Chapter 4: Yang Fengs Ambition

  Chapter 4: Yang Feng's Ambition

Yang Wenbin is a middle school teacher, the ancestral house has only four people in the family, and he has always wanted to rent out a few rooms, but hasn't found a trustworthy tenant until now with Yang Feng.

He didn't want to take money at first, anyway Yang Feng was alone and had saved his daughter, so talking about money would hurt their feelings.

However, Yang Feng thought differently. Staying for three to five days is no big deal, but if it's frequent, not paying a dime won't do.

Three rooms in a western-style house, rent is five dollars per month.

"Big brother, this is not right. What's the difference between this and not taking my money?" Yang Feng said discontentedly. After one meal, the two had already become like brothers, anyway they shared the same surname Yang. Although Yang Wenbin looked older, he was actually only ten years older than Yang Feng.

"Brother, you misunderstood. The rent in Beiping is this expensive because of the many refugees from Northeast China, so it has risen a lot. Our house is a bit out of the way, even if we rent the whole courtyard, it's only twenty or thirty yuan." Yang Wenbin's wife said with a smile.

  Yang Feng finally understood.

After dinner, Yang's mother and daughter went to clean up the room, while Yang Feng and Yang Wenbin sat in the living room drinking tea, and the two gradually started discussing current affairs.

"The Japanese wolfish ambition is now well-known to all, first in the Northeast and then in Guannei. Tanaka's memorial has already drawn a clear route for them, and they are taking steps to move forward. It's laughable that our government still buries its head like an ostrich, pretending not to see!" Yang Wenbin said with a cold smile.

"What's the use of pretending not to see? Are we going to rely on the Northeast Army and the Japanese to fight to the death? That's simply impossible."

"When the Japanese attacked Jinzhou, didn't Chiang Kai-shek stop Zhang from fighting? Didn't he flee in fear? A man who doesn't even dare to avenge his own father's death, and is willing to abandon his own hometown, you still expect him to stand up straight?" Yang Feng said disdainfully.

"Zhang Xiaozong won't fight the Japanese, because he's very clear that if he exhausts the Northeast Army, he'll become a dog who has to look up to others. With these several hundred thousand Northeast soldiers in hand, no matter where he is, he can still live a life of luxury and pleasure! As for the country and nation, it's none of his business!" Yang Feng continued to say.

"Then according to what you said, brother, if the Japanese really attack North China, will the Northeast Army still flee without a fight?" Yang Wenbin said anxiously.

"He doesn't care about being stabbed in the back, but those Northeastern Army generals with a backbone won't stand for it. The Northwestern Army remnants who have nowhere else to go also won't give up their last foothold. Chiang Kai-shek won't let Zhang Xueliang yield North China again and face the Japanese directly. To keep this buffer zone, even if he has to deploy his own troops, he won't let the Japanese cross the Great Wall. As for Rehe, forget about it - the Japanese won't give up without gaining something from their efforts." Yang Feng said.

"When can we Chinese put aside our internal strife and unite as one against the outside world?" Yang Wenbin sighed.

Yang Feng curled his lip, what's it to me? I'm just a free rider, taking advantage of the opportunity to make some money, but if you put it that way, helping out is also possible. The problem is, we have the heart but not the strength!

I'd be willing to provide them with some AK47s, RPG rocket launchers and whatnot, but the problem is we don't have the money. Even if we did, there's nowhere to buy that stuff. Maybe we could try finding those small ads for homemade explosives, but that's not very useful either. And if things go wrong, we might even end up getting ourselves killed.

Back in his own room, Yang Feng lay on the bed thinking about this issue. If he didn't help at all, it would indeed be difficult to clear his conscience. Thinking of those Northwestern Army soldiers who took up big knives to chop Japanese people, he couldn't help but let out a sigh - what kind of situation had they been forced into that they had to resort to such tactics?

Even a fool knows that one person with a big chopper is definitely not as useful as one person with a submachine gun. All they know is to chop the devils' heads, but who knows that out of the 500 people who went, only a few dozen came back alive?

However, no matter how hard he thought about it, he still didn't have any ideas. He was just a small peddler at the bottom of society, with neither money nor connections. Although he had somehow managed to get his hands on a mysterious tricycle that could travel through time and space, the problem was that it was too small, and besides, he had to wait a whole week after each trip.

After all, it's just about helping those poor Northwest Army guys with some medical supplies and stuff, and that's only after I've earned the money myself.

As for others, it's expected that they can't rely on anything else besides their own electric tricycle's carrying capacity.

Never mind! The Great Wall will still be there in three months. With this thought, Yang Feng was able to sleep soundly.

"Uncle, you're up!" The little girl said with a red face to Yang Feng who was washing his face by the well on the second morning.

This title made him a bit depressed, the little girl was seventeen years old and had just entered Tsinghua University, a spoiled daughter of heaven! For Yang Feng, who graduated from a third-rate university, she was like a goddess.

"Are you going to school today?" Yang Feng asked. Yesterday was Sunday, and it's normal for students to go out and parade on a day off, so I don't think they would cancel classes to go out and parade.

  "Uh-huh!" The little girl nodded.

"I'll take you there! And I can sell some snacks on the way!" Yang Feng said, as the university entrance was a great place to sell small eats.

"Uh-huh!" The little girl nodded again with a red face.

After having breakfast, the electric tricycle took Yang Jing straight to Tsinghua University. As soon as they arrived at the gate, a car horn sounded behind them. Yang Feng turned his head and saw an old Ford with a greasy-faced young man inside, who had a melancholy air about him that was reminiscent of a wet person.

"Yang Jing, I heard that Liu Xiner was injured yesterday, is it true? What are you girls doing getting involved in that commotion! National affairs don't need us to worry about them, besides, this can easily cause misunderstandings with other countries." Little White Face said gently.

"What's with you and Ni Ma, are you friends or something?" Yang Feng asked bluntly.

"What are you? Do you have the right to speak here?" Little White Face said coldly with a sinking expression.

As soon as he finished speaking, a loud crash was heard from the back, and the whole car suddenly slid forward. Xiao Bai's face turned pale with fright, and she let out a sharp cry that was pitiful to hear.

An equally old black Mercedes crashed into the rear of the Ford, inside which Liu Xin'er, with a bandage still wrapped around her head, glared fiercely at Xiaobai's face. The middle-aged driver continued to step on the accelerator indifferently until he rammed the Ford into the wall in front.

Liu Xiner loudly opened the door, didn't even glance at Xiao Bailian, and walked to Yang Feng's side with a smile, then bowed: "Hello, Brother Yang!"

  Yang Feng smiled and nodded.

"If he dares to bother you, I'll get someone to beat him up!" Liu Xiner said, pulling Yang Jing into the school.

Yang Feng shrugged his shoulders and looked at the small white face with a very innocent expression.
