Chapter 3: The Mysterious Ring
All around were dilapidated houses, and occasionally a few people in tattered clothes would walk by.
Dust was flying everywhere, and the withered grass nearby seemed to prove that no one lived here.
This was the scene that Yang Junran saw at first glance. He simply didn't believe that this was where Fang Hanqin's First Division was stationed.
"Commander Yang, although the conditions are a bit simple, this place is very safe. The small county town not far from here has only one regiment of puppet troops guarding it. Normally they don't dare to provoke us, and even if we go in to buy something, they will turn a blind eye. The Chahar Garrison Army is either coordinating with the North China Japanese army or stationed at the border between Chahar and Outer Mongolia, defending against the old Soviets." Fang Hanchin smiled as he introduced the situation here.
Yang Junran looked at the sky, and the surroundings had gradually darkened. Although he wanted to understand the situation here, his body's fatigue came again, as if he was about to rest on the ground, he didn't know why he had this feeling, but still decided to rest for a while.
"Commander Yang, you've also had a tiring day, why don't you take a rest first? If there's anything to discuss, we can talk about it tomorrow." Fang Hanchen seemed to have noticed Yang Junran's fatigue and said with a smile.
Yang Jun Rang liked this young lieutenant colonel very much. Having such a subordinate is probably what every leader hopes for.
Even decades later, no one will care about a subordinate's ability, but only whether the subordinate is considerate.
Under the lead of a soldier, Yang Junran came into a relatively clean house.
Lying hastily on the straw, Yang Junran quickly fell asleep.
While outside, Fang Hanchen and others were holding a meeting.
They were suspicious of Yang Junran's identity, but they had no evidence at all.
Especially Yang Junran's body still has the letter of appointment delegated above.
"Deputy captain, I don't think he's a Japanese spy. Otherwise, he wouldn't have shot at the Japanese." Ji Quan spoke quickly and directly, expressing his own opinion.
A young man with glasses, who looked very elegant, said: "Deputy Captain, we have to be careful about this matter. Why did all the brothers die and only he is still alive, and not even injured? You also understand the current situation. If there's a slight mistake, the lives of our brothers will be lost here."
"What the second lieutenant said makes sense. Let's observe for a while before speaking, even if we have to apologize to our brothers in the end, but we can't afford to make any mistakes." Fang Hanqin looked at the young man who spoke and said to everyone.
"I think Ji Quan is right, this Yang Shuai is not a spy. Can't we just suspect him because he's alive? His skills are obvious to everyone, I think Yun Qiao is being too paranoid." A man with a small knife scar on his forehead said, his face still looking dignified despite the scar.
Fang Hanqin took a look at him, this person Fang Hanqin was still very familiar with. At the age of 16, he participated in the "January 28" Shanghai War and the small knife scar on his forehead was also left during that battle. Later, when the Central Army surrounded and annihilated the 19th Route Army in Fujian, he defected to Fang's side and served as the third company commander, named Liang Fei.
Fang Hanchen furrowed his brow as he glanced at Yang Junran inside.
"It's settled then, being cautious in everything isn't a big mistake. Quickly replenish the ammunition to each company and also supplement the grenade launchers to the machine gun companies." Fang Hanqin ended everyone's argument and issued the final order.
Liang Fei and Ji Quan exchanged a glance, let out a helpless sigh, and walked back to their respective camps.
Yun Qiao Han looked at Yang Jun Ruo inside and hesitated for a moment.
Although he didn't know if this person was a real spy, Yunqiao Han had great admiration for his skills.
The outside has returned to calmness, and all around is quiet.
Yang Junran was asleep, but he heard every word outside clearly in his ears.
In his subconscious mind, he kept sorting out all the things that happened today.
Although he didn't dare to believe it, at this moment he had confirmed that he had traveled through time and space to the Republic of China.
Suddenly, those eight big characters appeared in Yang Junran's mind again, and the colonel's smile was among those eight big characters.
"Who are you and why did this happen?" Yang Junran's loud inquiry was met with no response.
The ring reappeared, and the white ring seemed to have a strange power.
A shotgun appeared in Yang Junran's line of sight. When it passed through the white ring, the shotgun turned into two shotguns.
Yang Junran suddenly understood what Ji Quan had said today - why there was only one Japanese army corps' corpse, but two corps' worth of Japanese equipment.
It's all because of this ring on my hand, and that colonel who looks just like me is probably the owner of this ring.
"Everything is a mission."
Suddenly a voice reached Yang Junran's ears, which made Yang Junran very frightened.
The sound has faded away, and all the scenes in my mind have disappeared.
Yang Junran wanted to get up, but found himself unable to feel anything anymore.
"Commander Yang, are you alright?"
"Commander Yang, wake up."
Hearing Fang Hanqin's voice, Yang Junran slowly opened his eyes.
She was already lying on the ground, and her left hand had grasped the middle finger of her right hand, trying to get the ring off.
"I'm fine, you guys wait for me for a moment, I'll be right back." Yang Junran said with a smile to Han Qin and the others, hastily adjusting his military uniform.
After a while, Yang Junran finally came out.
On the table was a small map, and Fang Hanchen and others were waiting around for Yang Junran.
"Commander Yang, the second and third brigades will arrive soon. Please make arrangements for them. Once they arrive, how should we deploy our defenses?" Fang Hanchen hastily saluted and said as he saw Yang Junran walk out.
Yang Junran walked up to the map and looked at it carefully.
Now there are several villages near the village where they live, and the county town is among these villages.
Yang Junran knew that with their current military strength, attacking the county town would undoubtedly be a suicidal move.
Only after waiting for one's own strength to expand can one attack the county town and establish one's own base.
"Yesterday we captured how many weapons." Yang Junran raised his head and said to Fang Hanchen beside him.
"162 Type 38 rifles, 110 South Manchurian pistols, 18 Type 11 light machine guns, 18 50mm grenade launchers, over 10,000 rounds of rifle ammunition, over 300 mini-grenades, over 1,000 rounds of pistol ammunition, and over 6,000 rounds of machine gun ammunition." Fang Hanqing answered without looking at any data.
Yang Junran was very satisfied, with such subordinates, he was quite at ease. Yang Junran believed that as long as they believed in themselves, these people would become his loyal subordinates. Although Yang Junran had a limited understanding of history, he knew that troops dispatched to serve as guerrilla forces were often not the central army's main force.
"Alright, after the other two detachments arrive, we will reorganize the entire unit. We need to occupy a village so that we can establish a complete base of operations. The conditions in Chahar are not good for the Japanese army, they won't deploy too many troops here, this is our opportunity." Yang Junran said, pointing at a village on the map.
From the map, he already knew that where he was located was Chahar Province of the Republic of China.
Although the location of the crossing is not suitable, it has already been occupied by the Japanese army and is sandwiched between the Japanese armies in Northeast China and North China. However, Yang Junran believed that as long as he relied on the ring to replicate more weapons, he might be able to counter the Japanese army.
"All right, I'll send someone to receive the other two brigades immediately." Fang Hanchen saluted Yang Junran and walked out towards the outside.
The rest of the people saluted and followed Fang Hanqin out.
Yang Junran knew they still didn't trust him, otherwise they wouldn't have deployed people to follow him behind his back.
Yang Junran was very happy when he saw his two revolvers on the table.
He decided to first replicate a few thousand of his revolvers so that each man in his unit would have a handgun.
Looking at the shotgun, Yang Junran wanted to take off the ring, but no matter how hard he tried, the ring couldn't be taken off.
Yang Junran, who was at a loss, could only place his right hand on the shotgun.
However, after a long time, the shotgun has not changed at all.
Two shotguns lay quietly on the table, motionless and at Yang Junran's disposal.
Until an hour later, Yang Junran had tried various postures, but the shotgun still hadn't changed.
"What a broken toy! Not even a manual is provided, who knows how to use it?" Yang Junran shouted loudly at the ring in frustration.
The ring didn't react at all, but the guards outside came in instead.
"Commander Yang, what's wrong? Is there something going on?" The guard said to Yang Junran.
Yang Junran shook his head and looked outside, saying: "I'm fine, you can go down."
The guard nodded and walked out towards the outside.
Yang Junran, however, saw the Type 81 rifle on the guard's body. For such a famous gun, Yang Junran naturally wanted to take a good look at it.
"Wait, leave the rifle behind." Yang Junran said to the guard.
The guard's mouth was agape, staring at Yang Junran in surprise, unsure of the officer's intention.
"Let me see, I'll give it back to you later." Yang Junran said to the guard.
The guard nodded in confusion, put his rifle on the table, and then walked out towards the outside.
The Zhongzheng rifle is in no way inferior to the Japanese Type 38 rifle, and its lethality is much stronger than that of the Type 38 rifle.
The white ring seemed to have reacted, and in a short while, the Zhongzheng rifle on the table had turned into two.
Yang Junran looked at the scene in front of him with surprise, wanting to try it out, but it took a long time.
The two Zhongzheng rifles on the table remained unchanged.
Yang Junran looked at the shotgun not far away and then glanced at the Zhongzheng rifle on the table, seeming to understand how the ring worked.
