Chapter 12: A Trip to America

Chapter Twelve: My Journey to America

To ease the tension between Taiwan and the US due to the Diaoyu Islands incident, Chiang Ching-kuo, then Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan, visited the US for ten days at the invitation of US Secretary of State Rogers to seek economic aid from the US government for the Nationalist Government.

This time in the United States, due to safety considerations, Lin Feng decided to follow Chiang Ching-kuo on his trip. History had witnessed the assassination attempt of Chiang Ching-kuo by Taiwanese independence activists. Although the security measures in the US were comprehensive, sometimes it was still not as reassuring as having one's own people around.

For this trip to the United States, Lin Feng was also fully armed. He found many equipment from the super battleship warehouse. The most important thing is the nano bulletproof vest, which can not only protect against direct shooting of light weapons and shrapnel of heavy artillery shells, but also resist general medium and low energy laser guns.

Others are small devices, such as digital binoculars that resemble sunglasses, which can be adjusted for distance through a micro-slider on the frame and can also perform thermal imaging scans; multi-functional military handguns that can fire ordinary bullets and become laser guns at critical moments. Lin Feng also prepared a bulletproof vest for Chiang Ching-kuo.

On July 1, 1970, Chiang Ching-kuo, the Vice Premier of the Republic of China, boarded a plane bound for the United States with Foreign Minister Wei Tao-ming, Finance Minister Li Kuo-tien and his special assistant and bodyguard Lin Feng. Little did Chiang know that his arrival would send some people into a frenzy, who vowed to give him a "special" welcome.

The US government also attaches great importance to Chiang Ching-kuo's visit, hoping to eliminate mutual misunderstandings through this meeting. After all, as an important part of the First Island Chain, Taiwan is not a place where the United States wants to see entities beyond its control emerge.

Of course, there are also many who believe that Chiang Ching-kuo's visit to the United States is for the purpose of seeking support in order to smoothly take over two years later. Lin Feng does not know why Chiang Ching-kuo visited the United States historically, but as a member of Chiang Ching-kuo's visiting delegation to the US, he knows that Chiang Ching-kuo's visit to the US is absolutely not for seeking support. With the strength of the Chiang father and son in Taiwan, as long as Lin Feng does not oppose it, Chiang Ching-kuo's takeover two years later is a certainty, and there is no need for American support at all.

Of course, this visit to the United States indeed requires seeking economic assistance from the US. Taiwan's economic plans have been launched and the Ten Major Construction Projects are underway, which cannot be accomplished solely with Taiwan's financial resources. Therefore, one of the purposes of this trip is to obtain US economic aid.

Andrews Air Force Base in the suburbs of Washington, USA. In order to ensure Chiang Ching-kuo's safety, the US government cancelled the original plan to use a public airport and instead allowed Chiang's special plane to land at an American military base.

Andrews Air Force Base US Secretary of State Rogers personally came to greet Chiang Ching-kuo and his party. Seeing Chiang Ching-kuo walking down the plane, Rogers walked towards him with a smile on his face, "Mr. Chiang, welcome you to come, the President has been waiting for you at the White House for a long time, let's go to the White House now."

Chiang Ching-kuo first introduced his entourage and then boarded a U.S. government car to head for the White House.

In a mansion in the suburbs of Washington, Huang Wen-xiong and Zheng Zhi-cai were anxiously planning an assassination plot against Chiang Ching-kuo. Both were members of the Taiwan Alliance.

In recent years, due to the high-pressure rule of Chiang's father and son on Taiwanese independence activists, a large number of Taiwanese independence activists went overseas to develop, with Japan as their main base. In the late 1960s, they gradually moved to the United States for development. In fact, both the United States and Japan secretly supported the development of Taiwan independence forces.

Huang Wen-xiong and Zheng Zhi-chao decided to assassinate Chiang Ching-kuo, using this action to express the voice of a small group of people to the international community. Because they had both learned how to use handguns when they were in the military, they bought two or three handguns and went up into the mountains to practice.

Lai Wen-hsiung suggested drawing lots to decide who would fire the shot, but Huang Wen-hsiung declined, saying he would do it himself. Because Huang thought that among the four of them, he was the only one who was unmarried and had fewer family burdens, so he volunteered to take responsibility for firing the shot.

As Chiang Ching-kuo arrived in the United States, the political atmosphere gradually became tense. When Chiang Ching-kuo and Lin Feng's entourage were about to arrive at the White House, 60 Taiwanese-American alliance members suddenly held up signs reading "We are Taiwan" and "Taiwan wants self-determination and freedom", and chanted slogans.

Chiang Ching-kuo's face didn't look good, while his companion, Roggis, smiled and said: "They're not breaking any US laws, these are all allowed in the US, the police have no right to interfere with them." Lin Feng's mouth curled up slightly, a cold glint flashed across his eyes as he gazed out the window at the people outside, looking at them as if they were dead.

The shouting outside the car grew fainter and farther away, Chiang Ching-kuo and Lin Feng's entourage entered the White House in the United States. As for the US President Nixon they were about to meet, Lin Feng didn't have a good impression of him either, or rather, he didn't have a good impression of every American international capitalist, because all US presidents served them.

The meeting with Nixon had nothing to talk about, both sides exchanged polite greetings, then Nixon invited Chiang Ching-kuo to attend a welcoming banquet at his estate, Chiang Ching-kuo happily accepted his invitation, and then left the White House for the hotel where he was staying.

The next day, Chiang Ching-kuo, who had attended the banquet, went to the US Congress to meet with the President of the Senate. Around noon, Chiang Ching-kuo stepped up onto the stone steps under the protection of American police and his entourage. In order to ensure Chiang's safety, Lin Feng also followed him as he walked towards the revolving door of the restaurant.

At that moment, Huang Wenxiong, then a Ph.D. student at Cornell University, suddenly ran out of the procession and rushed towards Chiang Ching-kuo, shouting: "We are Taiwanese, here to settle our blood feud!"

When Huang Wen-xiong drew his gun, a quick-witted American security personnel swiftly raised Huang's gun hand from below, causing the bullet to fly over Chiang Ching-kuo's head by about 20 centimeters and hit the revolving door of the restaurant instead.

Lin Feng was extremely calm at this time, and he quickly protected Chiang Ching-kuo as they retreated back to the restaurant. He then handed him over to other bodyguards before rushing out of the door. The would-be assassin, Huang Wen-hsiung, was subdued on the spot. As Huang lay pinned to the ground, he shouted: "Let me stand up like a Taiwanese!"

At this time, another person rushed up from the side, who was Zheng Zicai. He saw the situation and came forward to rescue Huang Wenxiong. At this time, Lin Feng had already rushed out of the restaurant. When he saw another sneak attacker appear, he went straight up without saying a word and kicked him to the ground. Then he took out his pistol and said: "Are you from the Taiwan League? Is it Huang Wenxiong or Zheng Zicai?"

Zheng Zicai's face was twisted in agony as he shouted: "I am Zheng Zicai, long live Taiwan!" Lin Feng's eyes flashed with a cold light, and his finger pressed down. A loud "bang" was heard, and Zheng Zicai died instantly from a gunshot wound to the forehead, his brains and blood splattering everywhere.

Moreover, this shot thoroughly stunned the people in the parade, especially those Taiwanese independence activists. He did not expect that these police really dared to open fire. After all, they had received notice beforehand that there would be no danger to life. Huang Wenxiong was also stunned, he didn't dare believe it was true, his own brother-in-law Zheng Zicai was shot dead like this.

Just as everyone was still in a daze, Lin Feng walked up to Huang Wenxiong and asked: "Are you the Taiwanese independence activist Huang Wenxiong? You can go down and meet your 'comrade' now. You don't have to feel lonely, soon I will send these traitors down to meet you." As he spoke, Lin Feng shot and killed Huang Wenxiong in his astonishment. This time, the bodyguards and protesters around them were thrown into chaos.

Lin Feng didn't even look at the dead Huang Wenxiong, turned around and prepared to leave. At this time, Paul, who was in charge of Chiang Ching-kuo's security on the US side, walked over and said seriously to Lin Feng: "Mr. Li, I'm sorry to tell you that you're in trouble, you're suspected of murder."

Lin Feng sneered and said, "I think Mr. Paul doesn't understand my duties. I am Mr. Chiang's bodyguard, and my duty is to ensure Mr. Chiang's safety. Now that he has been assassinated in your country, you don't go after the organizers, but instead want to arrest me? Don't you think you're being too naive? As for the two people I killed, they were the masterminds behind the assassination attempt on the Premier. For Mr. Chiang's safety, I eliminated them. What's wrong with that? Should I have let them continue their assassination attempts?" After finishing speaking, Lin Feng turned around and left.

In fact, Lin Feng's shooting of two Taiwanese-American leaders in the US caused a great stir among American Chinese, especially those Taiwanese-Americans who were advocating for Taiwan independence. Some were intimidated by the bloody violence of the Taiwanese government and quit these pro-independence organizations, but others became even more radicalized and became running dogs for Americans and Japanese, learning military skills under the training of US agents before sneaking back to Taiwan to carry out assassinations and riots, causing great harm to the people of Taiwan.

After the shooting incident, Chiang Ching-kuo cancelled his trip to the US Congress. Soon after, Nixon's security affairs assistant Kissinger came to visit him. In the conversation between Chiang and Kissinger, Kissinger expressed on the spot that Lin Feng's behavior was correct, and he also praised Lin Feng's bravery.

Time passed quickly, and Chiang Ching-kuo's visit to the United States soon came to an end. This visit did not achieve its expected goals. Firstly, the US government stopped military aid, meaning that in the future Taiwan would have to pay for its own weapons.

When Lin Feng heard the news, he understood that this was an American arms dealer who saw Taiwan's economy recovering and wanted to take a share. To be honest, Lin Feng really didn't think much of American stuff, but at present, Taiwan doesn't have its own complete military-industrial production system, so it has no choice but to import a batch of weapons from the United States.

Taiwan borrowed US dollars from the United States and used these loans to purchase weapons that the US was about to scrap, so Taiwan did not gain any benefits other than helping the US solve part of its unemployment problem and increase some wealth. Moreover, if it were not for Lin Feng's reasonable argument, the Americans would only agree to lend $100 million to buy weapons and equipment, and later reluctantly agreed to lend another $100 million to support Taiwan's economic development.

Lin Feng was clear in his mind that he was currently not capable, and could only watch as the Americans made money while being unable to do anything about it. Fortunately, he had borrowed a billion dollars, with which part of Taiwan's top ten construction plans for this year could be implemented smoothly. Once he gained more power, he would settle accounts with the Americans properly. Moreover, most of these weapons were air force equipment requested by Lin Feng himself. As the banquet was about to end, a Western journalist approached Lin Feng and asked in Chinese: "Excuse me, Mr. Li, did you feel guilty after shooting and killing human rights activist Huang Wan-yong?"

Lin Feng revealed a smile and said: "For those die-hard elements who are always messing with Taiwan, the government must eliminate them physically and spiritually. Here, I want to warn those who are still messing with Taiwan that today's Huang Wenyi is tomorrow's you. If you don't stop now," Lin Feng used his left hand to support his right hand, making a gesture of holding a gun, pointing at the photographers and making a shooting motion, while also making a "pa" sound with his mouth.
