Chapter 7: The God of Guns

  Chapter 7: The Divine Gunman

  "Get out."

Wang Dazhu shouted, and he and Qian Sixi ran over with three rifles on their backs and two boxes in their arms. The rifles were no problem, they were all the Type 38s that everyone had captured yesterday, and the enemy's rifles were still well-maintained, looking about 80% new. After pulling the bolt twice, Gao Quan was quite satisfied. Although this rifle has a simple structure, it wins in terms of stability and durability. The two boxes, the smaller one was filled with shiny bullets, and the larger box was full of hand grenades.

The pain from the wound on his left shoulder had eased a lot, and the medic of the temporary second company had applied medicine to it and re-bandaged it. Fortunately, it hadn't hit any bones, and the bullet hadn't stayed in the flesh, so he would recover soon. Gao Quan took out a packet of biscuits from his pocket and stuffed one into his mouth. This was war spoils seized from the Japanese army camp. Gao Quan had secretly stashed away two packets. Although they had eaten a meal after returning, before the battle started, Gao Quan still wanted to supplement some nutrition. Once the fight began, who knew when they would be able to eat again?

Wang Dazhu and Qian Sixi looked at Gao Quan with curiosity, wondering about this new squad leader's good appetite. An hour ago when they were eating, he didn't eat a bit less than anyone else, so why was he hungry again now?

"Would you like some too?" Gao Quan didn't hold back, pushing the half-pack of crackers in his hand towards the two subordinates. The two simultaneously shook their heads, not eating when they weren't hungry was common sense, these two people simply didn't have the bad habit of snacking.

  "The devils are coming!"

As the cannon fire stopped, Gao Quan threw the last biscuit into his mouth and shouted unclearly. He hugged his Type 38 rifle and rushed to the parapet. Wang Dazhu and Qian Sixi followed him and found their shooting positions on both sides of Gao Quan.

The lights flickered, and along the official road, the first to come over were two enemy tanks. Behind the tanks were groups of infantrymen. The enemy is going to challenge us to a night battle!

  "Boom! Boom!"

The shells fired by the small cannons on the enemy tanks hit the city wall, and bricks flew everywhere. The howitzers of the Second Division also started to counterattack, although the effect was not great, it was better than nothing. The tightly closed gate of Luo Wenyu was smashed into powder by several enemy shells, the enemy tank in front, infantry behind, launched a charge towards the broken city gate.

The warriors of the Second Division braved the hail of bullets from the devils, although they failed several times, and finally at the cost of more than a dozen lives, they successfully blew up two of the devil's tanks. The devil's infantry was like a daredevil team, with white cloth tied around their heads, shouting and screaming wildly, rushing out from behind the tank in a frenzy. Our soldiers welcomed the devils' arrival with rifle bullets. The firepower points at the several fortifications in front of the city gate played a huge role, inflicting heavy casualties on the swarming devils. The devil's machine guns also focused on these machine gun fortifications, constantly replenishing people inside.

The warriors and devils were engaged in a fierce battle, with Gao Quan standing on the city wall, calmly using his rifle to take aim at the devils. A short and stout devil had a strip of cloth wrapped around his head, which looked very similar to a certain type of women's sanitary product. In the middle of the cloth was a large, conspicuous blood-red scar, making it even more lifelike. The short and stout devil held a war knife in his hand, constantly turning his head to shout loudly at the devils behind him to charge forward. This suspected devil officer unfortunately caught Gao Quan's eye.

This guy's bushido spirit is clearly not resolute enough, he just shouts at others to charge forward, but he himself only stays in place swinging his battle sword, and doesn't move forward at all. The devils behind him don't know if they're lacking a screw or are too afraid of this guy, such a guy who only talks and doesn't act, yet not one devil stands up and demands that he charge to the front. The devils in the back, probably under his intimidation or threats, with their heads down, keep running forward to send themselves to death.

Gao Quan narrowed his eyes and took careful aim. The distance was a bit far, although his shooting skills were exceptional, but after all, he wasn't a professional sniper, wanting to hit that devil officer, really needed to take good aim.

  "Bang!"

A sharp crack, the short and stout ghost with a red bandage on his head and holding a knife, suddenly stopped shouting and was stunned. On the red mark in the middle of the bandage on his head, an extra hole appeared, and some unclear liquid flowed out from inside, just like a ripe tomato that had been poked by a mischievous child with chopsticks.

The abnormality of this guy was soon discovered by other devils, and immediately two devils with the same headscarf came over, supporting the already dead devil officer down. Gao Quan's rifle continued to fire from time to time, but these two guys who were supporting the short and fat officer were no longer his targets. At such a distance, it would take so much effort to shoot two insignificant followers, which was not what he wanted to do. There were plenty of devils outside the city wall, and these devils were not that far away. One by one, they charged forward with their rifles, looking silly. Even when the devils occasionally fell down to find cover, it was hard for Gao Quan to miss them. He almost didn't need to aim, and he could guarantee one shot per devil, without a single miss. It was just like shooting at moving targets during training, comfortable and enjoyable. He even had time to take out his cigarette and take a puff.

The little fat man was probably not low in the ranks of this unit, and his death obviously brought a considerable shock to the devils who were attacking. The devils no longer charged forward with as much force as they had at the beginning.

Commander Qi Guangyuan led a team of soldiers in a desperate battle against the Japanese invaders at the city gate, where hundreds of meters of official roads were piled with corpses of soldiers from both sides, and blood flowed like a small stream.

Comrade-in-arms Liu Ruming personally inspected each position, directing the soldiers to fight bravely against the enemy. When he walked over to where Wang Dazhu and Qian Sixi were, they hastily tried to stand up to salute him, but Liu Ruming quickly waved his hand to stop them. It wasn't that he really emphasized equality between officers and soldiers, it was just that they were in the middle of battle, and observing such formalities didn't make much sense. Moreover, who knew if there were any enemies on the other side with binoculars watching this way? If they saluted here, the enemy would discover that there was a high-ranking officer over here, concentrate their fire over here, or send a few snipers to aim specifically at him. If Liu Ruming accidentally got hit and died because of this, wouldn't that be unjust?

Gao Quan squinted over there, aiming his rifle outward, unmoved by the arrival of his superiors. Only when Wang Dazhu and another person stood up did he slightly turn his body to the side. After Liu Ruming stopped those two people, he immediately turned back around. Liu Ruming stood behind them, observing the combat situation of these three soldiers. He was extremely surprised by Gao Quan's accurate and calm marksmanship. In his troops, it would be hard to find a few people who could shoot like that. Even among the so-called "godly marksmen", not everyone could surpass Gao Quan. Just standing there for a short while, Gao Quan fired two shots in total, taking out two devils without missing once!
