Chapter 6 The Bride in Red

Chapter 6: The Daughter-in-law in Red Satin (1)

Having obtained the needle, Chen Zizhong was unable to cure Wang Zhengwei's night blindness and had no choice but to continue staying in the field hospital. Staying in the hospital was like being imprisoned, when he got frustrated, Chen Zizhong would pace back and forth with his tail between his legs like a wolf trapped in an iron cage, when he got tired, he would thicken his skin and get familiar with the guard soldiers, just wanting to touch the gun and satisfy his craving, but the guard soldier had been deceived before and stood far away with a defensive posture, shouting at Chen Zizhong "When are you going to amputate? Or should I give you general anesthesia first?"

Ding Rujin spoke with a spark, Chen Zizhong didn't mind, and chatted with him shamelessly. He wanted to run back to the front line, but it's easy to get punished if one person goes back alone, so he thought of pulling Ding Rujin in. Ding Rujin also wanted to go back, and every time he saw Chen Zizhong being shameless and grinding his teeth with the guard soldiers, his heart felt sour and aching.

The front line was fought fiercely, and the wounded poured into the field hospital. To keep the wounded warm, hot stones were stuffed into stretchers, but many of the wounded still died from their serious injuries.

The field hospital was overcrowded, Chen Zizhong and Ding Rujin's beds were moved to both sides of the corridor, busy doctors and nurses in glasses shuttled back and forth in front of him, he felt the pain of the medical staff on the battlefield, they were not afraid of the wounded dying on the way, dying at the moment the stretcher was put down, what they feared most was being powerless to watch their comrades die like a silken thread, these tough guys who didn't even frown in the sea of fire and rain of bullets still looked longingly in the direction of the cannon fire before they died.

In the cave, bonfires burned day and night, bright red and transparent. The washed gauze was densely hung beside the bonfire, and the dripping water droplets fell on the hot stone wall, sizzling and emitting white smoke.

At night, Chen Zizhong sat by the bonfire warming his hands and asked Ding Rugang in a low voice: "The front line has fired cannons again. Before dawn, there will definitely be wounded soldiers sent in. I'm thinking of taking advantage of the chaos to sneak out. What about you?"

  "Together."

"Haven't cut the umbilical cord yet?" Chen Zizhong looked at Ding Rujin's belly.

"You said it yourself, the three rows of warriors are all cat-like, with nine lives, and even if they're blown to pieces, they can still charge forward." Ding Ru looked towards the entrance: "What if we're discovered by the guards?"

Chen Zizhong sneered: "I'll give him a general anesthetic."

Unauthorized departure from a field hospital may result in severe criticism or even disciplinary action from superiors, but both were too excited to sleep the whole night as they would be returning to the front line soon.

The cave echoed with uneven breathing, weak snoring and the moaning of wounded men in their dreams. A thunderous shout awakened most of the wounded from their dreams.

  "Nurse! I need to pee!"

A wounded man with a hoarse voice, wrapped in a blanket, walked out of the cave where the seriously injured were placed and stood by another bonfire. The jumping flames reflected on his face, which was red from suffocation.

"Keep your voice down, they just fell asleep over there." A nurse searches for a foothold among the wounded scattered all over the place, moving step by step.

The head nurse had a pair of big eyes, looking very spirited and probably under 20 years old.

"Hurry up, I'm telling you to be quicker!" The wounded soldier, wrapped in a blanket, vented his anxious emotions on the nurse: "Ah, ah, hurry up, damn it!"

Chen Zizhong looked him up and down, unable to find any injuries, clearly a scoundrel who was taking advantage of the wounded area to enjoy himself. If he weren't so far away, he would have already spat on him.

The nurse's head was bowed low, her lips bitten white. She held the American helmet used as a urinal in front of the wounded man, turned away and said: "Please keep your voice down."
