Chapter 4: Meeting Grandpa
In the afternoon, Zhang Lieyang drove to the outskirts of Ningbo City. Looking at the towering and ancient city wall, Zhang Lieyang couldn't help but stare blankly. Unintentionally, he recalled his grandfather telling him about Ningbo when he was a child. Just as Zhang Lieyang was lost in thought, a gatekeeper officer walked over and asked, "Where are you from?"
The officer's question suddenly brought Zhang Lieyang's thoughts back. Looking at the officer's fat and contented appearance, Zhang Lieyang took out twenty silver coins from his own pocket and quietly stuffed them into the officer's hand, saying: "Officer, I'm from Nanyang. Can you tell me how to get to the mansion of Ningbo's richest merchant, Zhang Jingzhai, the president of Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce?"
The officer looked at the silver dollar in his hand, flipped it over and asked Zhang Lieyang with a flattering face: "I don't know what you are looking for from the Zhang family and Old Master Zhang?!"
"I'm a relative of the Zhang family, I've come all the way back from Nanyang to pay respects to Old Master Zhang!" Zhang Lieyang said with a smile.
Upon hearing Zhang Lieyang's words, the officer smiled and said: "Sorry, sorry! So you're a relative of the Zhang family? I'll have someone take you there right away!" The officer then called out to the soldiers guarding the city: "Second Fool, come quickly! Take this gentleman to Zhang Jingzai, Old Master Zhang's residence!"
"Yes!" The two fools saluted the officer and then said to Zhang Lieyang, "Sir, please follow me!" And jumped onto Zhang Lieyang's car.
Arriving at the entrance of Zhang's mansion, Zhang Lieyang took out a silver dollar from his pocket and handed it to the soldier who had led the way. The soldier took the silver dollar, blew on it, smiled and thanked him before leaving.
Zhang Lieyang walked quickly to the entrance of the Zhang family's house, knocked on the door. At this time, a steward came out and asked: "Is there anything I can help you with, sir?"
Zhang Lieyang hastily took off the True Dragon Jade from his neck and handed it to the butler, saying: "Please trouble you to give this jade to Mr. Zhang for a look, I'll wait at the door!"
The old steward took the jade pendant and looked at it, suddenly shocked, and rushed in hastily! The old steward ran to Mr. Zhang's study, panting, and said: "Old... sir, look what this is!"
Mr. Zhang, who was reading a book, put down the book in his hand and took over the real dragon jade handed over by the old housekeeper, looked at it for a moment, and asked excitedly: "This... where did this jade pendant come from?"
"It was a young man who had been taken from his own neck!" The old steward said with a quiver.
"Go, take me to see!" Old Master Zhang excitedly walked out of the study with quick steps.
Under the guidance of Butler Guan, Mr. Zhang arrived at the door and saw Zhang Lieyang come out. Old Guan immediately introduced: "Master, it's this young man!"
"Oh?" Old Master Zhang looked at Zhang Lieyang and said: "Child, I'm asking you, is this jade pendant yours?"
"It's mine! My father gave it to me, he told me to go back and see my family!" Zhang Lieyang said seriously.
Old Man Zhang saw Zhang Lieyang's dignified demeanor and said with satisfaction: "Child, I am your grandfather!"
Upon hearing the old man's words, Zhang Lieyang hastily knelt down on the ground and said: "Grandfather, your unfilial grandson has only now come to visit you!" As he spoke, Zhang Lieyang heavily kowtowed three times.
"Good boy, get up!" Zhang Lao Taiye said as he helped Zhang Lieyang up. Then he told the old housekeeper, "You quickly go tell Madame that Qi Yue's son is back, then you go notify everyone else to come back for dinner tonight!"
"Alright, old master!" As soon as the butler turned around, Zhang old master called out to him and said: "Also have someone clean up a small courtyard!"
"Grandpa, can I drive my car in?" Zhang Lieyang asked.
"Of course!" Old Man Zhang said indulgently.
"Then can I drive the car in first?" Old Man Zhang nodded.
After the car drove in, Zhang Lieyang called six servants to carry the gold on the car. He himself carried a suitcase and supported Zhang Lao Taizi to the study.
The servants put down their things and withdrew from the study. Old Master Zhang looked at Zhang Lieyang and said, "Child, what's your name? How old are you? Is your father doing well now?"
"Grandfather, my father named me Zhang Lieyang, and I'm 19 years old this year. My father is doing well now. Besides me, I have a younger brother and sister! My father asked me to bring him to apologize to you. He said it was all his fault for not understanding things when he was young!" As Zhang Lieyang spoke, he knelt down on the ground and kowtowed three more times to Old Master Zhang. Seeing his own grandson, Old Master Zhang's anger from many years ago had long since dissipated.
Zhang Lieyang got up and smiled at Old Man Zhang, saying: "Grandfather, the road is long and I didn't bring much!" As he opened three boxes, he said: "Grandfather, there are 3,000 gold bars in here. This is our filial piety to you!"
