Chapter 31: The Eccentric Mawa (1)
What's wrong with this little girl? Tianhu thought to himself, but decided not to mind her since she had saved him.
"Can you shoot a gun?" Tianhu asked Mawa casually, looking at the long rifle on her back.
Mawa was very angry when she heard this. She took down the rifle from her shoulder, aimed without even looking, and fired at a tree. A small bird fell down with the gunshot.
"You try it," Mawa said, picking up the bird and throwing it at Tianhu's feet. She handed him the rifle and looked at him disdainfully. "Do you want me to find a target for you? You can't even hit that branch."
Tianhu held the rifle in his hand, feeling a bit embarrassed. He thought Mawa was very skilled and returned the rifle to her, saying, "I won't be able to hit it."
Mawa smiled sarcastically. "Then why did you ask me if I could shoot? I thought you were very capable."
Tianhu realized that he had unintentionally offended Mawa with his question and quickly apologized.
Just then, a Malay man in his sixties rushed over, looking anxious. "What's going on?" he asked Mawa.
Mawa smiled at him. "Nothing, Dad. Don't worry."
The man looked at her sternly. "Nothing? You're shooting randomly!"
Mawa rolled her eyes at Tianhu. "He asked me if I could shoot a gun. Doesn't that mean he's looking down on me?"
Tianhu explained to the man, "I just asked casually..."
The man said, "Don't mind her, she's too impulsive."
Tianhu was excited and asked, "Do you know where those people who fought against the Japanese went?"
The man looked at him. "You're not a Malay?"
Tianhu replied, "I'm from Singapore."
Mawa's father said, "Mawa, take him to find those people."
Mawa asked, "And what about you?"
Her father smiled confidently. "Those little devils are still lurking outside the forest, trying to get a glimpse of us. I'll go tease them again."
Tianhu looked at Mawa and asked, "Is your dad going to be okay? Won't he be in danger?"
Mawa was impatient. "If those Japanese are wolves, they'll become wolf meat tonight. Let's go, stop dawdling!"
Tianhu had no choice but to follow Mawa, carrying his machine gun.
As they walked, Tianhu asked Mawa, "You seem to hate the Japanese very much?"
Mawa turned back and looked at him without answering.
Tianhu didn't mind and continued asking, "When did the Japanese arrive here?"
Mawa suddenly stopped and glared at Tianhu. "Are you done yet? Are we going to find your people or not?"
Tianhu was confused by Mawa's sudden anger but decided not to ask any more questions.
