Chapter 18: Burning Fish

  Insufficient balance

After Mo Sheng finished playing the tune, Xiang Ling asked from his chest: "Husband, what's this song called and why is it so beautiful?" Looking at the person in his chest, Mo Sheng said: "This song is called 'The Story of Love'".

"Mr. Xiao, this name is quite fitting, I wonder what instrument Mr. Xiao plays."

Musheng handed a bamboo leaf to Xiangling, and Xiangling saw that her husband had brought over a piece of bamboo leaf, and asked in disbelief: "Husband, could it be that you played with this bamboo leaf?"

"Mm-hmm." Mu Sheng responded lightly, while pulling Xiang Ling into a hug. Seeing Mu Sheng like this, Xiang Ling leaned in closer to him, and at the same time thought to herself that her husband shouldn't be a simple person, she always felt that he was full of mystery, and didn't know what surprises he would bring to her next, Xiang Ling's heart was filled with anticipation.

The two of them hugged each other, watching the painting boat gradually disappear in the distance. The sun in the sky also began to set in the west. Feeling that it was time to go back, Muyi woke up Xiangling in his arms and said, "Linger, we should head back."

Xiang Ling left Mu Sheng's arms and they both stood up. Mu Sheng said to Xiang Ling, "Ling'er, we can't go back empty-handed!"

"What is Master preparing to bring back?" Xiang Ling said with a smile.

"Look, Ling'er!" said Mu Sheng, picking up a long and thin wooden stick from the ground. He walked to the stone steps by the lake shore, his eyes fixed on the water surface. Suddenly, he used his internal force to thrust the wooden stick into the water. In the blink of an eye, the stick shot into the water at high speed. The next moment, the stick floated back up to the water surface with a big yellow fish stuck on one end. Mu Sheng pulled the stick out of the water and used a piece of grass to tie a thin rope around the fish.

Xiang Ling also walked over and saw Mu Sheng had caught a fish. She exclaimed in surprise: "Husband, you're so amazing."

Musheng chuckled and said: "Ling'er, let's go home!" He hugged Xiangling, and the two walked towards their home.

Back home, Grandpa and Xiaolu were chatting happily. Muyi and Xiangling didn't disturb them and went straight to the kitchen. Xiangling lit the stove and started cooking, while Muyi cleaned the fish.

It was almost evening when the dishes were finally ready. The fish caught by Muo Sheng was made into two dishes, one was fish soup and the other was braised red fish.

Xiao Lü originally wanted to come over and help, but was persuaded by Xiang Ling to stay behind, so she continued chatting with the old man. After the dishes were cooked, Mu Sheng and Xiang Ling carried them to the table.

Four people were about to start eating, when Wen Hao walked in from outside. Seeing Xiang Ling sitting at the table, Wen Hao was initially startled, but quickly covered it up. Upon seeing Wen Hao arrive, Mu Sheng said: "Wen Hao, you haven't had dinner yet, have you? Come sit down and eat together."

"In that case, I won't be polite, Brother Mo." Wen Hao said with a chuckle.

"Don't be polite, it's just like home here. Let me introduce you, this is Grandpa, this is your elder sister-in-law, and as for this lovely little girl, her name is Little Green." Mu Sheng said with a smile.

"Wen Hao paid his respects and said: 'Wen Hao has seen Grandfather, Auntie, and Little Green Girl'."

After some casual conversation, they can be considered familiar with each other. Wen Hao took a piece of roasted fish and put it in his mouth, and couldn't help but praise: "Sister-in-law's craftsmanship is really good, this fish is really delicious."

Xiang Ling smiled and said: "Wen Hao has indeed promoted me, this fish was cooked by your elder brother."

Wen Hao looked at Mu Sheng in surprise and said: "Brother Mu, I really admire you more and more."

"Whether you admire it or not, just eat your meal, eat your meal."

"Right, such a delicious dish would be a waste if we didn't eat it," said Wen Hao, quickly picking up the grilled fish and eating it. At this point, he no longer cared about his image. Xiao Lu also let go of her inhibitions, thinking "if I don't eat now, Young Master Wen Hao will finish it all."

The old man saw Wen Hao and Xiao Lü's hands moving rapidly on the table, watching as the fish continued to decrease in number. In his heart, he was filled with hatred! He had grown old, his hands and feet were no longer agile, and he couldn't compete with these young people. So he said loudly: "Be more refined, be more refined, don't you know that young people should yield?"

Wen Hao and Xiao Lü exchanged a glance, ignoring the old man. Seeing that his words were ineffective, the old man resorted to drastic measures and directly took away the remaining roasted fish. This shameless move made Wen Hao and Xiao Lü look at each other in disdain. Seeing that the old man had taken the fish, the two began to fight over the fish soup.

Mu Sheng looked at the old and young people fighting for food and soup, and involuntarily shook his head. He exchanged a glance with Xiang Ling, and both of them smiled slightly.

After finishing the meal, Xiangling and Xiaolu cleaned up the bowls and chopsticks. Muyang and Wenhao walked to the backyard, where Wenhao said: "Brother Mu, sister-in-law's face..."

Musheng interrupted Wen Hao's words and said: "Wen Hao, I know what you want to say, but I ask you, what is the purpose of marrying a wife?"

"Of course it's the one who marries her." Wen Hao replied succinctly.

"Your answer is not accurate enough," said Mu Sheng, shaking his head. "When you marry a wife, you are marrying her heart, not her person. Her person will change with the passage of time, but her heart will remain young forever."

Wen Hao said with a seemingly understanding tone: "Mu Ge, I think I seem to understand something."

Musheng saw Wen Hao's thoughtful expression and said: "You'll understand if you think about it for a while, but it seems like you're here for something today!"

Wen Hao smiled and said: "Nothing can escape the eyes of Mu Ge, my sister asked me to tell you that she wants you to go over tomorrow, it seems like she has something to discuss with you."

"I know this already, is there anything else?" Murong said.

"It's gone, Brother Mu. I'm going back now. Next time you're cooking fish, remember to get Xiaosan to notify me." Wen Hao said with a chuckle.

"Alright, I won't forget to burn fish for you. Be careful on the road." Murong said, looking at the gradually disappearing figure, muttering to himself: "I wonder what Big Sister wants with me."

The next morning, after breakfast, Mu Sheng came to the Zhao residence from the backyard. Xiao Die saw Mu Sheng arrive and said: "Young Master Mu, the young lady has been waiting for you in her room for a long time, please follow me!"

Mo Sheng followed Xiao Die through several corridors and buildings, arriving at a two-story pavilion. The pavilion was exquisitely crafted yet elegant, and when they reached the foot of the wooden stairs, Xiao Die stopped and said: "Young Master Mo, the young lady is upstairs; you may go up now."

When Xiaodie said that, Mosheng walked slowly up the stairs and came to the door. After knocking a few times, he heard "come in!" from inside. The voice sounded so sorrowful, although he was puzzled in his heart, but he still pushed open the door.

What greeted her was a refreshing fragrance. At a glance, she saw that the eldest young lady was sitting under the mosquito net, but at this moment, the eldest young lady looked much thinner, with a pair of red eyes, obviously having cried.

After taking a look around, Mu Sheng estimated that this should be the eldest sister's boudoir. He walked up to the eldest sister and looked at her red-rimmed eyes, while she also stared at him with an expression of resentment and grievance. Mu Sheng couldn't bear the eldest sister's gaze, so he had to speak first: "Xin Ya, what do you want from me?"

"It's nothing and you can't find me!" The young lady said angrily.

Musheng doesn't know what to say now, the young lady seems to be in a bad mood, but he didn't do anything to make her angry! Musheng is very puzzled, but it's better not to provoke her, it seems that keeping quiet is the best choice.

The older sister saw that Mu Sheng wasn't speaking, so she asked: "Why do you want to get married?" As she said this, the older sister's gaze seemed like it could swallow Mu Sheng whole. However, in his heart, Mu Sheng muttered: "This question is being asked by someone who doesn't even want to get married themselves! But things don't go as one wishes, and besides, why are you concerned with these matters, Older Sister?"

The young lady saw Mu Sheng and didn't make a sound, thinking about the grievances she had suffered recently, so she unconsciously burst into tears. Mu Sheng saw the young lady crying and thought to himself "it seems I've made another mistake", looking at the young lady with tears streaming down her face, Mu Sheng said gruffly: "That, Xinye, this is all my fault, don't cry anymore, okay?"

"I'll cry if I want to, it's none of your business." The young lady said stubbornly.

Mo Sheng fell silent, fearing that his clumsy mouth would only make things worse the more he spoke. Silence is golden! Mo Sheng sighed.

After a while, perhaps the young lady cried herself to exhaustion and opened her tear-stained eyes to look at Mu Sheng, seeing him sitting with his head down in the chair. This fool, the young lady sighed, it seems that relying on this stupid goose is not going to work. However, now is not the time, so she said to Mu Sheng: "Mu Sheng, why do you think the Chamber of Commerce has not made a move recently."

Musheng saw that the big sister was no longer entangled in the previous matter, and he let out a sigh of relief. After thinking for a moment, he said: "The Chamber of Commerce is probably digesting the family business that merged in the past period of time. There's no integration without a period of time, so they shouldn't take any action for the time being. However, after the New Year, they will probably take some action."

"So what should we do?" asked the young lady, looking at Mu Sheng.

Mo Sheng didn't intend to tell the young lady about the black-clad man's affairs, as that would only add to her worries. Considering she was a woman who had to support a family business on her own, it wasn't easy for her either. So Mo Sheng said: "For now, we can only take things one step at a time, because there are still many uncertain factors that we don't know about."

"Then, Mu Sheng, if the Zhao family encounters any difficulties, will you help me?" The young lady looked at Mu Sheng with expectation.

"Whatever it is, I'll always stand by your side." Musheng said firmly.

"Thank you, Mù Shēng, you go back first! If there's anything, I'll get Xiǎo Sān to inform you."

"I'll go first," said Mu Sheng, and then he walked downstairs. Watching Mu Sheng's departing figure, the young lady felt a pang of sadness in her heart.
