Chapter 5: Promoted to Deputy Regiment Commander

Chapter 005: Promoted to Deputy Captain

At 5:00 pm on October 16, 1924, after learning of Chen Lianbo's death, Li Songzhuo and others, as representatives of the Merchant Corps, went to Chiang Kai-shek's command post to request a ceasefire.

Chiang Kai-shek sat behind the desk, proudly looking around with a satisfied expression, sizing up the peacemakers, and couldn't help but laugh: "At the beginning of the school, none of you looked down on the student army, how about now?"

The attendants also burst out laughing, the envoy sat wearily on the long bench, licking his lips and muttering: "Unexpected, unexpected..."

Chiang Kai-shek stood up, pacing back and forth excitedly in the damp, cavernous room. Suddenly he suppressed his smile and let out a monotonous high-pitched whine:

"The merchant troops must be completely disarmed before other issues can be discussed."

Li Songshao and a few others whispered to each other, exchanged glances, looked at the dimly setting sun, nodded, indicating their willingness to surrender and atone for their crimes.

Chiang Kai-shek immediately ordered the Huangpu student troops to cease fighting and assist the government in handling post-war issues.

Night falls, the bright moon hangs high in the cloudless sky like a silver plate, and the cold moonlight shines on the river water, making it sparkle.

Sun Xinghua has received the order. Chiang Kai-shek, in order to reward Sun Xinghua's performance in this battle, specially asked Sun Yat-sen and decided to appoint Sun Xinghua as deputy commander of the Huangpu Training Brigade, with the rank still being colonel.

"Master, I was worried to death when you participated in the battle this time. Unfortunately, I couldn't be by your side to protect you." On the ship, Huangpu first-term student Sun Guangping said with a worried face.

Sun Guangping is a servant who grew up with Sun Xinghua since childhood, taking care of Sun Xinghua's life for a long time. However, due to the strictness of Japanese and German schools, Sun Guangping was unable to enter school. This time, Sun Xinghua went to Huangpu as an instructor, while Sun Guangping entered Huangpu's first phase of study and achieved good results. The only drawback is that his ideological awareness needs to be improved.

"Guangping, everything about you is fine, except for this one thing. Instructor Sun has said it many times before, after you enlisted in Huangpu, from now on, you only have a teacher-student relationship and a comrade-in-arms relationship." A nearby Huangpu student, Hu Wei, said with a serious face.

Since Sun Xinghua received the appointment, he set out to return to Huangpu Island. A group of students from Huangpu also returned with him, responsible for transporting some weapons and ammunition. Chiang Kai-shek was preparing to establish the third battalion of the Training Regiment, and Sun Xinghua's task was to discuss with Battalion Commander He Yingqin how to assign the first batch of students to serve as officers in the Training Regiment.

"Guangping, I'm telling you for the last time. From now on, we are no longer master and servant, but fellow students of Huangpu and comrades in revolution. If you still call me 'young master' in the future, I won't bother with you anymore." Sun Xinghua said solemnly.

"Yes, sir..." Sun Guangping reluctantly replied.

Xun Xinghua's face broke into a smile as he gazed at Huangpu Island in the distance, his heart growing excited.

Whampoa Island, Whampoa Military Academy, China's modern history was almost changed because of this military school. Whether it is the Kuomintang or other generals, most of them came from this military school.

During the War of Resistance, Huangpu system teachers and students were even more prominent, fighting on the front lines.

It was already 10 o'clock in the evening when they landed, and after directing the student soldiers to transport weapons and ammunition off the ship, it was already midnight.

The military school gate faces south to north, facing the Pearl River. On the lintel of the gate is a horizontal plaque with white background and black characters "Army Officer School". On both sides are couplets: "Rise to high rank and wealth, please go elsewhere", "Fear death and greed for life, do not enter this door".

There were two sentry posts at the entrance and the two rooms behind them served as guardrooms.

After Sun Xinghua showed his ID, he led the students inside.

After entering the gate, students went to the dormitory building one after another.

Inside the main gate, there is a building called the school headquarters. The school headquarters is a Lingnan-style quadrangle building with two layers of brick and wood structure, three roads and four advances, namely three main passages and four rows of houses.

Sun Xinghua was just looking for a dormitory for instructors when a soldier in gray uniform, who didn't look very good, walked over from the opposite side.

"Fu Guo, you've come just in time. I have something to discuss with you." The soldier called out and walked towards the inside.

Sun Xinghua followed behind the soldier, who was none other than He Yingqin, also known as "He Popo", currently serving as Major General and Chief Instructor of Tactics at the Whampoa Military Academy, concurrently holding the position of Commander of the Whampoa Instructional Corps.

Whether from the military school or the teaching group, He Yingqin was always Sun Xinghua's direct superior.

"Assistant Country, the third batch of students have already enrolled, and the first batch is about to graduate. The principal wants to set up the third battalion of the teaching team again, and I'm a bit overwhelmed with work. I'd like to ask the principal if you can temporarily take charge of training the teaching team's troops, while I focus on the school's education." He Yinquan brought Sun Xinghua into his office and directly stated the issue.

Sun Xinghua was stunned for a moment, He Yingqin was indeed very clever. These students would become the future talents of the KMT and the Communist Party. Building good relationships with them now would be more useful than training an entire regiment of officers and soldiers.

However, He Yingqin was after all Sun Xinghua's superior and Sun Xinghua could not refuse him. Moreover, the establishment of the training group had just begun and it was indeed necessary to train well, otherwise the upcoming first Eastern Expedition to quell the Yang Liu rebellion, the second Eastern Expedition and the Southern Expedition would all require the training group to take on a major role.

  "Yes." Sun Xinghua replied.

He Yingqin nodded and let Sun Xinghua leave.

After Xinghua Sun came out, relying on memory to find the dormitory, Xinghua Sun lay on the bed and fell asleep directly.

But Sun Xinghua felt he hadn't slept for a while when the bugle started blowing.

This is the reveille of Whampoa Military Academy, which blows at 5 o'clock every day, followed by morning exercises for all teachers and students.

Although some student soldiers participated in the battle in Guangzhou, the students of the second and third phases were still doing morning exercises. Within ten minutes, the instructor responsible for checking the beds appeared.

This was Chiang Kai-shek's order, and all students and teachers in the school had to attend morning exercises unless there were special circumstances.

Sun Xinghua quickly tidied up his clothes and ran out towards the outside.

After the morning exercise, the students of the second and third periods went to class, while Sun Xinghua led instructors Wang Jun and Huangpu first period student Cai Guangju to the office to discuss matters such as the establishment of the Third Battalion.

"The troops adopt the three-three system, your battalion has three infantry companies under its jurisdiction. As for the position of company commander, it will naturally be appointed by the higher-ups. As for the platoon leader, you can choose an outstanding student from the first batch to take on the role. The party representative can also be selected from among the students of the first batch." Sun Xinghua sat in his chair, looking at Wang Jun and saying.

Wang Jun and others then recorded all of what Sun Xinghua said, occasionally putting forward their own opinions.

It wasn't until the afternoon that Wang Jun and others finally got up to leave. Although Sun Xinghua had only been in contact with them for a short time, he could feel that they had put their hearts and souls into this soon-to-be-formed unit.
