Sin City (Chapter 4: That Yellow Bastard - The Battle at Cape Wrath Police Station)
He took a sip of hot coffee, and with his eyes scanned the police gathered at another table. Fortunately, these police did not see his contemptuous gaze, otherwise they would have made their move first. In Lion City, the status of police in M Country is very high, because the police are always under the leadership of the civil government, and their image to the outside world is still good, especially after participating in several UN peacekeeping police forces, their reputation has grown even more, far surpassing that of the military and constabulary. But all this is just a facade.
They are detaining people illegally on the streets and collecting protection fees at will. When handling cases, as long as you give them money, they'll let you off no matter what crime you've committed, including murder or arson. The police have become the biggest gang in the city, beating and intimidating people with impunity. Wen Yong has seen these corrupt cops doing bad things many times since he arrived in Lion City over a year ago, but unfortunately, he's not a military officer and doesn't have the power to enforce the law or issue arrest warrants.
Yu Fei naturally drank his coffee and asked: "Do you speak French?"
"Of course, I lived in Louisiana, can't write French, but my spoken language is okay." Wen Yong spoke about his experience in French, after finishing school he went to the United States to work, and worked as a waiter in a French restaurant. His English was not good at first, and it was even harder for him to communicate with his boss who liked to shout in French. However, gradually he was able to understand that language which is similar to English but more difficult. Later, he went to the Democratic Republic of Congo to work as a security guard in a mine, and his French helped him a lot, making him feel very comfortable living in a French-speaking country.
"That's enough, I've also washed dishes in Louisiana." Yu Fei made no secret of his past, and he also spoke in French, "You seem to hate the police."
"Sir, if you were to see what they do in this city, their behavior and actions, you would also detest them." Wen Yong was so angry he wished he could take down the entire police force of the city.
"I want to talk to you about training, why do you organize bayonet training at night? Is there a chance to use bayonets in modern warfare?" Yu Fei was curious about his training subjects.
"Because there were no battles, the skills the soldiers learned at the Army Training Center would deteriorate if they didn't exert themselves physically. I thought of ways to torment them so they wouldn't deteriorate. For other subjects, I followed the regulations for training, and bayonet practice was mainly used when escorting prisoners of war. Anyway, a big battle will eventually come."
Wen Yong's words were not yet finished, when a Dodge van appeared outside the fast food restaurant with an advertisement for instant noodles on it, looking like a delivery vehicle. Yu Fei turned his head and saw that the side of the car was pasted with black sunshade paper, making it impossible to see the situation inside the car.
"Today we save this damn police force, not because we pity those bad people, but to make a name for ourselves. Only when the public recognizes our value will they assist us. Don't you want to be a gendarmerie officer? Don't you like the shiny medals and the feeling of being respected? Everyone wants to move up in life, and the simplest way is to do your job well. Do you hate those who break the law? Do you despise those who exploit loopholes in the law? Do you despise those thugs who bully people? Are you willing to see the big shots of the underworld riding around in luxury Lincolns?" Yu Fei was not luring him with a bright future, but rather conducting a brilliant pre-battle mobilization.
Two plainclothes gendarmes sat next to the police officers who were chatting in French, but none of them could understand. These police officers had not attended a police academy and were ordinary police officers who graduated from a two-year training program at a local police school. They barely spoke their native language, let alone foreign languages. They were just ordinary security police. The police officers inside the fast food restaurant also noticed the car outside, with both doors of the van open and people getting out. Two gangsters carrying AK-47 automatic rifles got out of the car and immediately opened fire on the police officers inside the restaurant.
"Rat-a-tat-tat" a burst of automatic rifle fire, the large plate glass was shattered into powder, the powerful rifle bullets flew wildly through the glass towards the police. The policemen sitting in the chairs had no time to react and were hit by the rifle bullets, the bullets hitting their bodies instantly staining their blue police uniforms red with blood. Several injured but not dead policemen fell down, the pain of their wounds preventing them from returning fire.
Five other gangsters got off the car, holding AK-47s and rushed into the lobby of the Wanjiajiao police station. There were several duty policemen sitting behind their desks, who had not reacted yet when they saw five automatic rifles spitting bullets. The three gangsters who came later, holding large-caliber shotguns, aimed at the police rushing out of the office and fired. A policeman holding a revolver ran to the front hall, seeing eight gangsters, and was about to curse "You damn bastards", but the huge dull sound of the shotgun stopped him. Two gunshots rang out, and the upper body of the policeman was shot into a black mess by the shotgun pellets. His shirt was blown open with a small hole, and the pellets were embedded in his body. The bright red blood quickly stained the broken shirt red. The policeman fell to the ground after being shot, and there were no police left in the lobby, only four bodies. The gangsters walked down the corridor towards the detention room, holding their guns.
Yu Fei and Wen Yong crouched on the floor of the restaurant, which had just been swept clean and didn't get their clothes dirty. They secretly took a look outside, and the several people who got out of the container truck had already walked into the police station. Only one driver was left in the container truck, with the glass of the driving cabin lowered. Two constables clearly saw a bald head sitting in the car.
"First, let's get rid of this kid, and then destroy their car." Yu Fei pulled out his M1911A9 pistol from the small bag he carried with him, cocked it, and rolled onto the ground, landing amidst shattered glass. He raised his gun, aiming at the bald man sitting in the driver's seat, his gaze extending from the gun's muzzle to the target, finally settling on the bald man. With a swift motion, he pulled the trigger, and the .45-caliber bullet accurately hit the bald man, causing a beautiful blood flower to bloom on his head.
Wen Yong took out his M9 pistol and fired several shots at the car body, randomly hitting the oil tank and blowing out the tires. To enhance the attack's effect, he also pulled out his lighter from his pocket, lit it, and gently tossed it under the cargo truck a few meters away. The spilled gasoline ignited quickly, engulfing the vehicle in flames that illuminated the dark street.
"Stop!" Yu Fei, a former mercenary, shouted in French. Wen Yong understood French and immediately stopped shooting. The two of them hid in the most secluded corner, leaving the police to fight the bandits. They watched from their hiding spot as the police officers in the restaurant were either killed or injured, with no real fighting power left. They simply held onto their guns for courage, firing randomly until they ran out of bullets. The police officers then lay on the ground, staring at their bleeding wounds and letting out ear-piercing screams, apparently finding the sensation of being shot quite unbearable.
Bandits rushed into the police station's lobby, wildly sweeping with AK guns, almost shattering everything that could be broken. The AK guns let out furious roars as the on-duty policeman's body shook and convulsed before falling to the ground, where a pool of bright red blood formed. With no one left to resist, several bandits occupying the front hall reloaded their magazines, firing a few more shots at the dead policemen's bodies in short bursts, then stood behind the consultation desk facing the main entrance, crouching down with guns trained on the doorway.
The police chief knew that he and the gang leader had fallen out over money issues, but he was not unprepared. That night, he ordered all police officers to terminate their rest and wait in their respective offices. There were 150 police officers hiding in the police station, just not all of them were placed in the front hall. In this unfair game, the rules were set in a way that the police had the upper hand and the gang was at a disadvantage. The police chief was ready to take down the gang and win the battle. If he won, the news would say that the police in Lion City were not corrupt at all and could even shoot down so many gangsters. If he lost, he could still request support from his superiors and remain undefeated.
Over 150 police officers, except for a dozen brave ones who were on duty in the lobby and got injured, others were hiding. The special SWAT team of the police station had taken twice as much ammunition as usual and was hiding near the detention room. Other ordinary police officers, detectives, and inspectors were all leading their teams to prepare for battle, with helmets, bulletproof vests, shotguns, pistols, submachine guns, and automatic rifles at the ready. The gangsters broke in and grabbed a walkie-talkie to report to their companions: "We're in, no need for support, the car was destroyed, send another one to pick up the boss."
The detained gang leader was secretly transferred to a secret location by the police, this time they didn't take money and the police absolutely wouldn't let him go, they must bring the head of the criminal organization to court, and let that guy know the severity of the death penalty. For the bandits, this is a life-and-death rescue mission, if the boss dies, who will give them money in the future? How can they live a life where they spend money like water?
Wen Qian and Xiao Yan sat face to face in the armory, there were not many female police officers in the police station, so they were arranged in this relatively safe place, ordinary people would find it difficult to get here, besides, the weapons inside had been distributed, and there was no major responsibility.
"Out of over 150 people, only you and I didn't take bribes. We could have gone home to rest well. This conflict was caused by uneven distribution. We should report the truth." Wen Qian had immigrated to this country not long ago. She had attended police school in another country but failed the police exam, so she immigrated here. After preparing for some time, she passed the Lion City Police Department's exam and became a local police officer in this country.
"What's the use of reporting, a small portion of all that money is given to us, and most of it goes up to the bureau, as well as the state judicial department and the ministry of internal affairs. It's not easy for you and me to keep our hands clean, let alone others."
Xiao Yan was a native of Lion City, she had known about the darkness in the police force since she was young. After graduating from high school, she went to the local police academy, two years later her classmates were all living an idle life in college, while she already became a nominal justice advocate with a badge and gun. She didn't want to be a capable police officer who could clean up all the thieves in the city, she knew she wasn't capable of that, nor did she want to be a corrupt police officer taking bribes, at least she could still face her own conscience.
