Chapter 26: The Tomb of Qianying

Chapter 26: The Tomb of Qianying

The command post on Mengzi Ridge.

Qin Yang lay on his back facing upwards, quietly lying in bed, with his eyes closed, fast asleep.

Dai sat on the stool beside the bed, with a basin placed next to her. The basin contained clear water, and a faint white mist rose from it. A towel was soaking in the basin, and a pair of smooth, delicate white hands reached into the basin, grasped the towel, gently rubbed it twice, then wrung out the water and took it out of the basin.

The bloodstains had been washed away by Dai'er, and although Qin Yang's complexion still looked somewhat pale, he seemed to have regained some color, a significant improvement from the deathly pallor when he fainted earlier.

Although Qin Yang's face had already been washed clean by her, Dai'er still picked up the hot towel and carefully wiped his face. Her expression was very focused, as if a lover gazing at their beloved, or a mother gazing at her newborn baby.

The room was very quiet, with only the sound of towels stirring in the water and Daisy's low muttering.

After wiping Qin Yang's face, Dai'er took out a handkerchief from the quilt and gently wiped his hands. As she looked at the palm full of wounds, her eyes gradually became moist.

"Qin big brother, why are you so stupid? Didn't I tell you to be careful with yourself? Why do you still want to do this and get hurt so badly?"

Dai'er wiped her hands and put Qin Yang's hand back, stretching out to lift the quilt on Qin Yang's body, but her hand stopped in mid-air. She seemed to be hesitating about something, and couldn't bring herself to do it.

Time passed for over ten seconds, but in Dài ěr's feeling it seemed like a decade had passed.

At last, she made up her mind and with trembling hands slowly lifted Qin Yang's quilt.

Looking at Qin Yang's bare upper body, Dai'er first blushed, then was drawn to the wound on his chest. The broad chest was covered with wounds of varying depths, and one scar extended from the center of his chest down to his ribs. The bright red wounds stood out against the dark red bloodstains, making them particularly shocking.

Dai'er stretched out her hand, trembling, and slowly stroked the wound on Qin Yang's chest. Tears could no longer be held back, overflowing from her eyes and flowing slowly down her cheeks!

Dai'er reached out to wipe away her tears, but they only seemed to flow more abundantly. Eventually, the tears gushed out like a spring, and Dai'er covered her face with both hands, sobbing silently.

A drop of tear fell on the ground, followed by another! Soon a large area was wetted.

"Qin big brother, you don't know, seeing you hurt so badly, I...I..." Dai'er choked with sobs, unable to continue.

Dai'er cried as she picked up the towel and gently wiped Qin Yang's wounds, and with each wipe of blood, every revealed wound made her heart ache involuntarily.

Clear water and tears rippled in the basin, reflecting a tear-stained face.

Outside, Xiao Yue and Huo Er stood guard at the door, the low sobbing sounds coming from inside the house making their noses feel sour. The two exchanged a glance, wanting to say something, but neither knew how to start.

The gate creaked, and the iron-headed man wrapped in gauze walked in from outside, glanced at the two people, raised his foot onto the step, and was about to push open the door.

"Shh, Captain Dai is inside, don't go in!"

Xiao Yue reached out and stopped him, whispering two sentences in his ear. Tie Tou nodded and turned to walk towards the door.

He walked a few steps, then came back, and pulled something out of his pocket. The normally bold and generous Tie Tou was now hesitating like a woman, twisting and turning, before finally opening his palm to Xiao Yue.

Xiao Yue was taken aback and looked down at Tie Tou's open palm.

A crudely carved small wooden sword lay quietly in the broad and coarse palm of an iron-headed man, its craftsmanship was so bad that it could be called ugly.

"This is what I spent a night carving with a dagger, for... you!" Tie Tou rarely smiled, his voice trembling slightly.

Xiao Yue measured the wooden sword with her eyes, then lifted her head and stared at Tie Tou, remaining silent for a long time.

"If you don't like it, I'll take it away and carve a better one for you next time!" Under Xiao Yue's direct gaze, Iron Head's forehead was covered in fine sweat beads. He nervously moved his lips, carefully finished speaking, and stretched out the hand that had been placed on Xiao Yue's face to retrieve it.

Xiao Yue burst out laughing, he stretched out his hand, took the small wooden sword, carefully put it into his pocket, and then said to Tie Tou: "This time I'll let you off, but next time I don't want such an ugly thing!"

"Haha, I know, I know!" Tie Tou excitedly patted his turban-like hairdo and responded with a "hmm", before turning around and running out quickly.

  "This careless fellow!"

Xiao Yue reached into his chest pocket and touched the small wooden sword, again recalling Tie Tou's silly expression earlier, and feeling a severe palpitation.

  ……

Qin Yang seemed to have had a strange dream. In the dream, he dreamed of a girl in camouflage clothing smiling at him and making a V-shaped victory gesture with her hand. He opened his arms wide towards her, and the girl happily ran towards him. At this time, the sound of sniper rifle fire came from the thicket behind the girl. The girl's running body suddenly stopped, her open arms waved twice, like a butterfly with broken wings, slowly falling down...

Blood, the girl's bright red blood flowers splashing in the sky, as if a fluttering down of vibrant petals! Falling on her own face, arms!

"No, don't!" Qin Yang cried out in a terrified low voice. Then he sat up with a start from the bed.

He found himself lying on a bed, covered with a quilt, and on the table beside the bed was a basin of pale red water, in which a towel that had been stained red with fresh blood was soaking.

Qin Yang took stock of his surroundings, and only then did he realize that he was in the command post at Mengzi Ridge. He really had to thank Wan Fulin's greedy brother-in-law for building a fully-equipped residence here, otherwise Qin Yang might not have such a good place to recover from his injuries.

Thinking of being injured, Qin Yang hurriedly looked at his own injuries.

What made him laugh and cry at the same time was that his upper body was wrapped tightly in layer upon layer of bandages, looking like an Egyptian mummy unearthed. The lower half of his pants were still intact, but from the pant legs to above the knee, they had been cut open with scissors, and the wounds on his legs had been medicated and bandaged.

Qin Yang's tense emotions relaxed, and he felt as if all the bones in his body had been shattered. A sour, numb, and itchy feeling drilled into every pore of his skin, making him almost cry out loud.

He slowly lay down his body and let out a comfortable low moan.

At this moment, a low murmur came from beside him, and it seemed that something was pressing on Qin Yang's arm.

Qin Yang looked down and saw Dai'er sitting on the stool at the bedside, leaning against the bed frame and sleeping very sweetly. Even in her sleep, there were still tears hanging from her eyelashes that had not yet dried.

Dai'er turned over, holding one of Qin Yang's arms in her bosom, resting her head on the crook of his arm, and fell asleep again.

Qin Yang looked at Dai Er's somewhat haggard face and couldn't help but reach out his hand, gently stroking her beautiful long hair.

Dai'er in her sleep didn't know if she had a good dream or felt comfortable with Qin Yang's caress, but a sweet smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.

The sun shone through the window of the house and fell on Qin Yang's face, adding a bit of spirit to his angular face.

  …………

On the east side of the mountain peak, a row of tombstones stood upright on the edge of the cliff. The tombstones were arranged in a very neat and orderly manner, with hundreds visible at a glance.

On each tombstone is engraved a name with a dagger and a knife.

  ……

  Wang Baoliang Camp

  Guo Yintao ranked first

Zhao Bingbang is in charge of the dragon boat team

Li Fengxian followed him for a long time

  Song Fa Jun ranked first

  Song Changyong ranks first

  Sun Hongbin ranked first

  Li Wan Zhen ranked first

  Yang Boji Continues Long

  Li Huai Fu Pai Chang

  ……

  Yue Hai team member

  Jiao Ming team member

  Ma Tianyu teammates

  Han Sheng team member

  ……

Under the sunset, the tombstone is silently silent!

He Jiguang, Tiedou and the sixty surviving warriors all stood in front of these tombstones. Qin Yang also stood in the first row of the team with He Jiguang side by side, supported by Daiyu.

In the north wind, people gaze at this thousand-seat heroic mausoleum!

Looking at those who were still alive not long ago but now lying in the tomb behind the grave, people's emotions are very heavy. No one spoke a word.

He gazed at the brave warriors who had sacrificed their lives for the country, and his low voice rang out: "They are all heroes who have made sacrifices for the nation and the people. Although they can only be buried in this place after death, I believe that future generations will not forget them!"

Listening to He Jikun's words, Qin Yang did not speak. He didn't know if he should tell He Jikun that in later generations, the cemeteries of martyrs who sacrificed for national freedom and prosperity were all developed into orchards; or whether they would still be as brave in fighting against enemies if they knew that every Qingming Festival, those martyr cemeteries were deserted with hardly anyone visiting.

But Qin Yang knew he would, no matter whether future generations would remember him or not, he would still fight with his last drop of blood.

Just because he is a soldier, he deeply loves this hot land under his feet!

  For her, no regrets!
