Chapter 6: Zhang Wenguang Didn't Die?
"Director, let's begin now," a military officer said.
"Okay," Zhang Wenguang replied and walked onto the stage. He spoke into the microphone, "Ladies and gentlemen, Liu Shijiang is about to be promoted. We're taking this opportunity to congratulate him. Please ask him to dance for us."
Zhang Wenguang stepped down from the stage, and Liu Shijiang quickly jumped up and started dancing. His dance was energetic, jumping from one side of the stage to the other, occasionally speaking into the microphone.
Although Liu Shijiang was dancing, he was secretly observing the situation on the stage. He noticed a man in black clothes whispering something to Zhang Wenguang, who then walked out.
Liu Shijiang sensed that something was not right and felt uneasy. A moment later, he saw the man in black call out the military officer as well. Liu Shijiang realized that something was amiss and decided to take action.
In Zhang Wenguang's office...
"Who else was present at the scene?" Zhang Wenguang asked.
Liu Shijiang didn't answer but instead shot Zhang Wenguang dead. He then dropped his gun and quickly ran out of the room.
Several officers rushed to Zhang Wenguang's side, checking on him.
In a clothing store's backroom, Liu Shijiang sat with Zhao Hengchao, laughing and chatting.
"Any new developments?" Zhao asked.
"What about that woman?" Liu inquired.
"We're not quite sure; there were no instructions from above," Zhao replied.
"She seems to be more than just an ordinary person," Liu said, slightly annoyed.
"Do you want me to take care of her?" Zhao offered.
"No need for now; let's wait and see," Liu decided.
Zhao handed Liu a large envelope containing three gold bars and some gold certificates. "This is the activity fund from the organization. Be frugal with it."
Liu opened the envelope, looked inside, and then slammed his hand on the table. "I won't be stingy! I remember my share, but this activity fund can't be reduced!"
Zhao thought for a moment before saying, "Alright, I'll take care of it."
In the military police bureau's conference room...
Liu Shijiang, Mei Wenjie, Ma Jiping, and Liang Rujie were seated. Liu had his hand on the back of the chair, staring at his fingernails.
"Wei Zhipin presented a plan to protect Zhang Wenguang," Chen Yuru said, handing out documents.
Liu Shijiang was shocked but maintained his calm demeanor, still gazing at his nails. Mei Wenjie, however, kept glancing at Liu with an unusual expression.
"Zhang Wenguang's safety is our top priority. Let's execute the plan according to Vice Director Liang's proposal. If anything goes wrong, I'll hold you responsible," Chen Yuru said, eyeing his subordinates.
The meeting adjourned, and everyone left except for Mei Wenjie, who gave Liu a piercing stare before following the others out.
