Chapter 26: Embarrassed
"Captain, you're awake!"
Shimamoto Masakazu slowly opened his eyes, and everything in front of him began to clear up from being blurry, finally seeing the familiar faces clearly.
Those around him were all commanders of the second battalion of the Independent Guard Brigade, except for a few who had died in battle, and all the rest came, even several wounded company commanders came with crutches and stretchers.
He looked around at his subordinates, who were all frantic, and gradually regained his composure. He also recalled some of the events that had just occurred.
The Northeast Army in the Ministry of War suddenly launched a surprise attack, and he rushed out of the command post, planning to gather his troops and launch a counterattack against the enemy. However, as soon as he stepped out of the door of the command post, he was hit by an enemy sniper, and then everything went black before he passed out.
As for what happened later, he had no idea!
He slightly bowed his head from the stretcher, and Shimamoto Masakazu originally wanted to sit up, but as soon as he moved, a piercing pain came from under his ribs, and that feeling made him groan.
"Commander, you've broken two ribs, the medic says you can't engage in strenuous activity anymore!" Several officers hurriedly dissuaded him, hoping he could lie stably on the stretcher and get some rest.
"Get out of the way!"
Shimamoto Masakazu scolded, pushed away the two Chu-dai who wanted to support him, gritted his teeth and slowly sat up from the stretcher, then got down and stood beside the table.
Although these actions are nothing unusual, after he finished, his forehead was already dripping with sweat, as if he had just washed his face.
The surrounding Japanese military commanders all gazed at this battalion commander, known for his iron-blooded reputation, with eyes filled with reverence and admiration.
"Quickly bring a towel!" A Japanese officer came to his senses, shouting loudly towards the outside, and had an orderly bring in a wet towel.
He took the towel and gently wiped his head, then lifted both hands to fasten the unbuttoned collar of his uniform before standing up straight and scanning the room with a stern gaze.
"We are all soldiers of the Great Empire of Japan. When we know that a soldier must be single-mindedly devoted to public duty, and die without regret, for the honor of the Empire of Japan, for the future of the Yamato people, even if it means sacrificing our own lives, we must do so!"
His clear and cold voice echoed in the house, no one spoke, everyone leaned their ears to listen to the captain's teachings!
"This time the Northeast Army's Seventh Brigade, which was stationed in Beidaying, the entire personnel of the Second Battalion bravely advanced forward, fearless of death, and their spirit is truly worthy of praise!"
All Japanese officers immediately stood at attention with both feet together and replied in unison, "Loyal service to His Majesty the Emperor, fighting for the Yamato people!"
"Good, this is a true warrior!" Shimomoto Masakazu nodded in satisfaction and waved his hand. "You all go out first, I need to think carefully about the next battle deployment!"
The Japanese officers responded in unison and then withdrew!
After the officers under his command withdrew, Shimoto Masakazu finally let out a sigh of relief and slowly sat down in his chair, taking over a minute to do so.
He let out a long sigh as he sat down on the chair, earlier every movement made him feel like countless files were scraping against his ribs, the feeling was so intense that it almost made him want to scream!
But he didn't have time for these thoughts anymore, because now there was a more serious problem waiting for him, that is the question of where the second team went!
The attack began at 10:30 pm, and the Second Battalion had been fighting for ten hours by then. It was already 8 am, although most of the Beiyuan Barracks had been taken, the core Travel Department building remained under the control of the Northeast Army. As for those warehouses, the Japanese troops who searched them found that they were empty, and even if there were some leftovers, they were all destroyed and became useless waste!
This means that his second battalion, having lost nearly half a battalion, had nothing to show for it except the occupation of an empty barracks.
Shimamoto Masakazu felt increasingly irritated, and the fractured ribs under his chest ached in waves!
What should I do? What can be done about it?
…………
Unlike Shima Motoichi, Luo Xiao is in a good mood now. He launched a surprise attack on the devils and also destroyed their artillery battalion, eliminating the greatest threat to the brigade's headquarters. This result makes people happy.
If you count the wind and distance, their Tiger Tooth Special Warfare Battalion's First Special Warfare Company and Second Special Warfare Company have already taken care of two large reinforcements from the Japanese army.
Cheng Tianlei saw Luo Xiang's excited face and curiously asked, "Luo Xiang, what's making you so happy? Tell me, let me share in your joy!"
Luo Xiang intentionally made a mysterious expression, then said, "I won't tell you for now, I reckon it won't be long before you find out the result!"
Luo Xiang refused to tell him what was going on, and Cheng Tianlei couldn't help but mutter to himself as he walked away, "What's so mysterious about this? If you don't want to say it, then don't. I'll find out sooner or later!"
Lu Xiang was amused by Cheng Tian's angry expression!
Suddenly, Jiang Dahai, who was in charge of observation, shouted from the roof of the combat room of the Travel Department, "Commander, look! The devils seem to be pressing up on all fronts!"
"What?!"
Luo Xiang rushed to the bunker, grabbed the binoculars on top and looked out at the entrance of the brigade headquarters. He saw Japanese soldiers packed tightly together, filling the entire open space outside the entrance, each holding a rifle and advancing towards the gate!
Hundreds of people charged forward together, but not a single person could be heard speaking in the crowd. Everyone had their mouths tightly shut and were rushing forward with their heads down, the weight of which was suffocating to the point of unbearable pain!
Luo Xiang held up the binoculars and looked at the crowd for a moment, then the binoculars extended to the rear of the crowd and stopped in the Japanese army's camp for a while before putting down the binoculars.
Cheng Tianlei dragged a machine gun to Luo Xiao's side, lay down and said, "Luo Xiao, this little devil is really stubborn, the commander is dead but they can still launch such a large-scale attack, it's really eating iron!"
Luo Xiang shook his head and said, "No, although the Japanese army launched a comprehensive attack, it seems that in the Japanese military camp, they are packing up their luggage, and some supplies have already been loaded onto vehicles. It looks like they're planning to retreat, so if I'm not mistaken, the devils are going to run away!"
"Escaped, how could that be?" Cheng Tianlei heard and shook his head like a rattle drum, "Now the devils have the upper hand, surrounding us in this desolate place. Unless their brains are burned to a crisp, they won't retreat!"
"The devils won't retreat, have their brains been burned rotten?!" Luo Xiang didn't know if he was praising the devils or mocking them, but either way it wasn't a good thing to say. "Shimamoto Seiichi is not dead at all, with his intelligence he should be able to guess his current situation, so retreating is his best choice!"
Lu Xiang said that Shimamoto Seiichi was not dead, and Cheng Lei snatched the binoculars from the person next to him, looking at the opposite side. As a result, he also saw Shimamoto Seiichi sitting upright on his war horse in the Japanese army camp on the opposite side. "It's really strange, I clearly hit him with one shot, how come he didn't die!"
