Chapter One (18)
She picked up the steamed bun with chili sauce and carefully put it in her pocket.
"Why aren't you eating?" Tan Zhiyong stared at Gao Yidian and asked.
"I'll go report to the POW camp in a while, and eat again when I'm hungry."
"You little rascal, you've eaten your fill and now you think you can just swagger off like that? No way, you have to help us with some work before you can leave."
"You're expecting someone to work just because you ate a stale bun? You're being too unreasonable."
"You don't have to if you don't want to, then give the mantou back to me." Tan Zhiyong said and went to grab the mantou from a higher pocket.
Afraid that he would grab the bun back, he hastily said to Tan Zhiyong: "I'll help you with it, anyway, I'm going to report for duty early or late, it's all the same."
Tan Zhiyong smiled and patted the slightly taller shoulder. "This is about right," he said to a soldier. "Have him carry that large pot."
A soldier dragged over a large, heavy pot. Tan Zhiyong saw that it was placed on Gao's back and gave several soldiers a look. The soldiers understood and each carried something, closely following behind Gao, wanting to escape, but there was no door.
Carrying a big pot on his back, he walked and complained, "As soon as I joined the army, I wore a green hat. Now I'm carrying a black pot and suffering from your bullying. The four great misfortunes of being a young fool are just short of wearing small shoes. Damn Tan Zhiyong, you've made a big profit...".
Tan Zhiyong's mood was not bad, he knocked on the big pot behind him and said, "My shoe size is small, otherwise I'll exchange it with you, so as not to leave any regrets for you."
"Never mind, I'm not afraid of regret." Gao took a few quick steps forward, fearing that Tan Zhiyong would ask him to switch shoes.
A group of people walked forward, joking with each other, as close as brothers in the same class. Just after passing a big curve on the highway, a figure suddenly darted out from the side of the road, startling Tan Zhiyong and others, who simultaneously shone their flashlights over there.
"In the bright light, only one person was heard excitedly shouting: 'Gao Class Monitor, did you succeed?'"
Zhen Mei Nan
Almost fainted on the spot.
Two soldiers brought Zhen Meinan over. Tan Zhiyong looked at Zhen Meinan with suspicion, his expression guarded as he stared at him intensely.
"What's going on? Are you guys plotting something?"
Zhen Mei Nan was also stunned, and it wasn't until then that he clearly saw the person standing a little higher with him, was Lan Jun.
He took another step forward and was pulled back by Tan Zhiyong.
"Don't move, behave yourself."
He smiled slightly at Tan Zhiyong, "Come on, why are you guys so tense? This kid and I were both captured by your people before. We walked together to the prisoner-of-war camp, and halfway through, he said he was hungry. I saw that there were lights here, so I came to try my luck, and it turned out that I met an old acquaintance. That's all."
He spoke a little louder and took out the steamed bun from his pocket, throwing it at Zhen Meinan. Just as Zhen Meinan was about to bend down to pick up the steamed bun on the ground, Tan Zhiyong stepped on it with one foot.
Tan Zhiyong grasped Jin Meinan's neck like he was grabbing a small chicken, and menacingly asked: "Where is your Red Army armband? Is it hidden?"
Zhen Mei Nan's body trembled and stuttered: "Is... hidden..."
"Get out of here, you're sick! He's just a new recruit."
Tan Zhiyong yelled at the two soldiers behind him: "Hold him down for me, and I'll interrogate this new soldier first before coming back to interrogate him."
Two soldiers pressed down on him a bit harder, his body was pinned under the pot and he couldn't move.
"Where's the armband? Hand it over to me." Tan Zhiyong grabbed Zhen Meinan's collar again and asked.
Zhen Mei Nan's body shook even more violently.
"I hid it earlier... hid the sole of the shoe, but it was still found..."
"Who's searching?"
"Blue... Blue Army, your people... We have been captured once..."
Tan Zhiyong gazed at Zhen Meinan for a long time before slowly releasing his hand.
"Tell me, why didn't you and your senior classmate show up together?"
Zhen Mei Nan rubbed her neck and said tearfully: "I have an injury on my foot, I'm not as fast as him."
Tan Zhiyong picked up the flattened bun from the ground and handed it to Zhen Meinan, "Hungry?"
Zhen Mei Nan took over the steamed buns and nodded.
Tan Zhiyong said kindly: "Eat up, don't waste food."
