Chapter 24 Counterattack
Gun smoke filled the sky, blocking out most of the moonlight, and wisps of brown fog drifted through the night air, as if blending with the floating clouds in the sky.
Outside the Grand Hotel, soldiers of the Second Guard Unit of the Japanese Army were everywhere. Some were wiping their rifles, others were busy writing letters to their families, and some took out family photos and gazed at them carefully, seeking a moment of peace in the midst of war.
Every time they went to the battlefield, no one knew if they could still walk back alive, so Japanese soldiers had to write a letter home before going into battle, in case they were sacrificed and the letter could be sent back home later.
In the temporary headquarters, Shima Masakazu, a lieutenant commander, furrowed his brow and looked at the map in his hand with a serious expression. The map was a topographic map of the Northeast Army's North Camp, on which a large circle had been drawn with a red pencil, and inside the circle was the brigade headquarters.
This map has been altered more than a dozen times, and the same map has also been replaced four times. Each alteration represents an attack, of course, each attack ends in failure.
A Japanese officer rushed in from outside, seeing Shimamoto Seiichi was deep in thought at the desk against the map, and hurried over, "Captain, the strong attack on the east wall of the courtyard has failed!"
"Hmm, I expected as much!" Shimamoto Masakazu calmly nodded and then looked up, "Among our opponents, there is someone who is extremely formidable. This person is familiar with special warfare tactics and excels at psychological warfare, repeatedly destroying my plans. So this time, the tragic outcome was also within expectations!"
"What's next, Captain?" This time the strong attack, all the Japanese soldiers in a small team sacrificed under the east wall, and finally did not break in, which made the Japanese commander very disappointed, he didn't know what to do next.
"For the time being, let's not launch another attack. The soldiers have already reached their limit and need a rest. Besides, according to my calculations, the First and Third Battalions will arrive soon. When they do, we'll launch a joint attack, and no matter how powerful the enemy is, they won't be able to withstand it!" Shimamoto sighed when asked by the Japanese officer, then tapped his pencil on the desk, "What a waste that such an excellent talent has to be killed..."
After several encounters with Luo Xiao, Shimoto Masakazu had a relatively deep understanding of this opponent and sincerely admired him. Originally, he still wanted to capture Luo Xiao alive and make use of him for himself, but after the battle, he dispelled this idea.
Luoxiang is too powerful. Although he's currently trapped in the Travel Department, Shimoto Masakazu still worries that if he harbors a lucky mentality, Luoxiang might ultimately escape.
There is such a terrible figure, Iijima Masakazu estimated that he and the Kanto army will not be able to sleep soundly from now on, at least one eye must be kept open.
Shimamoto shook his head, driving the idea away and secretly laughing at his own worries. He looked out at the resting soldiers and suddenly asked, "Is there any movement from the Chinese army?"
"Report to the commander-in-chief, there is not a single movement, it seems that the enemy has fallen asleep, and even the usual voices are gone!" The Japanese officer replied when asked by the commander.
Shimamoto Masakazu stroked his small mustache after listening to the report, muttering to himself, "This is strange, it's a bit unusual. After this big battle, they should be busy repairing their defenses to prevent our next attack!"
"Could it be that the enemy soldier's physical strength was exhausted and he couldn't hold on anymore?"
"No, the Chinese soldiers may not have physical strength like us, but their willpower is extremely strong, especially under the leadership of a powerful figure, they can definitely exert extraordinary strength!" Shimamoto Seiichi thought to himself, feeling that something was not quite right.
"Quiet, without a single sound—" Shimomoto Masakazu repeated the two sentences, pondering the content of his subordinate officer's account.
Suddenly, he slapped his palm on the table, causing the teacups to jump up, "Not good, the Japanese are going to launch a sneak attack!"
"What, this is impossible?" exclaimed a Japanese officer, somewhat incredulous that the people trapped in the encirclement would dare to launch a surprise attack on their besiegers.
"Pass the word, all soldiers immediately go on high alert and prepare for battle!" Shimamoto Seiichi roared, grabbing a pistol and command knife from the table and rushing out of the tent!
BOOM!
A grenade flew out of the darkness on the outskirts of the Japanese army camp and landed on a tent, then exploded. The tent was torn in half, revealing the Japanese soldiers sleeping inside.
"Charge!", the shout echoed through the night sky, Luo Xiang held a Czech-style light machine gun and led the way out of the darkness, followed by members of the special warfare team and some soldiers from the Northeast Army. On the other side of the Japanese army camp, Cheng Tianlei led the warriors of the 7th Brigade's Special Operations Battalion to charge out, rushing towards the Japanese army camp.
For a time, gunfire rang out in unison, and the night sky could only see dazzling flames flickering constantly, bullets flying wildly among the crowd.
Under the sudden attack, the Japanese soldiers in the camp were caught off guard and many of them didn't even have time to pick up their rifles before being shot dead by Luo Xiang and his men. The remaining Japanese soldiers fell into a state of chaos.
In a fierce charge, Luo Xiang and Cheng Tianlei met in the Japanese army camp and then crossed over, rushing towards one direction.
There were more than 600 people in the Japanese army camp, while Luo Xiang and Cheng Tianlei led a night raid team of only over 100 people. If they stopped, they would be surrounded by the Japanese army immediately, so they had to move at high speed to keep the Japanese from guessing their intentions, in order to achieve greater results.
Cheng Tianlei held a large chopper in one hand and a shotgun in the other, shouting at Luo Xiang as he walked away, "Luo Xiang, you go blow up the enemy's artillery position, I'll take care of their command center!"
"Understood!" Luo Xiang replied from afar, then led the men and disappeared into the Japanese military camp illuminated by the flames.
Cheng Tianlei opened his big mouth and shouted at those special agent soldiers, "Brothers, follow me!"
The Japanese army's camp arrangement was with the command center in the middle, surrounded by soldiers' tents, and it was easy for Tianlei to find the command center.
He was still far from the command post when he saw a Japanese military officer emerging from within, with a rank of lieutenant colonel on his epaulette, holding a gun in one hand and a sword in the other, definitely a high-ranking official!
"Give me the gun!" Cheng Tianlei inserted the revolver into his waistband, snatched a rifle from a soldier beside him, and aimed at the officer not far away with one hand!
Bang!
Along with the crisp sound of the 38 pistol, that Japanese officer fell to the ground with a thud, as if he had been hit.
Cheng Tianlei excitedly threw his rifle to the soldier, pulled out a pistol and waved it forward, "Charge! Destroy the enemy's command center!"
Behind them, the warriors shouted and rushed towards the command center and Islandamoto Seiichi who had fallen to the ground!
