After running for about two kilometers, the wolf finally stopped in a hidden small valley. The enemy's backyard is on fire, and it should not be able to chase here for the time being.
The shadow put down the sniper rifle on his back, "Who is he?"
"That command center didn't have any useful intel, I only managed to capture a sniper." Wolf answered, panting heavily.
As both of them were speaking in Chinese, the sniper who had woken up early could only stare blankly at the two young people in front of him.
He took another sip of water, and the residual wolf roughly pushed the sniper's jaw back into place with a stretch of his hand. "Name, origin, and everything you know about this island!" The cold voice of the residual wolf made even the shadows around him shudder.
The sniper seemed indifferent and just turned his head away from looking at the remaining wolves.
Not getting angry, Canis lupus carefully removed the leeches that had fallen on his body while crossing the rainforest earlier, and then gently placed them on the sniper's shoulder wound under the latter's fearful gaze. The leeches, smelling the blood, wriggled their dry bodies and inserted their suction cup-like mouths into the wound. Shadow also started to remove the leeches from his body, but due to his lack of experience in jungle warfare, he couldn't pull out the slippery leeches. Canis lupus handed him a lighter, and the yellow flame only swept across the leeches' bodies, causing the disgusting little insects to fall off. Imitating Canis lupus's actions, Shadow threw the fallen leeches onto the sniper's face.
In just a short while, more than ten tiny vampires were hanging on the sniper's face like grapes. These little bugs weren't lethal, but the fear they brought was beyond any threat.
"I'm telling you, I'll tell you everything, just get rid of these disgusting guys quickly!" The sniper finally collapsed.
"Let's just say you won't die anytime soon." The Lone Wolf replied indifferently.
"I am Thompson! I'm a new recruit of the Water Ghost Mercenary Corps! This small island is a training camp for new recruits from 15 major mercenary corps, and every year new recruits are sent here to be stationed on various battlefields. A year later, surviving new recruits will be selected by each major mercenary corps, and you're just our training tools, of course that's relative! Every year, large numbers of people come here to engage in life-and-death battles with the new recruits of each major mercenary corps! I've only been on this battlefield, I really don't know about the others! Please get these disgusting things away from me! They're going to burrow into my body!"
Ignoring Thompson's plea, the remaining wolves were shocked and thought that the person who came up with this method was a genius! Not only could it help train new soldiers for themselves, but the high tuition fees of 100 people per year were more than enough to train these new soldiers.
"When did this training start to appear? How many people can survive and leave every year?" The Lone Wolf asked while cleaning the leeches off Thompson's face.
"I'm not entirely sure, but our captain said it's been around since the 1980s. About 400 people manage to get through our blockade every year." Tomson replied quickly as he saw the wolf cleaning insects off its face.
"400? Isn't it only a hundred people who participate each year?" The shadow beside him asked, and the remaining wolf also stopped the lighter in his hand, waiting for Tomson's explanation.
"Oh! Please don't stop! I'm saying that 100 people are just the number of people who board the island in each batch, and almost every month there are 100 people boarding the small island. However, a month's time is enough for the previous batch to leave the login point far away, so it's impossible for two batches of people to meet!"
The lone wolf glanced at the shadow beside him, who was deep in thought, and with a swift motion, his military knife severed Tomson's carotid artery. The sudden gush of blood startled the shadow, "Can you give me some warning next time?" the shadow complained, wiping away the fresh blood on his face.
