Chapter 5: The Holy City of Mohan
I bid farewell to the reluctant Monker, and once again set out on my journey. After inquiring about the direction, I galloped towards the only city on the vast Mosan grasslands - Saint Mohan City. Along the way, I continuously practiced riding the white stallion that Monker had given me. At first, this beast didn't listen to commands and kept trying to throw me off its back, but after I gently "caressed" it a few times, it became obedient. I pointed east and it didn't dare go west, galloping all the way towards Saint Mohan.
After a five-day journey, I finally saw the majestic figure of Saint Mohan. Along the way, I fully experienced the unpredictable weather on the vast grasslands, with sudden heavy rains that drenched me several times, and temperatures that dropped sharply at night, making people shiver. But this was not the most frightening thing - on the third day, I encountered something that made everyone's hair stand on end on the grasslands: a pack of wolves. Imagine thousands of hungry wild wolves with glowing red eyes rushing towards you in a frenzy - it was truly terrifying. The horse under me was scared out of its wits by those predators, and I dare say it ran faster than ever before, almost leaving the wind behind us. The wolf pack couldn't catch up to this crazed animal, so they gave up chasing us. I had to admire the incredible potential that living creatures can unleash when faced with death pressure.
As I stood before the city of Saint Mohan, I finally understood why the people on the grasslands would be filled with pride whenever they mentioned it - because it was so majestic and powerful. A wide moat surrounded the towering thick walls, each brick made from massive bluestones, reflecting a bronze-like glow under the sunlight. The arrow towers stood densely along the city walls, countless scorpions and catapults revealed their presence at the openings of the walls, all showcasing the astonishing defensive power of this city.
After crossing the suspension bridge, I walked into this solid city, only to see all sorts of people shuttling through the bustling streets, vendors carrying goods and shouting, knights riding horses with their heads held high, thieves lurking in the wind, prostitutes soliciting customers along the street, warriors carrying huge axes, all of which opened my eyes wide as a newcomer to this city.
"Noble guest, please come into our humble shop to take a rest. The dishes we serve in this tavern are absolutely the most delicious in all of Saint Mohan. Please come in and have a taste, I guarantee you won't want to leave after eating." A fellow from a tavern that looked quite decent on the outside enthusiastically invited me in. Considering I had been eating dry rations for several days, the fragrant and flavorful food was indeed irresistible to me. Due to my single-minded desire to eat, I didn't notice the sympathetic gazes of the local people around me.
The decorations inside the store are very luxurious, but what puzzles me is that there are only a few guests inside, and they all seem to be outsiders like me. Is the food here not good? However, a plate of stir-fried chicken cubes that was served later dispelled my doubts. The tender chicken meat was topped with a rich and savory sauce, paired with small pieces of wild vegetables on the side as garnish, making it even fresher and more delicious. It's so delicious! My appetite opened up wide, and after eating the bland dried meat for a long time, this fresh meat dish made with seasonings is simply like the most delicious food in the world. I wolfed down that plate of chicken cubes, then ordered another plate of beef and a plate of mutton, plus a pot of wine, and ate to my heart's content.
After finishing eating, the shop assistant walked over: "Sir, does the dish here suit your taste?"
"Not bad, the dishes here are delicious, I'm very satisfied." After having enough food and drink, I also didn't hesitate to praise this restaurant's cuisine.
"Alright then, please settle the bill, it's a total of thirty gold coins."
"Thirty gold coins? Blackmail!?" I was startled by the number he mentioned, a meal like this would cost at most two silver coins, thirty gold coins could support a family of three living a rich life for a year. Although I rarely use money, it doesn't mean I don't know the market price outside, isn't this blatant cheating?
A surge of anger burst out from my heart, daring to extort me? That damned thing, I must tear down this shameless black shop. At that moment, several strong men had already surrounded me, and the shopkeeper sneered at me with a smug expression: "You penniless guy shouldn't come here to eat if you don't have money. Now that you've eaten, just hand over the cash obediently, or else we'll have to use force, and you'll suffer too. By the way, let me mention that our backstage boss is none other than Nadak, the captain of the royal guard, so wanting to report us is out of the question. Heh heh, just hand it over obediently..."
His words were unable to continue, as he flew backward and his entire body crashed into the counter. All of his teeth had fallen out of his gums and landed in his big mouth. Bam! Crash! Thud! A series of impact sounds accompanied his flying figure as it hit the counter.
I withdrew the right fist I had punched out and provocatively asked the several big men surrounding me: "Is there anyone else who wants to come and die?"
People outside the tavern suddenly heard a loud noise coming from inside, with sounds of tables and chairs breaking, bowls and plates shattering on the ground, heavy objects crashing to the floor, and someone's anguished wails. The surrounding crowd curiously gathered at the entrance of the tavern, craning their necks to see what was happening inside.
With a loud crash, someone's body smashed through the tavern door, heavily landing on the street with splinters all over. My figure appeared at the doorway, and behind me, it was questionable whether that place could still be called a tavern - at least, aside from the exterior of the house, there wasn't a single piece of equipment inside that resembled a tavern.
"Ugggh... you this ignorant guy... ugggh... Lord Nadak will not let you off... wah!" The tavern owner, who was kicked out by me, struggled to say, and then was stepped on the head by me, instantly becoming silent.
"Cut! What a trashy black shop, care about what Nada or DaDa, I'm not afraid of you." Leaving behind a ruthless remark, I rode my horse away from here, leaving the onlookers whispering behind me.
"What kind of person is this, actually smashing Captain Nadak's store, really formidable."
"What's so great about it? Do you think Captain Nadak will let him off?"
"It's just that no one under Captain Nadak has been able to escape yet, I think he'll be in trouble soon."
"It's not necessarily so, this guy might not even be a match for Captain Nadaque, he is after all the so-called Black Night's Chosen of the nocturnal tribe."
"Whatever."
"Want to make a bet?"
As they saw their argument becoming more and more intense, a sudden burst of urgent hoofbeats made them all shut up. A knight clad in golden armor flew to the entrance of the tavern. His icy blue eyes, thin lips, and high-bridged hawk nose gave off an ominous feeling. This young knight with gray hair was none other than Nadak, the captain of the royal guard, who had just received a message and rushed to his own tavern.
The scene before him ignited his anger, the large door of the tavern was smashed into a huge hole, and the boss of the bar lay unconscious on the ground. As he walked inside, it was as if a whirlwind had passed through, not a single table or chair remained intact. Pots, bowls, and dishes were scattered all over the floor. His men were either lying on the ground, their upper bodies smashed through the ceiling with only their legs dangling down, or they were entirely embedded in the bar's cabinet.
"Who did it?!" Nadak roared in anger, grabbing one of the still somewhat conscious subordinates.
"It's... a... a nightwalker's doing" He managed to say these few words with great effort, and then he was thrown aside, his unlucky head hitting a broken piece of table, and he fainted with a thud.
Dare to oppose me? Thinking viciously, Nadak mounted his horse and chased after the direction I left.
At this time, I was lingering at the door of a brothel with great interest. Those heavily made-up and seductive women came up to me one after another, wanting to pull me in. I touched my bulging waist and not only had I just smashed that black shop, but I also searched for their ill-gotten gains. Anyway, it was their illegal money, so it's better for me to use it, haha, now I don't have to worry about money anymore.
The prostitutes' fragrance wafted over me, making my whole body feel comfortable. After experiencing the pleasure of men and women, my resistance to women had decreased a lot. They intentionally or unintentionally touched my full chest, making me so excited that my nosebleeds were about to flow out. I really wanted to tear open their covering clothes and grab them.
Just as I was about to fall, a sharp neighing of a horse sounded, and a knight in golden armor galloped up and stopped not far from me. He looked me up and down, then seemed to confirm something, and fiercely said to me: "You! You're the one who smashed my tavern! You bastard!"
I took a glance at the man in front of me and noticed that his golden armor was adorned with exquisite floral patterns, and on the center of the armor, a sun was engraved - the emblem of the Mosan Kingdom. I already knew who he was - the tavern owner who had been taken advantage of by me earlier today, also the captain of the Royal Guard, Nadak.
I chuckled: "Sorry about that, the people at that tavern were so enthusiastic in welcoming me and even gave me money to beat them up. I was really too embarrassed, so I just lightly hit them a few times, hoping they wouldn't think it was too light."
Nadak's already gloomy face turned even uglier, as if squeezed out from between his teeth. He growled at me viciously: "You are suspected of endangering the safety of the city's residents and destroying others' property. I hereby declare your arrest." Several soldiers behind him heard his order and approached me with their long guns raised.
"Hmph, even if the King of Morocco came, I would still fight without hesitation. What more these few small soldiers? I walked towards those soldiers with ease, one of them stretched out his long spear, wanting to stab at my feet. With a light grip, he didn't even have the consciousness to resist, and that long spear fell into my grasp."
So fast! Nadak, who was watching from the side, exclaimed in his heart that such speed might even be faster than himself, and he couldn't help but start taking his opponent seriously.
With the long spear in hand, I didn't play any fancy moves, and with a whooshing sound, it swept across horizontally, the iron-made long spear was swung into an arc shape.
"Wow......" The several soldiers who were hit by my stick-like swing flew out instantly, crossing the length of the street, and fell to the other end of the street, unable to get up again.
"So, Captain Nadak, how exactly do you plan on arresting me?" I asked with a smirk, looking at the cold sweat dripping from Nadak's face.
"N...N..." Nadak was stunned by my incredible power and couldn't speak for a moment. However, just as I was about to go forward and knock him out too, a round of applause came over, "What an awesome warrior! I wonder if I have the honor of getting to know this brave man?"
Turning around, a young man wearing a magnificent brocade robe stood on the balcony of the brothel, smiling at us. Several people wearing golden armor similar to Nadak's surrounded him vigilantly, as if his identity was not simple.
Nadak's face turned strange, he lowered his head and respectfully said: "Greetings to Prince Alsto." What? So he was the second prince of Mosan, Alsto. I couldn't help but recall the various rumors I had heard about him.
Prince Alsto is the second son of the current King of Mosan, and as the second son of the king, he does not receive the same level of affection from the people of Mosan as his older brother, Prince Arand, who is known for his bravery in battle. However, Prince Alsto's handsome face, elegant demeanor, and down-to-earth personality have won over the hearts of many Mosan citizens. Most notably, he married the woman considered to be the most beautiful on the grasslands - Zelina, the daughter of the chief of the largest tribe in Mosan, the Krim clan. This is a matter that all men on the grasslands envy. It's said that when Zelina got married, countless young men who had fallen in love with her were heartbroken and took their own lives - it's unclear if this is an exaggeration or not, but one thing is certain: she is undoubtedly the most beautiful woman on the grasslands. With such a good reputation, it seems that Prince Alsto is indeed worth getting to know.
Having accepted his invitation, I entered the brothel and was led by the madam to the door of a private room. She respectfully announced to those inside: "Your Highness, the guest has arrived."
"Please come in, my honored guest." A refined male voice came from inside, which was exactly the voice of Alsto I had just heard.
He pushed open the door, and Alstair was already sitting at a table, smiling at me, gesturing for me to sit in the other chair beside the table. I didn't stand on ceremony either, plopping myself down without even a greeting, my rude behavior immediately drawing angry glances from his subordinates behind him, but Alstair still wore a smile all over his face, his composure truly impressive.
At this time, Nadak hastily approached Alstos' side and whispered something. I didn't even need to listen to know that he was definitely speaking ill of me. Contrary to Nadak's expectations, after listening, Alstos furrowed his brow and coldly said: "Captain Nadak, I've also heard rumors about the tavern you mentioned, it seems they're not very good. It appears this brave warrior didn't do anything wrong. If you want to take revenge for that kind of thing, I'll have to question whether you're suitable for being the captain of the royal guard! Now, apologize to our guest over there!"
His voice was very elegant, but when Nada heard these words, cold sweat broke out on his forehead. A person who had just been arrogant and overbearing suddenly became like a humble servant.
"I'm extremely sorry, I offer my sincerest apologies for today's incident, please forgive my rudeness." Nadak apologized to me very sincerely, and it seemed that I had no reason to be angry with him anymore. Moreover, I had taken so much money from his store, so I forgave him magnanimously.
"Come, let's drink and talk. Boss, bring the best wine, the best dishes, and the most beautiful girls. I want to have a good time with this guest." Alstro shouted loudly at the boss. Before long, exquisite dishes were placed on the table, several very pretty women sat beside me and Alstro, helping us toast. Although I had just eaten, the food on the table was incredibly delicious, it opened my appetite again, and the beautiful women next to me kept serving me dishes and pouring wine, I got drunk before even drinking much.
"May I ask your name, honored guest?" Alsto asked me as he clinked glasses with me. "I am Vittel from the Night Clan." The woman beside me was stirring up a fire in me, and there was no need to conceal my identity anyway - after all, it's obvious at a glance that I'm a Night Clansman.
"Haha, the Night Clan's martial skills are renowned throughout the land. Today, I've finally seen it for myself and indeed, it lives up to its reputation. I wonder what brings you, Unique, to our Saint Mohan City?" Alstos chuckled while subtly probing my intentions.
"There's nothing much, just that it's my first time getting lost in the Mystic Forest and I wanted to come see the famous Saint Mohan City on the grasslands." My response seemed to satisfy him. He extended an unexpected invitation: "Tomorrow is the Grassland God Hok's sacrificial ceremony, Father King will invite some martial arts experts to the palace for a friendly competition to liven up the atmosphere, I wonder if you, Night Clan warrior, are interested in participating in this grand event? If you're willing, I'll recommend you."
Entering the palace? It was an invitation that I never thought of even in my dreams, so I readily agreed. Alstos seemed extremely delighted and drank a lot more wine. Although I felt something was off at the bottom of my heart, those beautiful women came up to me one after another, completely disrupting my thoughts. The beauty is indeed a calamity, it's true.
He had drunk enough, Alstair stood up and said to me: "Vic, I'll come pick you up again tomorrow. Today, just enjoy yourself to your heart's content, all expenses are on me." After that, he left, wow, such a generous person I've never met before.
"Come on, babies, let's have some fun." Holding the few women from just now, I staggered into a prepared bedroom, another sleepless night tonight.
