Chapter 24: Poison Gas Bomb
Inside the county town, inside the military supply depot.
It's extremely chaotic here, except for a small number of Mongolian soldiers on guard, there is no one else.
After seeing the warriors arrive, the Mongolian army had already quietly cleared the way.
There is still so much grain inside, and no one dares to pay attention to it.
"My goodness, how can there be so much." Yang Junran looked at the food in front of him, extremely surprised.
The warriors didn't stand on ceremony and quickly loaded the grain onto the carts outside.
The Mongolian soldiers put down their guns and squatted on the ground in silence.
"Don't just stand there like fools, follow us to transport the grain." One of the battalion commander-like officers pointed at the Mongolian army and shouted loudly.
The Mongolian soldiers did not dare to have any opinions and quickly began to follow the warriors to transport grain.
Kang Lianqin had already walked over from afar. Yang Junran sat in the chair, looking at the scene in front of him, but didn't dare to imagine.
The garrison of Chahar is not large, otherwise there would not be the present situation.
The most important point is that the Japanese troops stationed as defenders were not the most elite forces. No country would put its most elite forces in a town to defend it, unless they had a problem with their brain.
"Commander Yang, come with me." said Kang Lianqin after saluting Yang Junran.
Yang Junran knew what Kang Lianqin was going to do and quickly followed behind him.
The arsenal was very dark inside, and several warriors began to light torches.
Open a dark door, inside may be a different kind of scenery.
"It's all like this setting." Yang Junran couldn't help but sigh.
Yang Junran sighed and walked towards the inside.
Inside it really looks like a different world, with hard walls all around and several oil lamps.
Several oil lamps were lit, and it gradually brightened up inside.
A box lay quietly on the ground not far in front of him, and there was still an obvious skull on top of the box.
Yang Junran quickly walked over and carefully examined it.
There is also an obvious skull and crossbones logo on the ammunition inside the box.
There were also several mortars on the side, which should be used as launchers.
"It should be a toxic gas bomb, all of them have been transported away, be careful." Yang Junran said to Kang Lianqin beside him.
Kang Lianqin nodded and waved his hand, and the warriors beside him quickly took action.
Yang Junran said to Kang Lianqin, "You personally arrange this matter, and carefully transport these things back. There must be no accidents."
Kang Lianqin nodded and walked out towards the outside.
Yang Junran carefully looked around and after making sure there was no discovery, he slowly walked outwards.
The warriors outside have begun to clear away some trivial things, and most of the grain has been loaded onto the large carts.
Dozens of transport trucks are fully loaded and waiting for the departure order.
"Old sir, what do you mean by this? This is absolutely unacceptable." Yang Junran said to the elderly man who was leading a group of villagers pushing a large number of transportation carts over from a distance.
The old man looked at Yang Junran in front of him, cupped his hands and said: "Commander Yang, no need to say more, we can still come up with this little thing."
Looking at the eyes of his fellow villagers, Yang Junran nodded.
Some transport teams' prisoners of war began to accept big carts from ordinary people.
"Captain of a troop, is there still a vast ocean over there?" Yang Junran would never take something that didn't belong to him from the common people.
Kang Lian carefully searched his military uniform and found less than ten dollars.
"Commander Yang, that's all there is. You wait here, I'll go to those traitors' homes and I'm sure we'll find plenty." Kang Lianqin said awkwardly, looking at Yang Junran.
Yang Junran nodded, but was stopped by the elderly person.
"Commander Yang, let's just drop it. We should show mercy when we can. Besides, Captain Kan has already given us a lot of goods. Consider this our small token of appreciation. Commander Yang, don't be too polite about it. After all, you are all soldiers, and supporting your fight against the Japanese is only natural." The old man spoke with an air of righteousness.
Yang Junran hesitated for a moment, nodded, and then led his troops back towards the county town.
For several days in a row, the surrounding counties were all looted.
Now Yang Junran's county is well-stocked with grain and supplies.
Whether it's food or money, Yang Junran doesn't have to worry about anything now.
In the county town, the sun has just risen.
Yang Junran yawned and walked out towards the outside.
The Mongolian army around now does not dare to provoke Yang Junran arbitrarily.
The surrounding landscape is good, more and more people are willing to come here to Yang Junran, and the guerrilla column of Yang Junran is getting bigger and bigger.
"Commander, the troops dispatched from the Second War Zone have arrived. There is a complete division of the Northeast Army, but I think their morale is very poor. Such troops will disperse at the slightest touch." Fang Hanqin walked over and said to Yang Junran.
Yang Junran furrowed his brow, and indeed had some small thoughts.
He was very clear about the Northeast Army. Since entering Guannei, these people have been like street rats, carrying the reputation of non-resistance army.
Especially after the general who did not resist was imprisoned, these people were even more divided.
Many troops were dispersed and often did not receive replenishment, but were directly allocated to various Central Army units.
The morale of the Northeast Army was low and had basically no morale at all.
"These Northeastern officers and soldiers, you come to settle down, the troop organization should not be disrupted, weapons and ammunition must be provided according to the equipment of a brigade, in addition, the supplemented soldiers, are allocated according to different branches, establish an instructional camp, by excellent officers and soldiers from each department to teach, must train out excellent officers and soldiers, only then can we exert our strong combat effectiveness." Yang Junran looked at Fang Hanqin and expressed his own thoughts.
Fang Hanqin nodded and walked out towards the outside.
Before long, Yang Junran began eating his breakfast.
Steamed buns and corn porridge, along with a few pickled vegetables, was probably not bad food for the domestic anti-Japanese war troops.
"Report, I am Colonel Xu Da of the Northeast Army, reporting for duty. Please instruct me, sir." Just then, a tall colonel walked over and saluted while Yang Junran was eating.
Yang Junran carefully observed the captain, who seemed to be around 27 or 28 years old, with thick eyebrows and big eyes, a typical northeastern man.
"Director Xu, come on in and let's talk." Yang Junran said enthusiastically as soon as he saw Xu Da.
Xu Da looked at Yang Junran's young appearance and became somewhat puzzled.
He didn't expect Yang Junran to be so young, nor did he expect himself to receive a warm welcome.
To know that after entering the country, they were almost tossed around like toys, and no one ever cared about their feelings.
Including myself, those under me are living almost like zombies.
"Director Xu, sit down and have a bite to eat. Now that you're here, it's just like being at your own home. I, Yang Junran, don't have any special talents, but when it comes to treating my comrades, I will never hide anything from them. As long as the comrades are sincere about resisting Japan, if they need weapons, I'll provide them with weapons; if they need soldiers, I'll do my best to find them soldiers. These are all things that don't need to be said. Right now our strength is still very small, but sooner or later we will have the ability to recover all of our lost territory." Yang Junran sat down and started eating his steamed bun, as if he were talking about something very ordinary.
Xu Da looked at this officer, but was somewhat perplexed. He didn't understand what the officer wanted to say or if he was trying to convey something to himself.
Go back to the old home in Northeast China and recover all the lost land, such a slogan Xu Da has shouted a lot, but it's really hard to do.
"You may think I'm joking, but sooner or later we will have the strength to counterattack in Northeast China. Your troops must boost their morale. I don't care about other places now that you're under my command. I hope you can recover your morale in the shortest time possible and become a combat-effective unit. We have plenty of food, all donated by ordinary people for our anti-Japanese army, and we will not support idle people." Yang Junran's expression suddenly changed as he sternly spoke to Xu Da beside him.
Xu Da looked at Yang Junran's gaze and suddenly felt a sense of guilt. He didn't know how to answer, at least the problem of morale wasn't something he could solve on his own.
"I know your difficulties, I will assist you in managing this unit. Don't worry, I won't disperse your troops or deprive you of your command. I will make your unit a trump card, and sooner or later, we will lead our troops back to their hometown in Northeast China, and let the people see that the Northeast Army is not an army that runs away." Yang Junran put down the food on the table and said seriously to Xu Da.
Xu Da looked at Yang Junran's young face and felt a sense of respect that he couldn't quite explain.
"General, rest assured that our Northeast Army is not a bunch of cowards. Sooner or later, we will fight back to our old home in the Northeast." Xu Da bowed respectfully and said seriously to Yang Junran.
Yang Junran patted Xu Da's shoulder and smiled with satisfaction.
"Commander, it's not good! A small group of Japanese troops has marched towards us, followed by a large number of Mongolian troops, as well as Japanese tanks, artillery and cavalry units. It seems the Japanese are targeting us. Chief of Staff Fang has already ordered all branch commanders to gather for a meeting. Please go there immediately." Staff officer Xia Ke hastily ran in from outside and said to Yang Junran.
Yang Junran's eyebrows furrowed, and he pulled Xu Da along, saying: "Let's go take a look. Since they dare to attack us, they must have made preparations."
Xu Da nodded and followed Yang Junran's back, walking towards a conference room on the side.
Perhaps due to the war situation, the guards around have become busy.
Machine guns that are usually invisible have been set up all around the headquarters, their black muzzles pointing forward.
Seeing the headquarters on high alert, the rest of the people also guessed a bit about the situation.
The originally bustling streets suddenly became much quieter.
