Chapter 25: The Alchemist
Walking freely on the streets of Violet City, the prosperity of Violet City gave Lin Wu a feeling of returning to a major city on Earth.
Unconsciously, Lin Wu arrived at a remote street. However, on this remote street, Lin Wu discovered a shop with a sign that had an icon of a medicine bottle and a magic wand drawn on it.
"Alchemy?" Seeing this icon, a name suddenly popped into Lin Wu's mind.
Just as Lin Wu was about to go in and take a look, a loud explosion suddenly occurred, followed by a black smoke rushing out of the alchemy shop. The black smoke brushed against Lin Wu's nose, causing him to feel nauseous from the pungent smell.
In a short while, an old man rushed out of the black smoke, wearing a tattered and worn-out Taoist robe, with his face covered in soot, and half of his hair and beard burnt. He looked as wretched as could be.
Seeing this, Lin Wu turned around and was about to leave. "It's too dangerous here, no wonder nobody is around." Lin Wu muttered to himself.
"Hey, little brother, don't go!" The old man also saw Lin Wu at this time and hurriedly shouted when he saw him wanting to leave.
"Old man, is there something going on?" Lin Wu asked.
"Hey little brother, come on in! My store has good stuff, I guarantee you'll be satisfied." The old man eagerly began to peddle his wares to Lin Wu.
Upon hearing this, Lin Wu hesitated for a moment before following the old man into the store. He also wanted to take a look at what alchemy was like in this world.
The old man released a wind magic, blowing away the black smoke that filled the room, revealing the simple shop inside.
"Come, come, take a look at this." As soon as they entered the store, the old man eagerly introduced his masterpiece to Lin Wu.
"It's not raining today, even if your umbrella is good I won't buy it." Lin Wu said with some curiosity as he looked at the old man taking out an umbrella.
"This is no ordinary umbrella, it's a magical umbrella." The old man handed the umbrella to Lin Wu Dao, "Come and try opening it."
Taking the old man's umbrella, Lin Wu opened it with a "whoosh" sound, and immediately afterwards, he was drenched by the heavy rain pouring down from the umbrella.
"This is your magic rain umbrella." Lin Wuqiang suppressed his anger and gritted his teeth.
"How's that? Not bad, right? The dozen or so water-based magic arrays I inscribed on this umbrella are what achieved this effect." The old man said with a pleased tone.
"Bang." Upon hearing this, Lin Wu suddenly burst out in anger. He slammed the umbrella in his hand down on the old man and bellowed: "Are you an idiot?! What's the use of this umbrella that will make it rain when opened?!!!"
"Ah, I didn't think of that! No wonder nobody wanted my excellent magic umbrella." The old man exclaimed, slapping his forehead.
"Alright, I'm leaving." Lin Wu stood facing this foolish old man, speechless for a moment.
"Hey, don't go, I have a lot of good things here, just take a look." The old man saw Lin Wu wanting to leave and hastily pulled him back.
Lin Wu was his only guest this month, and if he left, he would have to drink the northwest wind for the rest of the month. So the old man was unwilling to let go of this last opportunity.
Seeing the old man's pitiful expression, Lin Wu, who upholds the virtues of respecting the elderly and loving the young, decided to take a closer look. A master alchemist who can inscribe over ten magical arrays on an umbrella is no ordinary person.
However, it's not a big deal if you don't look at it carefully. But when Lin Wu saw that the fire was rising rapidly, this old man didn't have a single normal item. For example, there was a wooden sword that could emit fireballs. Lin Wu tried to cast a fireball, but ended up burning his own hand. A book with added gravity magic had become as heavy as a piece of iron, making it impossible for anyone to read.
Finally, Lin Wu couldn't bear it anymore and turned around to leave the old man's store in large strides, deciding that if he stayed any longer, he would go crazy.
But the old man saw Lin Wu's outburst and knew that his only business was about to go bankrupt. Suddenly, he saw the long sword at Lin Wu's waist and shouted: "Do you want a magic weapon?"
"Magic weapon!" Lin Wu heard this and immediately stopped his footsteps.
"Do you have a magic weapon?" Lin Wu's eyes lit up and he asked hastily.
"That's right, I'm currently studying a very powerful magical weapon." The old man said with his head raised.
"What's the point, still studying." Lin Wu shook his head in disappointment.
"Don't worry, although my magical weapon is still under research, I can now enchant your current weapon for you." The old man said with a smile.
"Oh, you're still an Enchanter?" Lin Wu exclaimed in surprise.
"Wrong, whether it's Enchanter, Scribe or Alchemist, they all belong to the category of Alchemists. Some Alchemists specialize in one area, that's why there are these titles, and I am a true Alchemist, any of them is top-notch." The old man said proudly.
"Cut it out, you're not going to surpass the Enchanter in alchemy, the Scrollmaker in enchanting, and the Apothecary in scrollmaking, are you?" Lin Wucan didn't believe the old man's words.
"Cough cough, anyway I'm very capable, that's all." The old man said with a dry cough.
Then, the old man took Lin Wu's long sword 'Light Hum' to examine it carefully. "Hmm, not bad, this sword has a very good quality, and can be directly enchanted. What spell do you want to add?" The old man finally had some alchemist style at this moment.
"Wind attribute magic." Lin Wu was also quite familiar with magic, so he roughly stated his requirements.
"Hmm, then I'll give you an additional first-level magic, Gale Strike. This magic can increase the attack speed of your sword. What do you think?" The old man said after a moment of contemplation.
"First-class magic?" Lin Wu furrowed his brow and said, "Can't we add higher-level magic to it?"
"You know what, you think enchanting is easy? The difficulty of enchanting increases by tens of times with each level of magic, and this sword can only be enchanted once, or it will shatter." The old man's eyes widened in anger at Lin Wu's words.
"Alright, alright, I'll do as you say." Lin Wu scratched his head and said.
"Bring it here." The old man stretched out his hand impatiently.
"What?" Lin Wu asked in puzzlement.
"Money! You think I'm going to work for nothing? What a beautiful thought!" The old man shouted.
"How much?" Lin Wu asked cautiously, as it was said that magical weapons were not cheap, and Lin Wu was also a bit nervous.
The old man took one look at Lin Wu's appearance and thought that this little guy must not have much money, but now they were almost unable to open the pot, so the old man gritted his teeth and gave Lin Wu a 50% discount, saying: "50 gold coins."
"What, old man you're a black merchant! 50 gold coins, why don't you go rob!!" Lin Wu's eyes widened. At present, Lin Wu only had 25 gold coins on him, which was enough for Lin Wu to use for several years, but the enchantment cost 50 gold coins, this couldn't help but shock Lin Wu.
"What, you little brat, what do you know? Do you even know what a magic weapon is? Any one of these magic weapons, even the lowest level first-grade magic weapon, is worth over a thousand gold coins. And I'm still giving it to you at half price! Hmph, take it or leave it, I don't care." The old man said angrily.
Hearing the old man's words, Lin Wu also knew that magic weapons were precious, but now he only had 25 gold coins on him, not even half of it. "Can I pay half first?" Lin Wu asked hesitantly.
