Section 1: The Ridiculous Exam

City of Sin (Chapter 1: The Ridiculous Exam)

In the dimly lit jungle, quietly, in the clearing of the jungle, some empty wooden boxes were placed, from the shape and symbols on the box, it was a box for loading military supplies. Next to the pile of boxes, there were several tents, and hidden model soldiers, real patrol soldiers near the camp, they had been building logistics supply base here for several days, today is the last day of the exercise, also the last time blue army can use, however, the red army guard team who played as hypothetical enemy was already exhausted.

Yu Fei wore a camouflage uniform, his body smeared with animal dung. He held an optical exercise rifle and crouched behind a bush. Looking at the few comrades behind him, he said, "Brothers, since I'm your leader, I'll get you through this exercise. This confrontation exercise is tied to our graduation results, it's the final score of our practical course."

The several reserve military academy students behind him who had smeared their faces with black camouflage paint all nodded in agreement with what he said.

"I'll take out the sentry, then you guys rush in during the chaos and destroy our last target. Be careful." Yu Fei said, holding a laser gun used for training, quietly crawling towards the Red Army camp.

He opened the optical sight on his laser gun, adjusted it slightly, and aimed at the head of a sentry 400 meters away. He turned off the safety switch on the laser gun. He didn't like simulated exercises. He hated this almost silent laser gun. The exercise rifle in his hand was an imitation M-24, which could basically simulate combat performance on the exercise field. He saw the sentry's head through the scope. The sentry also wore a helmet for exercise, with four photosensitive pieces on it. Mainly, hitting these pieces with a laser gun was equivalent to killing this red team member. Similarly, there were such things on his own head. When a soldier's helmet was hit by a laser gun, a colored smoke would burst out, making it convenient for the forward observer of the exercise command to confirm that he had been "killed". In addition, the laser guns in the hands of the killed participants also stopped working and could not be used again. This made the exercise more realistic.

Yu Fei easily cocked the fake M-24 rifle he didn't like, still preferring the real and tactile M-24 rifle. He couldn't understand why his country had to learn from America, using toy guns for training. Maybe it was only Country M in all of Southeast Asia that used such a ridiculous rifle. Other countries usually installed devices like laser generators on their standard-issue weapons, so what's the point of making something so expensive?

A laser beam hit the helmet of the sentry, and before he could hear the simulated gunfire from the photonic gun, a colored smoke bomb burst out of his helmet. He hastily searched for the "enemy", and the on-site judge immediately opened up his handheld computer to confirm that he had been eliminated. The judge thought to himself: "Finally, after waiting for several days, the Blue Army has made a move."

The other sentries hadn't been hit by the laser guns yet, one of them suddenly shouted "Sniper!", his helmet immediately emitted a smoke screen, and the laser gun in his hand was also locked up, unable to continue participating in the exercise.

Three Blue Army assault team members saw smoke coming out of the Red Army sentry's helmet and knew that Yu Fei had knocked down the enemy. They immediately rushed out of the woods, charged towards the target, quickly fell to the ground, took out several incendiary grenades, and threw them at the target with all their might.

The other soldiers who did not withdraw from the exercise quickly hid and looked for snipers to prepare for a counterattack. Another group chased after the blue army personnel who ambushed their supply base. Yu Fei took advantage of the time to "kill" a few more people, quickly moved out of hiding, and returned along the original route with three other people.

Through the monitors in the exercise venue, the officers of the exercise command saw the performance of the four military academy students and were very satisfied. In the past few days, they carefully observed these people, and these students did not disappoint them at all, and they were satisfied with writing excellent grades on their practical course transcripts.

Yu Fei led several classmates to the designated assembly point, where a UH-60 was already waiting for them. They grasped the timing just right, and as they climbed into the cabin, Yu Fei glanced at his watch, completing all the exercise subjects exactly on schedule.

The helicopter took them directly back to school, ending their last exam.

UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters landed on the school playground and dropped them off before returning to the exercise venue.

Yu Fei got off the plane and saw that the school's training ground was very lively, with several Lincoln cars parked nearby. He didn't know which big shot had come to inspect this small reserve military academy, which wouldn't normally attract high-level attention.

He was standing there, looking around, when the instructor walked up to him. "The President is inspecting the school, and the principal has organized a skills competition for the students. You'd better hurry up and participate, you're the sharpshooter here."

"I'll go change clothes, I just finished the practical exam." Yu Fei prepares to head back to the locker room.

"Go show off first, follow me." The instructor took him to the shooting range.

The military school students were in groups of four, each holding a sniper rifle and taking a few shots. Of course, not everyone could shoot, only those with good marksmanship skills could do so. The instructor brought him here, handed him an M-24 sniper rifle, "The President is over there, shoot well, don't embarrass the school."

Yu Fei turned around and saw that there was a person sitting on the observation deck, surrounded by a group of people wearing black suits. Many people were holding binoculars looking towards the target range. He lay down on the familiar shooting training ground, picked up his M-24 rifle, aimed at several colorful balloons 800 meters away, and fired a shot. He didn't even look at the effect, quickly pulled the bolt to eject the shell.

His gun muzzle turned to the next target and popped another colored balloon.

After shooting 5 balloons, Yu Fei stood up with his rifle and returned it to the instructor, "I'm going to change my clothes."

He hated this kind of hypocritical performance, went back to the dormitory to pick up a clean set of clothes and went straight to the bathroom.

It's ridiculous that the graduation exam actually took everyone out for a lap, usually military schools are thesis defenses, and then go to the troops for internships, practice reports, get a passing score, and get a graduation certificate to formally serve in the army. It's great to send planes to pick people up from far away and take them to the exercise area to participate in the Red Flag Exercise of the Army, it's really troublesome.

Just washed halfway, someone knocked on the bathroom door, "Yu Fei, the president is going to inspect the students, hurry up and gather."

"Damn it, we just finished the drill and now they're bothering us again. Reserve officers are not human beings." Yu Fei was washing his hair with shampoo and didn't even bother to go out.

"Hurry up, maybe we can take a photo with the old man." He came to call his classmate who had changed into formal attire and ran out to gather.

Yu Fei was too lazy to go see those dignitaries, anyway the president of M country changes every few years, what's the point of knowing him, it's not as good as knowing a few generals from the personnel bureau of the Ministry of National Defense, at least you can get a good position, he continued to take a bath and didn't even leave his dorm.

After washing for half an hour, Yu Fei felt pretty good. He put on a clean training suit, wiped his hair with a towel and walked out of the bathroom. The dormitory was empty, those guys had gone to see the president, he could stay quietly for a while.

He sat down on his bed, casually picked up a military magazine and flipped through it, passing the time.

In just a few minutes, the sound of chaotic footsteps came from outside, and a group of people walked to the dormitory door. A military school instructor pushed open the door and entered, startling Yu Fei.

"Right here, sir, please come in." The instructor was escorting the President on a tour of this dilapidated school.

"It's very clean." The president said while looking around, just saw Yu Fei, he felt that this young man was quite familiar. Yu Fei also couldn't bear to sit still in front of a large crowd, got up from the bed, stood at attention, waiting for these annoying officials to finish their tour and leave.

"You're the one who defused the bomb for the SWAT team last time, I saw you on the news and even gave an interview." The President walked up to him.

"Yes, that's what I should have done. The police aren't equipped to deal with those terrorists." Yu Fei stood up straight and casually found an excuse.

"You became a hero before you even graduated, I hope your future career goes smoothly." The president stretched out his hand for a handshake, and Yu Fei reluctantly hurried to extend his own hand as well. In fact, he didn't want to get too close to the official, what was the point of knowing him? Once the election was over, he would be nothing, and couldn't help him with anything.

"Thank you." Yu Fei said with a pretended politeness.

The president left with a large entourage, led by the military school instructor. Yu Fei lay back in bed, passing the last moments before graduation. Anyway, his thesis and practical course grades were good, so he should be able to go to a top-notch army field force, hopefully not too far away.

"You have a letter." The employee from the school's mailroom walked into his dorm room, "Sign for it here."

"I don't know anyone here." Yu Fei signed his name, took the letter and opened it to read. It was a letter from the Garrison Command Department, asking him to attend an interview at the command department after the graduation ceremony. A faint smile flashed across his face, finally having the opportunity not to serve in remote areas. The garrison is stationed in cities, can go to big cities, the army's field troops are all sparsely populated small places, compared to the garrison, the army is much more miserable. If he could really go to the Garrison Department for service, it would be too comfortable, and there would also be a thick salary.

He sat on the bed, holding a letter from the Garrison Command, looking forward to better days ahead. Living in the barracks was good, eating was good, and salary subsidies were a given. Every day, walking to and from work on the bustling city streets felt different. Wearing that black Garrison uniform made him feel powerful, and he could even catch thieves, making him a hundred times more intimidating than the police.
