Chapter 8: Bloody Battle at the Mouth of the Gate (Part 2)
February in the north is very cold!
In front of the Ji Fengkou town earthwork, the corpses of the 29th Army and the Japanese army were intertwined, entangled, and piled up on a hillside about half the size of a football field. Fresh blood flowed from the newly dead bodies, slowly flowing down to the low-lying areas, where it was frozen into ice in the cold north wind. The original crimson color also slowly turned dark red. The golden light of the setting sun on the western mountain cast over the battlefield, dyeing it with another layer of enchanting golden yellow.
The only half-withered old locust tree on the battlefield was also ignited by shells, emitting strands of black smoke.
As the last wave of enemy retreated slowly, the sounds of slaughter and gunfire on the battlefield stopped, and the Japanese artillery attack did not begin.
Shi Zhen-gang saw through the telescope that the Japanese military camp was in a mess, with bursts of loud laughter coming from time to time. A faint scent of food also wafted through the air.
"It seems the devils are having a meal!" Shi Zhen-gang thought to himself as he sat down.
Just now when I was highly tense, I didn't notice it, but now that I've relaxed, Shi Zhen-gang felt like all the joints in his body had come apart, and were both sore and numb, as if millions of ants were crawling inside his bones.
Sitting on the ground, a burning sensation came from his right shoulder, Shi Zhen-gang knew it was the result of the Japanese soldier's stab earlier. If it wasn't for the orderly who pushed him away, he estimated that the stabbed part would not be his right shoulder but his left chest. However, the orderly had his belly slit open by the devil's knife.
"Ah!" A low groan came from beside him, Shi Zhen-gang no longer had the strength to get up, he hastily crawled to the orderly's side on all fours, shouting in a low voice: "Er Wa, wake up, wake up, you can't sleep!"
Soldier Little Wang's body was covered with a tattered military coat, his abdomen was hastily wrapped with bandages, and a section of green intestine protruded from the wound over three inches long, already frozen into a thin layer of ice.
Hearing the company commander calling him, Erwa made an effort to open his eyes and forced a smile on his pale face. "Company Commander, I'm so sleepy, I want to sleep! Can you let me sleep for a while?"
Looking at Erwa who was slowly closing his eyes again, Shi Zhenqiang shook his gradually cold body with force, and his voice trembled: "Erwa, Erwa, you open your eyes for Laozi, you little devil can't sleep, can't sleep!"
A faint sound of footsteps came from the rear of the position, Shi Zhen-gang turned his head to look back and saw a team of soldiers wearing special warfare uniforms; like a leopard jumping forward between rocks, quickly approaching their position, led by Qin Yang, Zhao's good brother.
Shi Zhen Gang seemed to have seen some hope, he lowered his head and shook Er Wa with all his might, shouting: "Er Wa, hold on, the rescue team is here, you're going to be saved, you must hold on for me, did you hear that, you must hold on!"
The second girl's blue lips moved twice, as if she wanted to say something, but her head slowly tilted to one side, and the right hand placed on Shi Zhen Gang's knee slowly fell.
Hearing Shi Zhen-gang's cry, Dai'er rushed over quickly and squatted beside Er-wa, stretching out her hand to feel his neck, then flipped open his eyelids to take a look, shaking her head at Shi Zhen-gang.
Shi Zhen Gang lowered his head, gazing at Er Wa's face which seemed to be in a deep sleep, and gently wiped the soot off his face with his hand. He then wrapped him tightly in his arms. His lips kept trembling.
Two drops of tears fell on Erwa's face, followed by another drop, and another...
The sky turned dark, and the Japanese army's camp was lit with flickering lights, with people constantly moving around. However, it seemed that they did not intend to launch an immediate attack. The day's attack had cost them nearly a hundred casualties, while the 217th Regiment's third battalion suffered over two hundred casualties.
The ground above the Ji Fengkou Town was pitch black, not a single lamp in sight. The dark environment didn't pose any challenge to the 29th Army officers and soldiers who were already accustomed to night battles. As for Qin Yang's special warfare battalion, night combat was a basic subject, so it was even less of an issue.
Behind the bunker, more than 100 soldiers stood in four rows, each with a large knife on their back and two hand grenades tucked into their waist.
Qin Yang stood to one side, behind him more than 40 special warfare team members stood silently, wearing special warfare equipment, steel helmets on their heads, and Qin Yang's camouflage cream made from herbal medicine smeared on their faces in a mottled green pattern.
Shi Zhen Gang had a thick bandage wrapped around his right shoulder, with blood seeping through the bandage and staining his military uniform red. He held a large knife in his left hand, sizing up the over 100 people in front of him.
The biting north wind howled and blew, the red tassels on the handles of the warriors' big knives fluttered.
Shi Zhen Gang glanced at Qin Yang, seeing that he had changed into a special combat uniform completely different from the team members, with a black and shiny handgun inserted in the gun holster on his thigh, and a military knife hanging from his waist.
"Shi Ying Chang, are you ready?" Qin Yang asked Shi Zhen Gang after putting everything in order.
For some reason, as soon as he put on this set of clothes, he felt as if he had returned to the original era, the jungle that had been traversed countless times, and those familiar brothers.
Having been in this world for so long, as the novelty of this era gradually faded away, Qin Yang couldn't help but miss the era he originally lived in.
He knew his roots were there, his roots in that green military camp, in that loud reveille, in that flag waving in the wind!
So he has been reluctant to take out this set of clothes, because it is his only connection with that era.
But now he must put it on, because a special forces soldier must go all out every time they carry out a mission, no matter if the opponent is a falcon or a tortoise, and can't be careless at all.
Shi Zhen Gang glanced at Qin Yang, he found that Qin Yang, who was wearing this set of clothes, seemed to have regained something, and his spirit was emitting a unique aura. However, he didn't have time to think about these things now, so he just nodded.
Qin Yang waved his hand, leading the special warfare team members to jump out of the one-meter-high bunker in a file, disappearing into the vast night. Shi Zhen-gang let out a low growl and led more than 100 dare-to-die team members to crawl out of the bunker as well.
……
It was late at night, and except for the sound of wind blowing through the branches, no other sounds could be heard.
The Japanese soldiers' camp was getting closer and closer, even the footsteps of the sentry could be heard clearly.
The vanguard of the special forces team stopped in their tracks and gestured with their hands towards the back.
The special forces soldiers behind also stopped and quickly dispersed in a combat formation of five people per group. The dare-to-die corps followed closely behind them.
Tie Tou made a gesture to the other two vanguards, and they nodded in understanding. Then the three of them crept towards the two Japanese sentries.
The sentry held a Type 38 rifle and walked back and forth, they didn't think the 29th Army dared to launch a surprise attack on them. There were nearly three hundred devils in the camp, and at each corner of the camp, there was a Japanese armored vehicle with someone inside for 24 hours. Even Japanese soldiers had their rifles with them when eating and sleeping, making it not easy to launch a surprise attack.
Besides, they didn't think the Chinese army had the guts to launch a sneak attack.
Tie Tou stealthily crept up to within four or five steps of the two sentries, then suddenly darted out of the darkness and rushed in front of them. Before they could react, he grabbed the collars of their uniforms with one hand and banged their heads together.
With a loud crash, the two sentries' steel helmets collided and flew off.
Even with their helmets on, the two sentries were still dazed from being knocked down, but they hadn't passed out.
"Ah, forgot the turtle shell!" Tie Tou shouted, grabbing two sentries with his hands on their guns. He quickly used both hands to exert force again, and this time it was like two broken watermelons colliding together. The backs of the heads of the two Japanese soldiers were bleeding profusely, and as soon as Tie Tou loosened his grip, he fell to the ground.
"Stop it, Tie Tou!" Qin Yang growled.
Tie Tou hastily responded with a sound, leading two special warfare team members to rush towards an armored vehicle in one corner, while three other special warfare teams rushed towards the remaining three corners' armored vehicles.
The Japanese army's armored vehicles, more than a dozen in total, were parked in the open space within the camp, except for four of them placed at the four corners of the camp with people inside. Tie Tou and his men took advantage of the cover of tents and shadows to sneak towards the armored vehicles.
A Japanese soldier crawled out of the armored vehicle, singing a Japanese folk song as he jumped down from the armored vehicle, walked to the side of the tent, and unzipped his pants ready to urinate.
Tie Tou suddenly flashed out from behind the tent, and with one kick on the Japanese soldier's knee, he broke his kneecap with a loud crack. The Japanese soldier let out a blood-curdling scream before his face was met with another heavy blow, and he fainted from the intense pain.
Looking at the Japanese soldier who had fallen into a coma, Tie Tou withdrew his knee that had struck the Japanese soldier's face and smiled triumphantly.
Behind him, a dare-to-die team member raised his big knife and slashed at the Japanese soldier on the ground.
The hatch on top of the tank turret suddenly moved, and a Japanese soldier poked his head out of the cabin door on top of the car, possibly hearing the commotion outside to take a look.
Tie Tou was shocked, he leaped onto the armored vehicle, his left foot sweeping horizontally, the hatch cover slammed down on the hatch with a loud bang, the solid steel plate covering the hatch heavily slapped onto the head of the Japanese soldier who had poked out, and the Japanese soldier fell back into the armored vehicle compartment.
Tie Tou pulled out a hand grenade from his waist, pulled the fuse, opened the hatch with one hand, threw the grenade down, then covered the hatch and jumped off the armored vehicle.
Just a few steps away, a dull roar came from the armored vehicle, and the ground shook slightly. Tie Tou turned his head to look back, and thick smoke was billowing out of every gap in the armored vehicle.
"Done!" Tiedou patted his bald head and ran towards the armored vehicle parked in the center of the arena.
Almost at the same time, the armored vehicles responsible for sentry duty in the four corners of the camp also suffered the same fate and were blown up into a pile of scrap iron by the special forces' hand grenades.
As the explosion went off, the special forces and kamikaze troops had already dispersed. The kamikaze troops charged into the tent with their large knives raised in both hands. Before the Japanese soldiers could react from being woken up from their sleep, the knives came down with a cold wind.
Commandos crouched on the ground, Somi 1931 submachine gun accurate burst of fire, shot and killed one by one Japanese soldiers rushing out of the tent at the entrance of the tent. More than 40 submachine guns formed a dense firepower network, easily killing every fish that escaped the net.
A rumbling sound came from one corner of the camp, and the special forces soldiers turned their heads to see several armored vehicles rushing over, crushing several Japanese tents and rolling over them, with the Japanese soldiers inside being crushed under the heavy tracks.
Looking at Ironhead standing on top of the armored vehicle, holding the machine gun on the vehicle and spraying it around while laughing loudly, the special forces member cursed in his heart: "The captain is really a madman!"
Shi Zhen Gang, holding a large knife that was still dripping with fresh blood, rushed out of a tent. This battle had been the most enjoyable one in a long time. Cutting off the little devils' heads was as easy as cutting watermelons in the field, so neat and satisfying.
Looking around at dawn, he saw that the battle was almost over. In each tent, there were dare-to-die warriors wielding big knives, and those who tried to escape fell under the guns of the special forces. He knew this time they had achieved a complete victory.
"Thanks to you, Qin, otherwise it wouldn't have been so satisfying!" Shi Zhen-gang wiped the big knife clean with the clothes of the Japanese soldiers on the ground and put it on his back, smiling at Qin Yang.
Qin Yang smiled slightly, he didn't expect the first battle of the special forces to be won so easily. In fact, apart from the advantages of the special forces in surprise attacks, the Japanese army's underestimation was also one of the reasons.
Two people had just spoken two sentences when a red signal flare rose into the northern sky. Qin Yang's face changed, and he shouted to the special forces soldiers: "Assist in resolving the battle immediately, the Japanese reinforcements have arrived!"
The two combat teams of special forces immediately put away their submachine guns and drew out the special forces dagger, rushing into the still-battling tent like a whirlwind.
Shi Zhen Gang only heard a few mournful cries coming from inside, and then the special forces members had already jumped out of it, rushing towards the next tent.
Within two minutes all the tents had been cleaned out and there was not a live Japanese soldier in the entire bivouac.
As the sound of gunfire grew louder in the distance, Qin Yang shouted to the special forces and dare-to-die corps: "Sweep the battlefield, take away what you can, blow up what you can't, don't leave anything for the devils!"
The people took down the guns and ammunition from the enemy's corpse, and then swept away the ammunition depot in the camp. Several special forces members had already set their sights on the six mortars, swarming up, carrying them and running away.
Iron Head directed the special warfare team members to drive the armored vehicle behind the crowd towards the outside of the camp, and was seen by Qin Yang at a glance. He scolded: "Iron Head, you little devil is itching for a fight, isn't he? Hurry up and leave!"
Iron Head had no choice but to jump off the armored vehicle with another addicted special forces member, running towards the outside of the camp. Just a few steps into their run, Iron Head suddenly remembered something and ran back, pulling out the fuse of a Japanese soldier's grenade from his waistband before grabbing the corpse and shoving it into the armored vehicle. He then turned around and sprinted out of the camp like a rabbit.
"Boom!"
The last intact armored vehicle in the Japanese military camp finally ended its "glorious" life and became a smoking piece of scrap iron.
"My goodness, it's really painful!" Tie Tou muttered while running.
As soon as the people had disappeared into the night, a large contingent of Japanese troops arrived at the camp, numbering an entire regiment.
"Ah-ya!"
Looking at the chaotic camp in front of him and the corpses all over the ground, the commander of the Japanese army's Hattori brigade angrily drew his sword and chopped down a small tree beside him.
