Chapter 13: Iron Massacre

  Chapter 13: Iron Slaughter

The voices grew clearer, and a long line of armed men in Arab attire came into view, some carrying long guns, others carrying machine guns and rocket launchers. They gradually approached the foot of the mountain and the coconut grove. From their formation, Lem estimated that there were over a hundred of them. The terrorist at the front of the group entered Lem's 16 assault rifle range, and Lem pulled the trigger. "Bang" went the sound, and the terrorist fell to the ground. Immediately after, a burst of gunfire erupted, and with Lem's shots, the sounds of guns and cannons filled the air. From the ditch on the other side came the 203 grenade launcher and 249 machine gun, intercepting from the front. On the coconut grove and mountain slope were 72 rocket launchers, 80 mortars, as well as machine guns, submachine guns, and automatic rifles, all firing in a crossfire. The dense bullets seemed to be free of charge, pouring out like a stormy rain.

Liu Hu Zi crouched down beside Laimu and also opened fire, but unlike the American soldiers who sprayed bullets everywhere, he was calm and unhurried, pulling the trigger once to fire a single shot. Laimu laughed: "Save me bullets? There are plenty of bullets, no need to be so stingy."

"You know, you Americans have the largest arsenal in the world, and when you can't use it all up, you just throw it at Iraq. But, there's no need to be so extravagant," Liu Huizi said with a big grin on his face, "it's still better to shoot one shot at a time."

Laim looked through the night vision scope and observed Liu Hu's shooting spot, discovering that this guy was indeed a godly marksman. Every time he pulled the trigger, a black shadow would fall on the slope below. Laim counted, in less than two minutes, Liu Hu shot 12 bullets and there were twelve black shadows falling down.

"Have you been in a fight?"

  "For the first time."

  "Have you ever killed someone?"

  "For the first time."

"Not so simple, huh? First time on the job and you're already so efficient." Laim took an interest, "Don't go into business, come work with me instead."

"It's okay to play occasionally. If you're employed as a mercenary and lose your life, will it be under the Chinese flag or the American flag?"

  "I'll give you a five-star red flag."

"Alright, you promised Bush you wouldn't do it. Actually, if I really died, you could just cover me with a piece of tattered cloth. I think it's better to keep my head and earn some money honestly to go back to China."

  Laim burst out laughing.

As the battle erupted on this side of the path, on the other side of the road, Mike drove a Hummer, leading three armored vehicles with headlights blazing, firing cannons and rumbling towards this side. 40mm automatic grenade launcher shells and 105mm artillery shells screamed through the air like ghosts, landing at the rear of the terrorist group, forming a massive fireball that lit up half the sky. The terrorists were cut off by the cannonballs and could only run forward. At the front of the path was a dry ditch, where several terrorists who ran fast triggered anti-personnel landmines, and in the flashing explosion flames, severed limbs flew into the air, and those who were lucky enough not to die fell into the two-meter-deep ditch.

The cannon fire shook the heavens and earth, interspersed with wailing and howling cries of agony.

Zhao Hengyang and Hu Jinghai had never seen such a battlefield before? They only felt the ground shaking, the air trembling, Hu Jinghai tightly covering his ears, lying on his back behind a large stone. Zhao Hengyang wanted to stick his head out to take a look, but the US soldier responsible for protecting him immediately pressed his head back, not allowing them to make any reckless moves. This US soldier's responsibility was that if anything happened to Zhao Hengyang and the others, he would be held accountable.

After a round of artillery fire, Laim walked over, leaned in close to Zhao Hengyang and smiled: "Looks like you're still being honest, let me give you a treat." He handed him a pair of night vision binoculars.

"It's too much." Zhao Hengyang looked down with his binoculars and couldn't help but take a cold breath. "This isn't war, it's like a sci-fi movie with iron slaughter. We Chinese people don't even kill pigs and sheep this easily."

Tons of steel cannon fire continued to pour down densely, the terrorists didn't even have a chance to hide, let alone return fire. In the flashing explosion flames, the terrorists were like black silhouettes in a shadow play, shaking violently and falling to the ground after a few jumps. This was a devastating blow, a seamless annihilation. The terrorists had nowhere to go, no way out, and half an hour passed without even a scream being heard. Laim ordered a ceasefire, but the Humvees and armored vehicles continued to wreak havoc, their massive wheels slowly rolling back and forth on the small road, shooting out a few more bullets whenever they spotted any movement in the coconut grove. The only sound left on the small road was the rumble of the armored vehicle and Humvee tires, all else was silent.

Zhao Hengyang's teeth chattered as he said: "General Laim, isn't this massacre a bit too cruel?"

Laim smiled slightly: "Mercy for the enemy is cruelty for the people. Wasn't that said by a great Chinese leader?"

Zhao Hengyang was taken aback: "It's what we said."

"This sentence is very correct. Mercy to terrorists is cruelty to the people. Terrorists are enemies of the people, anti-human and anti-social, including China's East Turkistan separatists and Russia's Chechen separatists. They indiscriminately loot, kidnap, kill, set fires, plant bombs and create terror in airplanes, public buses, theaters, roads, squares and anywhere else they please. They even use human bombs and suicide bombers, treating their own lives as worthless and having no regard for the lives of others. Can you show sympathy and mercy to such terrorist organizations? The only way is to strike them hard and thoroughly destroy them."

Laim's tone was sonorous and his demeanor was stern, a look that Zhao Hengyang was very familiar with. He remembered his father saying similar things, even the tone and gestures were extremely similar. His older brother Zhao Yueyang had once joked: "It seems like the truth of this world is in the hands of Dad alone." This made Old Master so angry that he glared with wide eyes and didn't utter a word for half a day.

"What's on your mind?" Laim patted Zhao Hengyang's shoulder and said, "It's safe now, we can go down."

Zhao Hengyang, Liu Huizi, and Hu Jinghai followed Laim's team down the mountain slope. The soft road was littered with the bodies of terrorists, and the smell of gunpowder and blood filled their nostrils. Zhao Hengyang covered his nose, and Laim laughed: "This battlefield is just a small skirmish. You haven't experienced war. China's self-defense counterattack against Vietnam was much more brutal. Hundreds of tons of shells fell, and an entire regiment or division of people disappeared in an instant, turning into dust."

"Did you participate in the counterattack against Vietnam?" Zhao Hengyang said, and as soon as he spoke, he realized it was wrong. He was several years older than Laim, and hadn't even caught up with that war, let alone Laim, a foreigner? But strangely, on Laim's body, he saw his father's shadow, many of Laim's actions were very similar to his father's, if not for Laim's typical American appearance, he would have thought it was his father commanding the battle.
