Chapter 2: A Noisy Farewell

  Chapter 2: A Noisy Farewell

The sunshine had been pouring down on the earth for an hour, and about thirty paces away from the city gate, a carriage drawn by two black horses had been standing still since sunrise. The curtains of the carriage compartment were occasionally lifted, and the searching gaze revealed the anxiety of the master inside.

Finally, when the curtain was lifted again and her gaze swept out in search, a straight figure was imprinted on her eyes, and then, before she had time to react, that figure unexpectedly walked straight towards her.

  "Dee, Dean..."

After pushing open the carriage door, Lainey jumped down from the carriage without regard for her identity and demeanor, wanting to rush towards the man who had been on her mind, but as soon as she lifted her leg, she thought of the current situation which was all because of her that it had become so terrible and uncontrollable.

Is he here to scold me?

Hesitation appeared in Laini's heart, and the bad idea made her unable to move a single step, especially when she saw the man who had been waiting for a long time rushing over with an urgent expression, which confirmed such an idea; after all, this was something that would never happen on Dean's usual self.

Unless he's very happy... or very angry!

Even if he slaps me in the face, I will still make it clear!

The eldest daughter of the Javier family told herself that and gritted her teeth, preparing to endure this slap.

And then... she received a hug, an unexpected hug, that kind of sudden and unprepared feeling, as well as a different touch, made the face of this Havie family's eldest daughter, who had a certain reputation in the Emerald City, suddenly turn red, that kind of facial high temperature, even making her clever brain momentarily confused, without even hearing the words of the person in front of her.

  "Reni, long time no see!"

  "Hmm, hmm..."

The big sister mechanically nodded her head, and the breath she felt on the tip of her nose made her eyes start to spin, and her body began to soften in waves.

"Wait for me, give me a year's time! I will come back, and come back in broad daylight!"

Dean held the woman in his arms and made a solemn promise - it was because of the lack of this promise that the woman in his arms had poisoned herself to death half a year before the engagement banquet arranged by her family; and when he received the news, the Blood Moon War had already broken out, not to mention seeing each other again, with the fall of the Emerald City, he didn't even have the chance to visit her grave.

Although he had minced his opponent's fiancé, the deputy commander of the Central Knights' Regiment who defected, to feed the dogs, what could be done about it?

  What's lost is lost!

It is only when we have lost something that we realize its true value.

Dean had ridiculed himself countless times for his naivety back then, being used by those people to attack with such low-level language and hurting a woman he cherished; just thinking about that ridiculous evasive action made his arms involuntarily shrink; to the point where even the driver couldn't help but look down on him.

"Cough, cough... Dean Kenrider, attention, attention! This is downtown!"

The coachman's reminder brought Dean back to his senses, and also brought Lainey back to her senses. This young lady immediately jumped onto the carriage when Dean let go of his arms, covering her face with one hand and revealing the upper half of her face through the window frame, a pair of eyes like blue sapphires looking at Dean with three parts tension and seven parts shyness, as well as the kind glances from passersby.

"Remember, wait for me! One year!"

Deane reminded Lainey again, and the big sister nodded repeatedly to show that she knew. However, the previous hug had apparently made this big sister blush, and she still only showed her eyes looking at Deane, without revealing her absolutely beautiful face.

"Help me take care of Lainey!"

With a smile, Dean looked at Lainey once again and then shifted his gaze to Lainey's most loyal servant; the coachman's face was filled with blessings and determination as he said: "I swear on my life!"

The coachman spoke out words that were completely consistent with his actions in the previous life, and Dean accepted his oath, but he would never let such a thing happen again.

A brief meeting was about to end, just as Dean turned around reluctantly to leave, Lainey pushed open the carriage door again and jumped down. She tiptoed, quickly pecked Dean's face with a light kiss, and at the same time stuffed a bag into Dean's hand. Then, amidst Dean's astonishment, she climbed back into the carriage.

Then, with a crack of the whip from the coachman, the carriage sped away quickly.

Dean stood still, holding the bag full of jewelry in his hand, subconsciously touching the cheek that had been lightly kissed by the girl. The corners of his mouth involuntarily curled up, and he picked up his backpack, walking out of the city gate at a faster pace than before, with more determination - after all, the war that was about to come and those enemies who filled him with hatred didn't leave him much time to prepare.

Of course, some things or people also need him to solve when he leaves.

So, after leaving the city gate, Dean's already fast speed became even faster, to the point where it could be said that he was sprinting; and precisely because of this sprinting, the chaotic footsteps that had been following behind Dean became all the more clear.

  "You can't escape, kid!"

Sally the bat looked at Dean who was running away and naturally thought that he wanted to escape; after all, without the protection of the Central Knights' signboard, how could a small civilian be his opponent?

But as soon as he thought that the other party relied on the Central Knights to ruin his several big deals, 'Bat' Sally's heart was like bleeding. Then, this person who is quite famous in some districts of Emerald City shouted at the three subordinates beside him: "Hurry up and catch him for me, I want to make him worse than dead!"

Immediately, the three subordinates sped up.

However, even if they sped up, Dean seemed to be always one step ahead of them. They could only tightly bite at the back of Dean's shadow and keep chasing - first, they left behind the Emerald City Gate District, then the main road of Emerald City, and finally a field.

And when they finally stopped, they found themselves standing in a desolate wilderness.

However, fortunately, the little boy who had been running ahead finally couldn't run anymore and was panting heavily, unable to stand still.

  "Give it to me!"

Similarly, the panting 'Bat' Sally saw that the person he was chasing had finally run out of steam. Overjoyed, he waved his hand at his subordinates beside him and then charged forward himself - 'Bat' Sally was by no means a fierce warrior, as could be inferred from his nickname 'Bat'.

However, when facing Dean, Sally changed his usual style. Apart from his hatred for Dean, he was more aware of Dean's strength. A guy who hadn't even grown a single hair yet, although in the Central Knights, but his strength was very ordinary, or rather, the entire Central Knights' strength was very ordinary.

After all, a knights' order crowded with rich people and nobles, how could it possibly have true strength?

So Sully was confident he could take out the little punk who had ruined several of his deals, but first, he wanted to make him feel some pain!

So, Sally's dagger did not stab towards Dean's vital parts, but instead aimed at his arm.

The dagger flashed in the wind, stabbing towards Dean's arm, while Sally had a wicked grin on her face, eager to hear Dean's cry of pain.

But in the next moment, a cold light flashed by.

Feeling a chill on the back of his neck, Sally instinctively touched it, and suddenly, the fresh blood spurted out like a fountain, dyeing everything in front of him red.

However, Dean dodged at the last moment, and the blood didn't stain his body in the slightest, just like when he was an assassin - although he didn't have the same strength and speed as before, his experience and skills were still there, and Dean did a good job.

After all, he is now facing just a street ruffian, far from those big shots who were under multiple protections back then.

In fact, even if he went back to when he was eighteen years old, Dean had already forgotten about "Bat" Sally. If she hadn't appeared in front of him, Dean would never have remembered that there was such a person - compared to the people he met later on, she really wasn't worth mentioning.

But for some people, Sally is apparently a big shot ——

"What have you done?! You actually killed Old Man Sari!"

  "Bat" Sally's henchman shouted loudly.

The response given to the other party was a cold and sharp sword; after three consecutive sounds, 'Bat' Sally's three seemingly strong but actually only able to fool ordinary people's subordinates followed in the footsteps of the other party.

For this kind of guy who can only survive by relying on fraud and extortion, and making others' families broken and people gone, Dean would absolutely not be soft-hearted, whether it is the current him or the previous him.

Of course, Dean knew well enough that they were just some superficial pawns on the other side.

As for who is the mastermind?

Dean sneered inwardly, for the temperament and personality of his former superior, the deputy commander of the Central Knights' Regiment, he was exceptionally clear about.

"It's not time to get rid of him yet, but some interest is necessary..."

Dean's eyes narrowed slightly, with a cold glint flashing in his eyes as he thought of something.
