  Regarding the origin of "Lan Que Wei", the current popular saying is that during the Qianlong period, Wang Zongyue was teaching at a martial arts school in Henan, where he exchanged fist techniques with the three Chen brothers from Chenjiagou: Chen Bingwang, Chen Bingren and Chen Bingqi. At that time, Wang Zongyue practiced the Yin Fu Gun Decisive, performing the killing move "Peacock Spreads its Tail", which no one could defend against. The young Yang Luchan watched this with his own eyes, and afterwards thought about how to break it down, because "Peacock Spreads its Tail" was an absolute killing gun technique that imitated the intention of the peacock scattering its tail, the king of the hundred birds in the Yu step.   What does "taking Kan to fill Li" mean? The Taoist classic "Xingming Guizhi" describes it as: "The sage uses his mind as the Yellow Maiden, leading the Yellow Boy into the inner Kan, and matching him with the Mysterious Woman in the middle of Li. When husband and wife unite, they immediately transform into pure Qian, which is called taking Kan to fill Li, restoring my original prenatal body." Therefore, the "Wu Zhen Pian" says: "Taking the true heart from within Kan, transforming the yin within the palace of Li, this is the correct meaning."

  Dào Cháng's statement is: Yang Luchan was only able to achieve the state of "taking Kan and filling Li" after he had already become a mature artist. He then applied "taking Kan and filling Li" to his fist method, naming it "Lǎn Què Wěi", and used this as the mother fist of Yang-style Taiji Fist.

  The name "揽雀尾" is very interesting. When sparrows take off, they only push their legs and flap their wings, but do not open their tails. Although the wings and tail are close, they are actually quite different. In a sparrow's lifetime, there is only one situation where it will truly open its tail, that is **. "揽雀尾" is actually a colloquial way of saying "取坎填离".
