Chapter 15 We Have Arrived
In the pitch-black deep night, everywhere has already fallen silent.
Yang Junran has led his troops to the mountainous area, but Yang Junran did not dare to act arbitrarily and ordered his troops to conduct reconnaissance.
Yang Junran sat on the cold ground, waiting for the report from the scouting party in front.
Yang Junran's current task is to utilize his own advantages and minimize casualties in order to annihilate the Japanese army.
The distant howitzer battalion and machine gun battalion also rushed over, which made Yang Junran feel at ease.
"Commander, we've spotted a Japanese army unit ahead. There are over 200 of them, but they're all injured and being escorted by a small team. It looks like the Japanese have taken a beating." The second battalion commander of the Second Brigade, Jin Mingcheng, ran over to report to Yang Junran.
Such a good opportunity and Yang Junran didn't seize it, his brain must be out of order.
"Quickly, hide and wait for my command." Yang Junran swiftly gave the order.
The warriors around quickly hid, and the ten light and heavy machine guns of the machine gun battalion were quickly set up.
The ten mortars of the mortar battalion, however, quickly built a simple artillery position behind the machine gun positions, waiting for Yang Junran's order.
The sound of footsteps in the distance can already be heard, and some new recruits are getting nervous.
Yang Junran held his own semi-formal rifle, constantly searching for the silhouette of the Japanese army.
Some of the seriously wounded Japanese soldiers lay on the carts, while the mules in front slowly pulled the entire cart.
The entire troop occasionally emitted painful groans, while the escort squad was vigilantly gazing around.
The Japanese troops had entered the ambush circle, and the light machine guns were quietly aimed at the Japanese troops.
Bang! Someone had already started firing.
With this shot, the whole ambushing troops started firing.
Heavy machine guns kept firing at the Japanese army, and light machine guns became a deadly killer for the Japanese army.
These Japanese officers and soldiers were completely unguarded and were suddenly killed by more than a hundred people.
The escorted Japanese squad began to counterattack, and the light mortar shells also started hitting the firepower point.
Yang Junran took a quick glance and swiftly pulled the trigger.
A grenadier in sight had fallen to the ground.
The sound of gunfire continued, and the 41 light and heavy machine guns of the Second Brigade kept firing. The Japanese army had obviously become the prey of the Second Brigade.
"Damn it, can't even get a mouthful of soup, stop fighting!" The regiment commander of the guerrilla force's machine gun battalion shouted loudly.
Due to the machine gun company's late arrival, his shooting position wasn't very good.
Most of the Japanese troops had become the prey of the two brigades, and the machine gun battalion could not even find an opportunity to drink soup.
"They're all dead, stop wasting bullets!" someone shouted loudly.
The gunfire around slowly stopped, and some old soldiers rushed over quickly.
But most of the new recruits just stood there, breathing heavily in the air, their bodies trembling non-stop.
More than a dozen Japanese soldiers who were still struggling were killed by the bayonets of the old soldiers, and Yang Junran also walked over with his rifle.
"A total of two hundred and sixty-three people, all killed in action." Jin Mingcheng said with a hint of pride as he looked at Yang Junran.
"Don't be too happy, if they were so easy to defeat, how could they have occupied our lands? These are all wounded soldiers, and after fighting for half a day, aren't you ashamed?" Yang Junran looked around at the triumphant soldiers and shouted loudly.
He knew that many warriors were proud now, especially those new recruits.
The result of underestimating one's enemy is being killed by them.
Looking at the bloodstains on the ground, Yang Junran said to Jin Mingcheng: "Quickly sweep the battlefield."
Jin Mingcheng began ordering his troops to clean up the battlefield with a displeased face, while Yang Junran walked forward.
In the village, Sen no Rikyu looked out at the gunfire with a puzzled expression.
His troops have all been stationed in the village and there is no one on guard outside.
The only ones who could engage in combat were those wounded soldiers transported to the county town, they had no fighting capacity and only a small team of escorts.
"Commander of the united troops, shouldn't we send reinforcements to check out the situation outside?" The staff officer asked after hearing the gunfire stop.
"Sen'yū shook his head and said to his staff officer: 'Order the troops to prepare for battle, in case of a surprise attack by the Chinese.'"
The adjutant saw the regimental commander say so and naturally would not disobey his order, quickly walking out.
In the female soldiers' artillery position, eight Bofors infantry guns were ready for firing.
But the female soldiers did not fire and instead waited for the results of the reconnaissance.
Since the sound of gunfire came from outside, Meng Yumei quickly led people to investigate outside.
"Sister, I wonder if it's their people who have come. These people are really cunning, knowing that the Japanese army and we are almost done fighting, they take advantage of the situation to gain an advantage, and also get a favor from someone. I said so, that little white face looks quite honest, but must be full of evil intentions." Chen Qiaoru said to Zhou Yulan, looking at the village in the distance.
Zhou Yulan furrowed her brow and looked at the artillery beside her without saying a word.
Half an hour had passed and Meng Yumei still hadn't returned, which made Zhou Yulan somewhat anxious.
"Don't wait for her anymore, fire." Zhou Yulan looked at the village in the distance and gave orders to the artillerymen.
Following Zhou Yulan's order, the eight Bohai Fort infantry guns began firing.
Shell after shell accurately pounded into the village, and for a time the village was plunged into a barrage of artillery fire.
They didn't have any expression, even if the village was destroyed it could be rebuilt, but these Japanese people, if they weren't beaten to death, everyone knew the consequences.
Recalling their past experiences, the female soldiers became even more enraged and continued firing artillery shells.
The village was soon engulfed in a sea of flames.
Senya Kanzaki looked at the flames all around and quickly gave a retreat order.
Japanese officers and soldiers began to abandon some unimportant things and move towards the village.
The flames within the village are getting bigger and bigger, many houses have already caught fire.
If Yang Jun Ruo were here, he would definitely be very regretful.
Even now, Yang Junran's distant flame is starting to become displeased.
"These Japanese troops are too much, they even set fire to the houses. Fighting is just fighting, what does it have to do with ordinary people? One day I'll fight my way to Japan and burn down your imperial palace." Yang Junran said discontentedly as he looked at the flames in the distance, thinking that the Japanese army had set the fire.
Jin Mingcheng smiled awkwardly, thinking that the whole of China was still being invaded by those little Japanese devils, and yet this Commander Yang in front of him was thinking about taking the fight to Japan, burning down their imperial palace. If it weren't for the fact that Yang Junran's military rank was higher than Jin Mingcheng's, or if one of Jin Mingcheng's subordinates had said something like that, Jin Mingcheng would have kicked them down a long time ago.
"Halt, who goes there?" A warning voice came from a short distance ahead.
At the sound of the voice, the entire second squad quickly became vigilant, machine guns swiftly aiming at the front, fearing any unexpected events.
"Are you Commander Yang's troops? Where is Commander Yang?" A slightly displeased female voice rang out.
Yang Junran knew it was Zhou Yulan's person and hurriedly walked forward.
Meng Yumei saw Yang Junran walking over and said with some relief: "You've arrived."
"We're here, how could we not come?" Yang Junran walked over and said with a smile.
"The Japanese army has more than 2,000 people and is now in the village. However, they should have been driven away by Big Sister's artillery. What do you plan to do?" Meng Yumei said some of the situation about the Japanese army, wanting to hear Yang Junran's opinion.
"Let's get down to business, we're not familiar with the terrain inside either. Let's have a decisive battle, I've brought over 2,000 people this time, and there are many heavy weapons as well. If our two units work together, taking out this Japanese army shouldn't be a problem." Yang Junran said, gazing at Meng Yumei's perfect figure.
Meng Yumei glanced at Yang Junran's eyes, and was somewhat unaccustomed to it. She nodded awkwardly and walked back inside.
"What does it mean?" Yang Junran didn't understand Meng Yumei's meaning and asked in a hurry.
"I'll go back and report the situation here, see what Big Sister means, you guys don't act rashly, there are many traps inside." Meng Yumei said as she walked away, turning her head to say to Yang Junran.
After watching Meng Yumei leave, Yang Junran sat down on the ground without any politeness.
Wrapped in that tattered coat, Yang Junran unknowingly fell asleep.
The whole unit began to be on high alert, waiting for the scout's report.
"Commander, wake up."
"Commander Yang, the scout has returned."
Yang Junran was woken up while he was sleeping soundly.
"What's wrong, what's going on up ahead." Yang Junran was still somewhat unaccustomed to his current life, rubbed his eyes and asked.
Jin Ming's face was a dark line, this commander performed too poorly, at least he couldn't sleep like that, this is a battlefield, danger can appear at any time.
"We found the Japanese troops, but they were all inside the village. Two scouts fell into the trap, fortunately, the scouts were in good physical condition and nothing happened." Jin Mingcheng pointed to the mountain area and said to Yang Junran.
Yang Junran stood up, stretched his body and said: "Wait until tomorrow's attack, it seems that this time is an opportunity."
Jin Mingcheng's face was filled with confusion, unable to understand what Yang Junran meant.
"We'll dispatch a small unit tomorrow to lure the Japanese troops into pursuit, then set up an ambush and give them a good beating. With our firepower, it's no problem to wipe out several hundred of them. However, we need to coordinate with the female soldiers; only then will our chances of winning be greater. Now, with over two thousand Japanese troops, we don't have such a big appetite." Yang Junran was clear about his own strength and wouldn't take the risk of surrounding and annihilating the Japanese troops of over two thousand people.
Jin Ming nodded, although this commander had a lot of small flaws, but in terms of command, he was still quite good.
