Chapter 38: Ambush in the Mountain Village

Chapter 38: Encounter with the Enemy in the Mountain Village

Since adopting the two little white wolves, Della's overflowing love finally found an outlet. She spent her days hugging them and stuffing their mouths with beef jerky and other treats. Although the two little wolves didn't understand much yet, they were very affectionate towards her, constantly nuzzling in her arms and occasionally licking her palms with their tiny tongues. The ticklish sensation made Della burst out laughing uncontrollably.

The other girls in the medical team also liked these two little wolves with special fur colors, they took turns holding them and gave them a nice name called Daxue and Xiaoxue.

It seems that girls' nature can't be changed no matter what.

Qin Yang looked at Dai'er and the others, who were smiling and chatting, and suddenly remembered the red-clothed girl he had met on the Wangxiang Tower. At that time, she had introduced herself as Hongyi.

As soon as he thought of the red clothes, Qin Yang couldn't help but think of the refreshing and elegant appearance of Hongyi, although she lacked a few points of gentleness that girls should have, but had an extra point of toughness that Dai'er and others didn't possess. Although they only met briefly, she left a very deep impression on him.

"I don't know when I'll see her again!" Qin Yang unconsciously spoke out loud, then came to his senses and hastily looked around, seeing that no one had noticed, only then did he put his mind at ease.

The special forces team advanced in a relaxed atmosphere. When they turned over a hill, Qin Yang signaled for everyone to stop.

Ahead lies an area outside of Chinese military control, but not occupied by Japanese troops either. It is a blank zone where neither side has stationed soldiers. Due to the limited strength of both sides, in order to gain an advantage locally, they can only withdraw their forces and abandon some areas with little strategic significance.

Knowing that they were about to enter the three-no-man's-land area, Dail and the others also quieted down, so as not to delay the special forces' operation.

"Map!" Qin Yang stretched out his hand towards Tie Tou.

Tie took out a military map from his backpack, and two special forces soldiers walked up and unfolded the map.

Qin Yang stared at the map, his finger sliding lightly over it, finally stopping at a place. He raised his head and looked around, eventually spotting a row of neatly arranged stone men and horses in the front right direction, as well as a rather dilapidated but very tidy stone path and a small hill-like mound at the end of the path.

"It's here, Zhao Jia Shang Cun!" Qin Yang confirmed their current location.

About one mile down from the mountain pass, there is a small village called Zhaojia Shangcun on the right side of the mountain road. The majority of the villagers are surnamed Zhao, with some other families living there as well. On the opposite side of Zhaojia Shangcun, there is another small village on the left side of the mountain road, called Zhaojia Xiācūn. It is said that the ancestors of both villages were originally one, but later separated and eventually evolved into two separate villages over time.

Qin Yang planned to rest in this village for a night and continue on his journey tomorrow. He would be able to reach the Llama Cave by afternoon.

A group of people passed through the mountain pass and headed towards a small village. Before they arrived, Qin Yang had already sent out an advance party to scout ahead, so they didn't move quickly. After sending out signals, they waited for the vanguard to rendezvous with them.

Two figures flashed in the direction of the village, and soon arrived in front of them. Qin Yang saw that they were the vanguard who had gone ahead to scout out the situation, so he asked: "What's the situation up ahead?"

The vanguard stretched out his hand and made a gesture of everything being all right, then led the way to the village, with Qin Yang and his party closely following behind.

Two little white wolves poked their heads out of Della's backpack, blinking a pair of emerald green eyes curiously at this group of unfamiliar companions.

When there were still over 100 meters away from the village, a gunshot came from the village, although it was faint, but it entered Qin Yang's ears.

Qin Yang stopped in his tracks, and at the same time, the vanguard in front of him also made a gesture to stop advancing.

The vanguard nodded in agreement and crept towards the village, quickly disappearing into the night.

Qin Yang quickly walked to the front of the team, reached out to grab the binoculars, and only then remembered that his two infrared binoculars had been given to Zhao Dengyu and He Jikui. Now he only had an ordinary pair of binoculars in his hand.

After a while, the scout had already returned with news from the front. He looked furious and quickly gestured to Qin Yang. Qin Yang understood that a group of Japanese soldiers had somehow wandered into the village, possibly because they were angry after being defeated in battle, and were now killing people, setting fires, and bullying women everywhere in the village.

"What about the captain?" Tie Tou asked.

"Prepare for battle!" Qin Yang learned from the vanguard that there were about 100 to 200 of these devils, although they outnumbered them, but now scattered throughout the village doing evil, and a second lieutenant officer also broke into a girl's room. The Japanese soldiers are in chaos.

After taking a look at Dai'er and the others, Qin Yang disregarded their objections and ordered a combat team to stay behind and protect Dai'er and the others' safety. Only then did he lead the remaining special warfare personnel to rush towards the village.

As they approached the village, Qin Yang and his companions heard the maniacal laughter of the devils and the cries of the people. Looking towards the village, they saw that on the main street, some people were running about in a flurry, with those in front wearing civilian clothes, apparently the villagers, while behind them Japanese soldiers wearing steel helmets and holding rifles were chasing after them. As they chased, from time to time they would raise their guns and fire a shot, striking down one of the fleeing civilians before pursuing the next one.

Qin Yang's eyes shot out two cold glows, and he said in a low voice to the special warfare team members: "Attack in small combat units, strive to end the battle in the shortest time."

The team members responded in unison, dispersed and formed small groups of five people each, using the haystacks and walls as cover to quickly sneak closer to the devils.

Qin Yang and Wan Lai Sheng rushed to the courtyard at the center of the village, where the Japanese lieutenant had just dragged a girl in. They planned to take out the officer first, so he wouldn't be able to organize the Japanese soldiers for a counterattack.

Two people turned around the street corner and saw two big devils holding rifles standing at the gate of the courtyard, pacing back and forth.

Qin Yang reached out and pulled out the short knife that Wan Lai Sheng had given him, just as he was about to touch it, Wan Lai Sheng grabbed him.

Qin Yang was taken aback, and then saw Wan Lai Sheng wipe his waist with one hand, and when he raised it again, there were already two cold and shiny flying knives between his fingers. He swung his hand and threw them at the Japanese soldiers by the door.

The Japanese soldier at the door hadn't even reacted when he felt a pain in his forehead, and then knew nothing.

At this time, a fierce gunshot sounded in the village, and it seemed that the special forces had taken action.

Qin Yang and Wan Lai Sheng darted out from the shadows at the corner of the street, stepping over a Japanese soldier with a flying dagger stuck in his forehead, and rushed to the entrance. Wan Lai Sheng pushed the door open with one hand, but it was locked from the inside. Through the gap between the doors came the sound of a woman's cries for help and the angry roars of the Japanese soldiers.

A loud shout, an eyebrow raised, a foot kicked on the door, a "crack" sound, the horizontal bar of the gate broke off, and two people rushed into the yard.

In the courtyard, four Japanese soldiers stood, and as soon as they saw someone rush in, they hastily raised their rifles. Before they could take aim, Wan Lai's long knife had already been swung out, a cold light flashing across the Japanese soldiers' rifles, cutting them in two.

Wan Lengsheng shouted towards Qin Yang: "You go save people, I'll collect them!"

Qin Yang saw that the Japanese soldiers had lost their rifles and knew they were not a match for the sound of Wan Lai. So, without hesitation, he rushed directly to the west wing where the sound was coming from.

In the western wing of the house was a hayloft, where high piles of hay were stacked on the floor. A Japanese officer was riding on top of a woman, tearing at her clothes.

The woman struggled desperately, but unfortunately her strength was no match for the Japanese officer's. Her top had been torn open, exposing most of her chest, yet she continued to struggle with all her might, and for a moment the Japanese officer was unable to have his way.

Hearing a noise behind him, the Japanese officer's hands were still holding onto the woman when he turned around and was punched in the jaw with such great force that his tongue was bitten by his own teeth before he could even react.

A Japanese officer let out a strange cry, jumped up from the woman's body, spat out a bloody tongue, covered his mouth and jumped on the ground, and his hair was caught by a big hand and knocked against the wall of the house.

Qin Yang grabbed the Japanese officer and knocked him against the stone several times, only stopping when his hand loosened and the officer fell to the ground with a bloody face.

The woman who was almost insulted had tidied up her clothes and stood up from the straw heap when Qin Yang collected the Japanese officer, and she ran over to thank Qin Yang repeatedly.

Qin Yang remembered the sound of Wan Lai's voice in the courtyard, waved his hand and ran out of the house. He saw Wan Lai wiping the blood stains on the knife with the clothes of a Japanese soldier, while several Japanese soldiers were already lying on the ground, their heads severed from their bodies.

  "Ah!"

The woman let out a sharp cry, covering her eyes with both hands. She had never seen such a bloody scene before and was so frightened that her whole body was trembling. Qin Yang and Wan Lai Sheng comforted her for a long time before she calmed down slightly.

After a while, the fighting in the village had stopped. Under the sudden attack of the special forces, many Japanese soldiers didn't even understand what was happening before they went to the afterlife. The remaining ones who resisted were also eliminated one by one under the precise strike of the special forces.

Escaping the Japanese soldiers' clutches, villagers flocked to this courtyard, surrounding Qin Yang and Wan Lai, thanking them profusely, making Qin Yang and Wan Lai busy with hands and feet.

"Thanks a lot, mister!" A woman's voice sounded in Qin Yang's ear.

Looking back, Qin Yang found that the speaker was the woman he had rescued from the Japanese soldiers. Saying "woman" seemed not quite accurate, she looked more like a girl judging by her age.

The girl saw Qin Yang looking at her, her face turned red, and she lowered her head, saying softly: "This big brother, I don't even know what your name is?"

  Qin Yang!

"Oh!" The girl smiled brightly: "My name is Gang Qingye!"
