Chapter 10: Attacking the County Town
Inside the county town, there was only one company of Mongolian soldiers guarding it, with more than 100 people.
Since intense gunfire was heard from the village, these people sealed off the not-so-high city gate of the county town, fearing that something unexpected might happen here.
They didn't want to sacrifice themselves for the Japanese, but just thought of their own safety.
Moreover, since the sound of gunfire started in the village, some young people in the county town have become restless.
In the distance, the shadow of the Mongolian army had already appeared, which made the defenders feel a little more at ease.
These Mongol troops were mixed with Japanese, which made the defending commander hastily open the city gate to welcome these "triumphantly returning" Japanese masters.
Several sharp-eyed soldiers seemed to have discovered something, and the Japanese military uniforms were clearly stained with a lot of blood.
But thinking of the gunshot earlier, they also dispelled their doubts.
"Thanks for your hard work, there are flower girls inside." Pai Chang said with a smile as he walked up to a Japanese soldier.
The Japanese soldier didn't respond, but instead gave the squad leader a vicious glare.
Hai Long seemed to have sensed something and asked a Mongolian soldier following the Japanese army, "Which part are you from? Why are you here?"
The Mongolian soldier looked at the tall officer next to him with a puzzled expression and asked for his meaning.
The officer sneered at the squad leader, pulled out his own pistol and said: "Remember, I'm from the guerrilla column."
After finishing speaking, the handgun has already begun firing bullets.
The rest of the warriors began firing, and the Mongolian soldiers fell down under the gunpoint.
Yang Junran rushed over and said to the officer, "Han Qin, you immediately lead people to search for the arsenal, search for the Japanese army's weapons and ammunition. At the same time, for the remaining Mongolian troops in the county seat, those who resist must be shot on the spot. Call on the people to expose Han traitors, and act quickly."
Fang Hanjin took off his Mongolian military uniform and threw it on the ground, quickly ordering his troops to enter the city.
Yang Junran didn't idle either, quickly leading his men in a charge into the county town.
The remaining Mongolian officers and soldiers laid down their arms, most of whom were Hans who would not die for the devils.
In fact, many of the pseudo-army's combat effectiveness is not strong at all, compared to the Japanese army's combat effectiveness, it's simply heaven and earth.
The fake army is a representative of tofu dregs, and this battle made Yang Junran deeply feel it.
The sky had gradually brightened, and Yang Junran knew his time was running out.
Several hours of busy work still have gains, and many weapons and ammunition were collected.
There are many military warehouses here, but the main weapons are artillery and light and heavy machine guns.
It's possible that the Japanese army knew that the Soviets in Outer Mongolia were not their match, so they deliberately left behind heavy weapons to defend this place.
What troubled Yang Junran the most was that they didn't know how to deal with the captured wealth.
"Commander, the grain and ammunition in the village have already started to be transported back. The troops of Kang Lianqin have also set off. There are too many things here, we can't transport them all back. Moreover, these financial resources are quite a lot, several traitors hold not a small number of land deeds." Fang Hanchen walked over and said to Yang Junran.
"Should we take away all the property? These are the people's wealth extorted by the traitors, if we take them all away, aren't we the same as those traitors? Let's tear up all the land deeds and let the people re-distribute the land themselves. We'll leave some of the property behind and distribute the rest to the people. If the Japanese army comes back, they will confiscate the land again, but the property can be hidden, however, the land cannot be hidden. Now we must make a name for ourselves." Yang Junran said to Han Qin.
He knew what he had to do now. If he didn't take some concrete action, the common people would probably just think of him as a bandit or a rebel leader.
Fang Hanchen had already walked out towards the outside, while Yang Junran tidied up his military uniform to prepare for receiving some fellow villagers.
Troops were back and forth transporting military supplies within the county, and the people benefited from it, and also began to contribute some means of transportation such as horse-drawn carts.
Many young people are clamoring to join the troops and fight the Japanese to the death.
Yang Junran couldn't help but admire his own wise decision for not taking all of his belongings with him.
"Commander, we already have over 300 young people joining our troops now. By tonight, we can break through the strength of a thousand." Fang Hanchen walked over with a document in his hand and said to Yang Junran.
Yang Junran took a look at the list and found that except for a small number of children without relatives, they were all from poor families.
"The families of those who joined the army must be treated with preferential treatment, and material compensation should be made as much as possible. Tell the fellow villagers that our guerrilla troops will continue to attack the Japanese army in Chahar, so they don't have any mental burden." Yang Junran said to Fang Hanchin.
Fang Hanchen smiled and said to Yang Junran, "That's right, they're worried that their sons will be taken away by us, no wonder they've been so unenthusiastic all along."
After finishing speaking, Fang Hanqin walked out towards the outside.
The people in the county town are now very happy.
The sound of gunfire lasted for a long time last night, and when I went out this morning, there were National Army soldiers everywhere.
It wasn't until then that I knew the National Army had already eliminated the devils here and reoccupied the county seat.
He not only got land but also a lot of property.
This made the people under Japanese rule very happy.
Since learning that the guerrilla forces would continue to attack the Japanese army in Chahar, young people have become more enthusiastic about joining the army.
Who would want their own son to be a slave for the Japanese here? It's better to have him join the army and fight against the Japanese, at least that way he'll have some dignity.
By evening, the number of recruits had reached one thousand five hundred men.
Yang Junran also knew that he couldn't stay here for too long, and quickly ordered Fang Hanchen to lead the newly recruited soldiers to rush to their destination.
And he himself followed the warriors, making the final arrangements.
The villagers were very puzzled by the National Army's withdrawal.
But some people still understand that as long as this troop is here, the Japanese army will not dare to bully themselves excessively.
Looking at the townspeople who came to see him off, Yang Junran felt a bit uncomfortable in his heart. If he had the strength, he would not have given up this county so easily. However, he didn't have such strength now, and besides, the troops that could really fight under him were less than two thousand people.
After returning to his village, Yang Junran started making trouble again.
For the troops' weapons, Yang Junran began to change.
The weapons distributed above are somewhat better than Japanese weapons, but ammunition replenishment is extremely difficult.
This time a large number of weapons were captured, and Yang Junran decided to let the troops use Japanese equipment.
"Commander, our current troop strength is over 5,000 people. Except for the more than 1,000 newly recruited ones, the rest can participate in combat. We have captured a considerable amount of food, but if we eat like this, I'm afraid it won't last long." Fang Hanchen walked over and said to Yang Junran.
Looking at the dilapidated village, Yang Junran began to hesitate.
"Reorganize the troops, find a suitable location, and put all the captured Japanese military weapons in the underground ammunition depot. Tomorrow, have several battalion commanders come over and we'll discuss the troop's affairs." Yang Junran said to Fang Hanqin while looking at his ring.
Fang Hanchen nodded and walked out towards the outside.
Yang Junran, on the other hand, had arrived at the underground ammunition depot he had ordered his warriors to dig, preparing to use the ring to replicate these weapons.
Looking at the rows of howitzers and mountain guns, Yang Junran's heart was worried, he didn't know if the ring could replicate these weapons.
"Copy." Yang Junran shouted softly, but there was no response.
He still didn't know how to use the ring and could only sit on an ammunition box, waiting for the ring to replicate itself.
The sky was getting darker and darker, and Yang Junran fell asleep gradually due to a night of fatigue.
The second morning, there were a lot more weapons and ammunition around.
Yang Junran looked at the ring and saw that the unclear white color on it had already started to turn silvery white in some areas.
"It's over, is this thing going to be finished?" Yang Junran thought of something, everything has a limit, and this thing can't have no limit.
Looking at the Japanese military weapons scattered all over the ground, Yang Junran felt a little regretful. If they could replicate German weapons, these little devils would probably not be worth mentioning.
Yang Junran secretly felt relieved that he hadn't copied those worn-out weapons, and it also dispelled his idea of copying Zhou Yulan's team's weapons.
He patted his own dizzy head and walked towards his room.
Seeing the officer in the room, Yang Junran sat down in his own position.
Watching the officers, Yang Junran wrote down the formation of the troops.
Two brigades, each with three infantry regiments and one machine gun regiment.
Infantry battalion (three 92-type heavy machine guns, nine 11-type light machine guns, twelve grenade launchers, 550 Type 38 rifles)
Machine Gun Battalion (five 94-type 90mm light howitzers, five 92-type heavy machine guns)
Each column has two thousand people.
A guerrilla column directly under a mortar battalion (ten 97-type 150mm mortars). A mountain artillery regiment (ten 41-type 75mm mountain guns, ten 94-type 75mm mountain guns). A machine gun battalion (ten 92-type heavy machine guns, eleven 11-type light machine guns).
After Yang Junran's stir-fry, including the captured county town military supply depot's all Japanese military weapons and equipment, there were not many stocks left.
As for the weapons distributed above, even if Yang Junran doesn't say anything, some must be sent to Zhou Yulan's place, otherwise how will people look at the guerrilla column.
"Kang Lianqin is the commander of the first battalion, Long Yanjun is the deputy commander, Yun Qiaohe and Liang Fei are the commanders of the three regiments. I am also the commander of the second battalion, Ji Quan, Jin Mingcheng and Fang Hanchen are the commanders of the three regiments respectively. As for the machine gun battalion and the guerrilla column, the officers will be appointed by each department, and those who are capable will take up their posts." Yang Junran looked at everyone seriously and said.
Among everyone except a few who did not get promoted, everyone else got promoted, so naturally there would be no dissent and they all agreed with Yang Junran's plan.
