All are stubborn and strong-willed (5)
A forest of bayonets glinting in the sunlight, reflecting pair after pair of eyes that seemed to be on the verge of bleeding with rage.
The first wave of attack was launched by a company of South Korean army.
Six B-26 bombers first swept over the valley, dropping bombs called "Wild Wasp" and a 500-pound bomb called "Big Head". As soon as the bombers flew away, the US military's 105MM howitzer group began a thirty-minute barrage. The high ground seemed to have been blown up, the position was violently shaking with smoke and pungent gunpowder smell, several shells hit the pile of bodies, crimson flesh and broken cloth rose into the air, scattered in front of the position, several broken rifles flew high into the sky, leaving no trace.
The seasons change frequently in the midst of gunfire, sometimes it's the freezing cold winter, and then the heat released by incendiary bombs suddenly sends people back to the scorching summer, blood is burning, snow is also burning!
Smoke bombs released a thick smoke that enveloped the battlefield, and the Korean army began to attack. The soldiers had fire in their hearts, gripped their rifles tightly, and waited until the Korean army was within ten or so meters of the battlefield before opening fire. They all adopted a squatting shooting posture, a shooting stance that could launch a charge at any time, with their shirts open. Then hand grenades flew over like a flock of crows, blowing out a piece of flesh and blood flying everywhere, wailing and howling. After the gunfire started, the Korean soldiers who were charging forward fell down like broken walls. After symbolic shooting, the rest of the Korean soldiers retreated, and the green helmets rolled across the highway, seeping into the distant mountains like a tide.
"Damn it!" Chen Zizhong angrily thrust his spear into the air, originally intending to take advantage of the momentum to launch a counterattack, but unexpectedly, the Korean army's ability to escape was much stronger than their combat skills.
After the first tentative attack by the South Korean army, Lieutenant Xu Kai led two platoons of reinforcements to the position.
Xu Kai was not tall, and compared to the sturdy warriors who were like earthen blocks, he looked thin and frail, like a half-grown child. He was born in Jin County, Fengtian (now Jinzhou, Liaoning Province), and from a young age studied hard for eight years at his family's private school. Later, he went to Wanda Spring in Fengtian to study traditional Chinese medicine, and after three years became a medical assistant. Before joining the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, Xu Kai had a pale complexion and wore glasses, looking like a bookworm who was not good at either literature or martial arts. The Sichuan soldiers called him "stir-frying stick", implying that he was useless. But a few years later, he surprisingly led a sharp knife brigade that was as fierce as wolves and tigers.
Xu Kai, who led the Sharp Blade Regiment, was normally gentle and elegant in speech, slow and soft-spoken, completely without the demeanor of a fierce general. But once he went into battle, it was as if he had transformed, wearing only one white shirt to charge forward, his eyes blazing with fury, his aura fierce and formidable. Xue Rengui's three arrows shook Mount Tian, Xu Kai's three shots silenced three Japanese machine guns, causing the Japanese army to retreat for a long time, earning him the nickname "White Robed Xue Rengui" of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army.
Xu Kai and Chen Zizhong were old comrades-in-arms for many years, both being "old bones" of the Sharp Blade Regiment. They had a deep affection for each other. When Xu Kai first heard the news that Chen Zizhong was transferring out of the military, he ran to the regimental headquarters and threw his hat off in protest, shouting at the top of his lungs: "Third Platoon Leader Chen Zizhong has made so many contributions to our troops! Every time a high-ranking officer inspects our unit, they always shake hands with him! Let alone his last two major achievements - not just in our regiment, but in the entire Field Army, how many people can match that? And let's not forget the past - in 1944, he and the Reconnaissance Chief were on a reconnaissance mission when they were surrounded by Japanese devils. He hugged one of them and jumped off a cliff! Luckily, there was a river below, or else he would have been a martyr! I know our troops have discipline, but discipline is dead, people are alive - can't we make an exception for someone who has made such great sacrifices?"
Emotions can be vented, orders must be executed. Xu Kai slammed his hat in front of the team leader and returned to the company to do ideological work for Chen Zitong. He prepared two watermelons and a bottle of white wine, ready to let Chen Zitong vent freely, but Chen Zitong swallowed the watermelon and wine with a belt, only answering with "ah". Xu Kai's heart was stabbed with pain. Later, Chen Zitong returned to the troops and advanced into Korea together, and the relationship between the two became closer.
Climbing up onto the battlefield, Xu Kai, wearing a dogskin hat, squatted beside Chen Zizhong and panted heavily: "What's going on?"
"Nutritionless, running faster than a rabbit." Chen Zizhong grabbed the dog skin hat and put it on his head, hehe smiled: "Still Lian Chang will hurt people, come just come, also bring gifts, thank you!"
