Chapter One

  Chapter One

"Getting closer, getting closer, just a little bit closer and my blood will be splattered all over you. I'm telling myself this, but at the same time I'm hoping for reinforcements to arrive, because in reality, I don't want to die..."

"It seems that the final moment has arrived" With a reluctant heart, the last words that could be said as a farewell were uttered from the corner of his mouth, and at the same time, the knife in his hand had already cut through the skin on his neck, and with one more effort, he could cut off the artery that was still throbbing.

As I was preparing to leave, I suddenly saw the forehead of the person closest to me burst into a beautiful blood flower. Then all the people rushing over were stunned for a moment, wondering if it was unbelievable that our people had come? Or did they think we had been abandoned already? Next, another person's forehead burst into a blood flower. It wasn't until then that my ears heard the distant sound of gunfire. Following that, there were continuous gunshots like popping beans, bullets whizzing past my ear, and the person in front of me dancing - the dance of death.

"It's the reinforcements that have arrived" a voice echoed in his mind. Next thing he knew, everything went black before him, and then he could feel himself falling backwards, being caught in a warm embrace.

"Brother, are you okay? Wake up quickly, don't sleep, we're already here. You've worked hard." A loud voice boomed in his ear, and then he felt a drop, another drop falling on his face, one of which flowed into the corner of his mouth, salty, it was tears.

With great effort, he opened his eyes to see a dark, angular face with bright black eyes welling up with tears. Seeing that I had opened my eyes, he hastily wiped away his own tears and then whispered in my ear: "You've worked hard, brother, we're here now, listen, those are our artillery comrades clearing the battlefield for us." Along with his words, a fierce explosion could be heard from ahead, which was the direction of the battlefield.

"Ah, you're here, you've finally arrived." My voice was so soft and small that he had to put his ear close to my mouth to hear. Is it cloudy? It was just sunny a moment ago, why does everything in front of me feel so dark now? "Is it nighttime already? Why can't I see your face?"

Then, I could hear his thunderous roar in my ear: "What are you all doing here, don't block the sun, get out of the way, don't block the sun!" With great effort, I opened my eyes a bit wider and saw that there were many people surrounding me. What I saw was familiar green camouflage uniforms, familiar green steel helmets, and under the helmets were familiar pairs of black eyes. But why was the sky still so dark, why couldn't I see their faces clearly?

"The sky is still very dark, I can't see anything clearly" It's getting darker and darker in front of me, am I leaving? Am I going to find my comrades who spent a week with me? They left 3 days ago and left me here alone. I miss you guys, the mission is complete, reinforcements have arrived, I'm going to find you now.

"The sky is not dark, it's noon now, open your eyes, don't let me sleep, did you hear? Don't let me sleep!" The shouting voice in my ear grew louder, as if calling out to me not to fall asleep, but this voice was getting farther and farther away from me......

"Perhaps he needs water" or a voice from afar, but this voice was low and hesitant, as if it were shy.

"Bring it here!" again the loud voice, I really want to tell him that he scared me, "You scared me!" But when I tried to speak out, even I myself couldn't hear my own voice. Then I felt a kettle being pressed against my mouth, and large amounts of water were pouring out from inside, I struggled to swallow but found that at this moment, I couldn't swallow even one drop.

Then, a low sobbing sound could be heard coming from far away. The body felt light, was it being carried? "You're all crying like women, brother, wait a minute, the military doctor is right behind me, I'll take you there, don't move at all" Along with the vibrations transmitted through the body, he could feel himself running violently. 'Egg, you told them not to cry, what was it that you dripped on my face just now?' This was the last sound in his mind, and then he knew nothing...

I saw my brothers, the brothers who spent the last moments with me. They were smiling at me and waving their hands in a sea of white light. It seemed like they were shouting something, I just knew to keep running forward, keep running forward, wanting to catch up with them. But when I found that no matter how hard I ran, I was only getting farther and farther away from them, all I could do was kneel on the ground and cry in vain.

"How many times have I told you, a man bleeds but doesn't shed tears. Come on, smile," a voice whispered in my ear, and all I could do was force out a twisted grin on my tear-stained face.

"It's better this way... You're always crying and we can't even walk in peace." The voice came again, I wanted to speak but found myself unable to make any sound.

"Never mind, we know what you're thinking. It's because we don't trust you that we came to see you. We'll be leaving now. Remember, Chinese soldiers shed blood but not tears." I could only nod hard, but the tears still fell uncontrollably at my feet.

"Stop crying! We really have to go, we can't stay with you. Go back, you still have time. When it's really time for you to leave, we'll come pick you up." How did they know I wanted to go with them? I shook my head again, and tears continued to fall at my feet.

"Come on, let's go, I don't want to see you cry, just smile." Then, I heard the sound of footsteps and whispers around me. All I knew was that when they waved goodbye, I gave them what I thought was my brightest smile, even though my face was still covered in tears.

It feels like there's a pair of soft little hands gently wiping away the tears on my face with a cloth, and then I sink back into deep darkness...

After a while, I felt myself being placed in a warm place, very cozy. My nose could smell the pungent smell of disinfectant and the scent of sunshine on the quilt beside me. However, I still couldn't open my eyes, but I could sense that there were people constantly coming and going around me, asking about my condition. Then, a gentle voice was answering their questions: "Sorry, the doctor said he will wake up soon."

Then I knew those people quietly walked away, and then my nose could smell a strange floral scent mixed with medicinal smell. Then by my ear, I could hear that pleasant voice again "Hurry up and wake up, you've been unconscious for a week, hurry up and wake up, don't go, there are many people missing you."

Is there anyone else who will remember me, my comrades have all left. I've been through three troops already, but each time they just leave me behind somewhere, every time it's like this, why do you always leave me behind, why don't you take me with you when you leave? Thinking of myself in this state, it seems like tears are falling again, and once more those gentle small hands are lightly wiping away the tears on my face.

"You're not behaving again, are you thinking of your comrades? You're the first person I've saved since going to the battlefield, even if I beg you, please wake up quickly" Her voice was heard by his ears again, soft and gentle, then he fell into an even deeper darkness.......
