Chapter Six Analysis
A pair of large hands suddenly pulled him up, and the face that appeared before his eyes was Wang Wu's face with blood and fire scars. The man hugged Xu Yifan: "Brother! Thanks to you this time!"
Xu Yifan struggled to push away the overly enthusiastic Wang Wu, jokingly saying "A bloody and smelly man like him? No way I'd let him hug me." On the side, he finally calmed down a bit and bitterly smiled: "It's too early to say that, there are still so many bandits. They haven't planned on retreating yet."
Wang Wu grabbed him: "Come down and take a break! Let's think about it again, how to get through this pass! After tonight, if we save our friend, my life will be yours!"
The fierce battle just now was brief and cruel. Thousands of horse thieves suddenly appeared out of nowhere and attacked the convoy. Originally, they planned to charge in with one drumbeat. As a result, Dasheng Kui and Hui You had made some arrangements beforehand, and later, under Xu Yifan's command, they concentrated their firepower and repelled them. The horse thieves left behind more than 100 corpses, while Hui You and Dasheng Kui also suffered casualties of 20-30 people.
Xu Yifan sat on a mat, shaking his hands as he drank water. He couldn't believe that he had just been so clear-headed and successfully commanded earlier. After the excitement passed, his whole body felt sore and aching.
Hui You and Da Sheng Kui's men were busy dragging the corpses, and bandaging the wounded. Everyone looked at Xu Yifan with a few more points of reverence in their eyes. Who didn't know that if it weren't for this mysterious little lama directing them to set up vehicle defenses and commanding firepower at critical moments, they would all be dead souls under the bandits' knives!
However, no one was excited yet. The horse thieves of the cavalry were still surrounding the convoy on all sides, and fires were lit one after another. From time to time, there were sporadic gunshots passing by. This night was still extremely long.
Wang Wu and Han Zhuanggui looked around in all directions, their faces heavy with concern, before walking over. Seeing Xu Yifan sitting there in a daze, the old man Han Zhuanggui hastened to step forward and bowed deeply: "Mr. Xu, we owe you one tonight. After tonight, our Great Shengkui will surely express its gratitude again. We hope that sir will continue to offer guidance."
Xu Yifan slowly stood up, bitterly smiling and returned a courtesy: "Old Master Han, we're all on the same boat, no need to thank me. Let's think of a way to get through this first."
Wang Wu sighed behind the Korean shopkeeper: "Yes, there are thousands of horse thieves outside. It must be a dozen or so culprits gathering together. Once they discuss it, they will charge again. Our bullets have been fired halfway. Old shopkeeper, we need to think of a way!"
"What's the solution? Seeking help is also hopeless. It takes two days to get to Wu Chuan from here. The patrol team in Wu Chuan, even if they knew, would dare to come and deal with these horse thieves? They have set their sights on our Dashenggui!"
Wang Wu had just been slightly injured in the battle and was covered in blood. When he heard what Old Man Han said, even a hero like him felt a bit short of breath. He couldn't help but let out a sigh. Xu Yifan felt depressed upon hearing this - earlier, he had risked his life to fight, could it be that he still wouldn't be able to escape death? There must be a way, there definitely was a way! He hadn't traveled through time and space to this era just to die under the bandits' guns!
Wang Wu beckoned to Xu Yifan with a wave of his hand, and when he turned around, he saw the little beauty being called over. The little beauty's body was tightly wrapped in her large coat, making her waist look even slimmer than usual. Her pretty face was also tense, and her big eyes kept darting towards Xu Yifan, looking at him for a moment before quickly lowering her head. She held a willow-leaf single knife in her hand, which she gripped so tightly that it seemed to be sweating.
Wang Wu asked in a low voice: "How is Mrs. Si?"
The little beauty pouted: "Men cry to their fathers and mothers, while women are all chanting Buddhist scriptures. Fourth Aunt said that if we can drive away the horse thieves, our friends will be heavily rewarded." Wang Wu nodded: "Second Ya, take care of Fourth Aunt and the others. Don't rush forward."
The little beauty widened her eyes: "But my brother and they are all in... I am also a friend..."
Wang Wu glared at her: "Don't play this childish temper with me now! This is a matter for us men!" After saying that, he sighed and looked up at the sky: "Even if we can escape, losing General Uriah's fourth wife will ruin our friendship..."
Xu Yifan's mind was racing at a speed he had never experienced before. There must be a way! He suddenly had an idea and pulled Wang Wu: "Wu Ye, can you communicate with Jiu Zi?"
Wang Wu looked at him: "What's your trick?" Xu Yifan said hastily and quickly: "You just said that only a dozen or so bandits could gather such a large group of horse thieves?"
Wang Wu and Han Laozhu added a red sleeve to the fragrance net head: "That's right, the largest scale of the horse thieves outside the mouth is only about 300-400 people, but now there are more than 1,000! Dashi Gui collects skins in Kulun every winter and sells goods on the way. In autumn, he returns to the inner mouth. They have been eyeing this trip. There are only a dozen or so thieves who can swallow such a large caravan!"
Xu Yifan smiled, not just because he had thought of a plan, but also because he was pleased that he could remain calm at this moment. He was proud that he could survive in this era! In the past, he was just an office worker with many complaints, but now he found that he could face all kinds of strange and life-and-death situations!
Maybe I just didn't have this opportunity in the past.
"He said softly: 'A dozen or so tribes gathered together, what they're after is still profit. Whichever branch has the most deaths will find it hard to survive on this grassland. Either they'll be annihilated or swallowed up. They... aren't united in heart. The first charge failed. That's why they haven't made a move yet. Nobody wants to sacrifice again. Bandits are all selfish guys... We've already shown our ability to resist, let's offer them another bribe and see if they're willing to keep losing men or take the money and give way!'"
Wang Wu and Han Zhanggui were both delighted, but Wang Wu hadn't fully figured it out yet. However, Old Master Han had already stroked his beard and burst into laughter: "Great, great! No need for dead people to get money... Some small thieves would be overjoyed. Without their support, the big thieves wouldn't dare to mess with us either. Even if they don't agree for now, they'll start fighting among themselves! Let's exhaust them, a thousand bandits eating horse feed, surrounding us for a few days? They're not afraid of us, but afraid of the government troops! Mr. Xu, thanks to your arrangement, we were able to repel them for the first time. Otherwise, we wouldn't have needed this method!"
Wang Wu patted his thigh and hammered Xu Yifan's shoulder: "Brother, how did your brain grow? It's so brilliant?"
This punch was enough to make Xu Yifan almost collapse, and he suddenly slumped over, clutching his shoulder in pain. Wang Wu hastily grabbed him, saying "Brother, I'm a rough man. No need to say anything, I'll listen to you completely!"
