Chapter Thirty-One: The Detestable Woman
Looking at the village chief's kind eyes, he thought about the problems they were facing. Zhao Fei could only helplessly nod his head. Although he was stubborn, he wasn't stupid and wouldn't persist in something that was clearly impossible.
Looking at Zhao Fei's appearance, the village chief nodded in relief. "If you can pick it up, you must put it down. With your qualifications, the teacher believes that you will have a moment of excellence."
"I understand, teacher." Zhao Fei nodded solemnly.
"It's just fine." The village chief stroked his beard. "Alright, go inside and read books." After finishing speaking, the village chief turned around and walked into the house, Zhao Fei also followed him in.
Time flies, and the morning is over. "Alright, let's stop here for today." The village chief put down the book in his hand and said to Zhao Fei. The village chief was somewhat dissatisfied with Zhao Fei, so his tone was a bit heavy. Because Zhao Fei had been absent-minded all morning, although there were some special circumstances, the village chief was still very displeased.
Realizing that the village chief might be angry, Zhao Fei hastily stood up. "I've let Teacher down. The student knows his mistake."
"Never mind, it's nothing. You can go back first." The village chief waved his hand, indicating that Zhao Fei should leave.
The student left first. Seeing that the village chief didn't say anything and had a firm attitude, Zhao Fei could only leave reluctantly.
Watching Zhao Fei's departing back, the village chief showed a hint of helplessness. Although Zhao Fei was very intelligent, he still lacked experience and his heart was not yet settled. He would be affected by external things, influencing his mood and wisdom. Let it be for now, Little Fei is still young.
Just as the village chief was worried about Zhao Fei, Zhao Fei himself was also blaming himself. He had intended to forget, but Zhang Xue's beautiful figure kept flashing in his mind. It made him distracted even when reading books. He shook his head and sighed repeatedly. Unknowingly sighing at what. "Sigh... Forget it, I'll go eat first, then go to Feng Ge's place."
After finishing his meal in a daze, Zhao Fei headed towards Zhao Feng's home.
Arriving at Zhao Feng's courtyard, he found the door to his house tightly closed. "Feng brother, are you there?" Zhao Fei called out, but no one replied. "Hmm? Where could Feng brother be at this time?" Zhao Fei was a bit puzzled. In the past, Zhao Feng would always be home waiting for him at this hour, so why wasn't he here today? "Right, Feng brother doesn't know I'm back yet, maybe he went out. Why don't I go look for him and take a walk to clear my head?" With his mind made up, Zhao Fei turned around and headed towards the outskirts of the village.
Arriving at the big tree at the entrance of the village, he didn't see Zhao Feng's figure. "Not here, where can Brother Wind go? Could it be that he went hunting?" Helplessly, Zhao Fei could only continue walking outwards. Walking aimlessly on the rural roads, looking around, all around were green wheat fields. As autumn was approaching, each grain had a big ear of wheat. After turning for a while, Zhao Fei still didn't see Zhao Feng, "Don't know where Brother Wind went either. Forget it, first go to my own field to take a look, and also go see Father." Standing by the road, Zhao Fei muttered to himself. Then he relied on his memory to find his family's fields.
According to memory, Zhao Fei found his own field, but did not find his father Zhao Hu. "Dad came out after lunch, why didn't I see Dad's shadow? Did I remember wrong?" Zhao Fei looked around and still couldn't find Zhao Hu. "It seems that I really remembered it wrong." Zhao Fei shook his head and decided to go home. Suddenly turning his head, he found a figure working in the distance who seemed to be his father. With a try-on mindset, Zhao Fei walked towards the figure.
Zhao Fei walked slowly over and found that it was indeed his father working somewhere. However, in his impression, this wasn't their own field. "Dad, you're busy?" Looking at Zhao Hu who was working hard, Zhao Fei felt a pang of heartache. The sun was still scorching hot, the earth was being baked to a slight burn, and even the plants were wilting. Zhao Hu's sweat dripped down his face one drop at a time onto the ground. Hearing someone call him, Zhao Hu turned his head to look over and found Zhao Fei standing behind him.
"Little Fei, how did you get here?" Zhao Hu stood up and patted the dirt off his hands. Zhao Fei quickly helped his father who was about to stand up. "I went to Feng Ge's place, but he wasn't home, so I thought of coming out to look for him. But I couldn't find him, so I came here to see you." After helping Zhao Hu up, Zhao Fei looked around and asked in a puzzled tone, "Dad, this doesn't seem like our land, does it?"
"That's right, this is your Uncle Zhang's land. Your uncle has something to do, so he asked me to come and help out." Zhao Hu wiped the sweat from his forehead and said to Zhao Fei.
"Oh." Zhao Fei thought back to things about Cai Shu in his heart.
"Dad, aren't you tired? Let me help you." With that, Zhao Fei squatted down on the ground and started working.
Zhao Hu hurriedly pulled Zhao Fei, "Dad is fine, but you, stop it. What if you faint again, that would be bad."
"Don't worry, Dad, I'm fine now. That kind of thing won't happen again, my body is much better now."
"Zhao Hu, what are you doing there? Hurry up and get to work." Just as Zhao Fei and his son were making excuses, a sharp voice came from the side. The voice pierced Zhao Fei's ears painfully. Zhao Fei turned his head to look at the source of the sound. He saw a typical rural woman standing with her hands on her hips, staring at the two of them. Zhao Fei felt that this woman had all the characteristics of a shrew from modern TV dramas - she was short and fat, with a fierce expression on her face. It was hard for him to imagine how someone could be so fat in ancient times when conditions were so poor. A cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
"It's like this, my family's A Fei has come to see me." As he said that, he pulled on Zhao Fei's sleeve again. "Come, Little Fei, call her Auntie."
"Auntie." Looking at the peasant woman's expression, Zhao Fei was extremely dissatisfied. But with his father by his side, he couldn't go against his father's wishes, so he reluctantly called out to her.
"Hey! This is your son, huh?" Hearing Zhao Hu say this, the woman glanced at Zhao Fei. "Looks like he's not as sickly as I thought." The woman's tone was filled with disdain. "Alright, you've seen him, now go back to work!" With that, the woman turned around and walked away, her large buttocks swaying behind her.
Looking at the woman's expression, looking at the way she left, Zhao Fei had a mind to beat her up. If he didn't think that his small arms and legs couldn't withstand the weight of over 100 pounds of the woman, Zhao Fei would have kicked her far away like a flying kick. After seeing the woman walk far away, Zhao Fei hastily asked his father: "Dad, who is this person?"
"This is your Uncle Zhao's wife." Zhao Hu didn't pay attention to Zhao Fei's expression, but instead started the farm work after the woman left.
"How can she do this, it's as if we are her family servants." Zhao Fei said indignantly. His words also contained some resentment towards his own father, so his tone was somewhat heavy.
"It's okay, your aunt is just like that, she speaks with a bit of an attitude. Actually, she's a good person." Zhao Hu heard the tone in Zhao Fei's voice was somewhat heavy, so he quickly explained to Zhao Fei.
"She can't be like that, look at her eyes, it's clear she's just a servant. Zhao Fei was still very indignant. But looking at his honest father, Zhao Fei didn't know what to say. He had complaints in his heart, but there was nothing he could do."
"Never mind, Little Fei. We're from the same village. Helping each other out is nothing to worry about. Don't take it to heart. If there's nothing else, you can head back first. This sun is scorching hot, and if you're not careful, you'll pass out." Zhao Hu understood what Zhao Fei meant, but being a straightforward and honest person, he didn't say much more. He also didn't think ill of the other person.
But Zhao Fei didn't think so. This small matter had already become a thorn in his heart. He felt a hint of resentment towards the woman and even Zhao Cai, whom he hadn't seen before.
"I'll stay behind to help your dad." Seeing Zhao Hu busy at work, Zhao Fei felt a pang of sympathy and insisted on staying behind to lend a hand.
"Never mind, go back. What if your mother finds out and scolds me again? Besides, she'll worry too." Seeing Zhao Fei insisting on staying, Zhao Hu was resolute in not agreeing, and could only bring up Li Shi's words to persuade him. But indeed, Li Shi's words were more effective than Zhao Hu's.
After hearing his father say that, Zhao Fei could only withdraw. He stood up and said: "Okay Dad, then I'll go back first. You should also head back early."
"Got it, don't worry." Zhao Hu also didn't raise his head, casually responding.
Having obtained his father's permission, Zhao Fei turned back to the village.
