Chapter 21: Refusal of Love
They were a pair of gentle, shy but firm eyes.
Concerned, adoring, yet full of curiosity.
Everything is silent within.
Qiao Wen calmed down:
"I'll recite a poem for everyone, Dayan River."
As soon as the words fell, Wen Jing was the first to take the lead in applauding.
Everyone simultaneously turned their heads towards her, deliberately not following with applause, but instead burst out laughing together.
Yes, after being together for half a month, who can't see that Xiang Mei has feelings for Qiao Wen?
The Da Yan River is my nanny.
Her name is the same as the village where she was born.
She is a child bride.
The Da Yan River is my nanny.
I am the landlord's son.
Also grew up eating the milk of the Da Yan River
The son of the Da Yan River.
The Da Yan River raised me and nurtured her home.
And I was fed with your milk and raised
The Da Yan River, my nanny.
Dàyàn River, today I saw snow and thought of you:
Your snow-covered grassy tomb
The withered and dead tiles on the eaves of your closed former residence
Your one mu (about 0.0667 hectares) of garden land has been seized by Di'an.
The stone chair in front of your door has grown green moss.
Dàyàn River, today I saw snow and it reminded me of you.
You hold me in your thick palm and stroke me;
The author of this poem, Ai Qing, originally named Jiang Haicheng, was born in 1910 into a landlord family in Diantan Village, Jinhua, Zhejiang. "Dayan River - My Wet Nurse" is a poem with autobiographical elements that he wrote in prison in 1932. Qiao Yuwen has always loved it and can recite the whole poem from memory, full of emotion and persistence, looking back and gazing, turning and twisting, as he reads it aloud with deep feeling.
The Great Embankment River, today your son is in prison.
Writing a poem of praise for you
Presenting to you the purple soul under the yellow earth.
Extend your arms and give me a hug
The lips that kissed you are mine.
Presenting you with a warm and gentle dark complexion.
Presented to you by those who raised me
Present to your sons, my brothers,
Present unto him all those on earth
My big dam river-like nanny and her son
Presented to the love of me as if loving her own son, Da Ye River.
The Da Yan River, I grew up eating your fish.
Your son
I respect you
I love you
After finishing reciting the poem, Qiao Wen bowed deeply to everyone.
Thinking of my own life experience, I have a lot in common with the poet. Both from landlord families, both were progressive students who were imprisoned, and now fighting abroad. Although I don't regret running away from marriage back then, I still often think about my aging parents in my heart.
Thinking of this, his eyes grew hot.
The students once again remembered the warm applause!
After the party, everyone said goodbye and went their separate ways. When Wen was packing his luggage alone, someone knocked on the door lightly.
"Come in, it's open."
The door was pushed open, and Wenjing walked in. She had changed back into her military uniform, a plain grey Eighth Route Army uniform that looked particularly smart on her tall and slender figure.
"Please sit down." Wenjing stopped what he was doing and got up to move a stool over.
"Want to go out for a walk? The air outside is so fresh, it's too stuffy in the house. I want to talk with you." Wenjing gazed at him, not hiding her admiration.
This person in front of me usually looks like a weak and timid scholar, but once he is engaged in battle, he becomes bold and meticulous.
In the materials of the column, she had often seen the name Qiao Wen before. Those stories of cracking cases with a calm and clever mind made her, as a fellow practitioner, deeply convinced that he was an older wise old man.
Never thought I'd run into you at this training session.
What's more unexpected is that he is so young, only two years older than himself.
Wen looked at Wen Jing, and in her eyes, there was fervor, a request, but also a hint of stubbornness.
He can't refuse and doesn't want to refuse either. Some people, some things, are better off being laid out in the open.
He nodded slightly, extinguished the oil lamp, and casually closed the door as they walked out of the house in single file.
A bright moon slowly rises, and the entire mountain village is bathed in a crystal clear, watery moonlight. The stars twinkle with their eyes open and closed, as if telling ancient legends.
The sound of the wind, the chirping of insects, the gurgling of water, and the occasional barking of dogs formed a symphony of rural night. The countryside was so serene at night, but the hearts of two people were not calm.
It was only during the conversation that I learned about Wenjing's situation. It turned out that Wenjing also came from a large family in Hunan and was a genuine young lady. During her time at Nankai University, she actively participated in various anti-Japanese demonstrations. After the signing of the North China Autonomous Agreement, she joined her classmates in participating in various activities organized by the Tianjin Party organization. Later, responding to the call, she came to Shandong, which had fallen into enemy hands.
Talking about life, talking about ideals, talking about work, talking about the experience of intensive training classes.
Of course, love was also discussed.
Talked very late.
When they parted, she stood at the door of his residence, her chin slightly raised, her nostrils lightly flaring, her prominent chest heaving up and down, and said a few words very firmly:
You have the right to refuse, but I will wait for you!
After finishing speaking, she took a deep look at him, as if wanting to remember him in her heart, then turned around, with her back straight.
Back in the room, he couldn't fall asleep. Wen Jing's gentle and deep affection made him both sweet and trembling. He wasn't a person without emotions, it was just that since joining the Eighth Route Army, all his thoughts had been focused on killing enemies and serving the country.
No matter whether it's temperament, appearance or cultivation of character, Wen Jing makes herself impeccable. However, when thinking about work and the intense tasks ahead, she reminds herself not to be distracted by emotions for now. If there is a chance, let this feeling slowly undergo trials and tribulations in the midst of war.
Lying in bed, tossing and turning.
For some reason, the beautiful and sentimental Wen Jing appeared in front of him, and Qiao Wen suddenly remembered Zhou Ying from afar. It can be said that she was a person who had nothing to do with him, but only because he was entrusted by Xu Da Ge to write her a letter in his tone for a period of time.
A letter is a thread of thought.
Xu Weichang's guidance for himself was the biggest turning point in his life.
Xu Weichang handed over his own pen, far heavier than a rifle or a big knife.
Lost in thought, he unconsciously got out of bed and picked up his pen.
Xiao Ying, received your letter.
Your letter has been received. I understand that you're not feeling well and I feel very guilty about it. As the person you trust the most, I couldn't be by your side, which is an inescapable responsibility for me.
Every one of your sentences I have savored repeatedly, every one of your letters I have read many times over. I think that when the revolution finally triumphs, when we gaze back at each other with a smile, perhaps we will feel that the despair, pain and desperation of this moment are so insignificant.
Pull yourself together for your uncle's sake and mine, okay?
I'll tell you two detective stories, after listening, you must laugh, that's what makes a good comrade in the revolution.
。。。。。。
However, from the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War to the first half of 1939, it was the best period for the relationship between the KMT and the CPC in Shandong Province, with cooperation becoming the mainstream of the relationship between the two parties. Especially during the initial period when the Japanese army occupied Shandong, the KMT and CPC armies in Shandong attached great importance to national interests, jointly fought against Japan, and coordinated well with the front-line battlefield:
In September 1937, the Central Plains representative Zhang Jingwu and the chairman of the Nationalist Party's Shandong Provincial Government Han Fuqu reached a cooperation agreement: The Nationalist Party in Shandong released political prisoners; established a third route military and political training school with participation from both sides; opened a third route army political work personnel training class with instructors.
In October 1937, Shandong established a cooperative relationship with the Nationalist Party's Sixth District Inspector, Fan Zhuxian: successively sending out large numbers of cadres to Liao City, helping establish an anti-Japanese base in northwest Shandong covering over 30 counties including the sixth district.
Afterwards, during the Battle of Taierzhuang and the Wuhan Campaign, the Nationalist and Communist armies jointly launched large-scale raids on the Tianjin-Pukou Railway and Jiaozhou-Jinan Railway, cutting off the Japanese army's lines of communication multiple times.
However, since Shen Honglie took over as the chairman of the KMT Shandong Provincial Government, the die-hard right-wing forces of the KMT in Shandong he represented went crazy and disrupted the cooperation between the KMT and the Communist Party in Shandong, causing a huge change in the anti-Japanese base in Shandong.
In January 1939, after the Fifth Plenary Session of the Kuomintang's Fifth Central Committee formulated the guideline of "preventing communism, restricting communism and dissolving communism", the die-hard faction of the Kuomintang in Shandong Province, led by Shen Honglie and Qin Qirong, intensified their plot to restrict and dissolve communism, suppressing it from all aspects including military, politics and economy. The Military Bureau and Central Bureau of the Kuomintang quickly cooperated, expanding rapidly in Shandong, recruiting soldiers and buying horses to infiltrate and sabotage.
In February 1939, Shen Honglie proposed four restrictive measures for development at the provincial military and political conference held in Luchuan.
On March 30, 1939, the die-hard faction of the Kuomintang, led by Shang Zhibo, ambushed a group of cadres from the Third Detachment of the Shandong Column of the Eighth Route Army who were on their way to receive training in southern China, killing more than ten people including Bao Hui, director of the Political Department of the Third Detachment, and Pan Jianjun, commander of a regiment. Over 200 cadres and soldiers of the Eighth Route Army were also captured, leading to the infamous "Tahe Incident" that shocked the entire nation.
For a time, his arrogance was extremely overbearing.
"Rather reactionary than red", "It is possible to resist Japan, but it is impossible not to fight the Communists" - such counter-revolutionary slogans are on everyone's lips, and **friction** is frequent and intense.
At a time when bandits are rampant and the country is on the verge of collapse, how can such a phenomenon appear? Listen to my analysis:
First, the main reason was that at that time, the Kuomintang Central Committee, especially its leader Chiang Kai-shek, did not sincerely cooperate with the Communist Party of China. Instead, they only wanted to use the name of united resistance against Japan to restrict, weaken and cancel the Communist Party through superficial cooperation.
Secondly, the coldness and confrontation of today also come from the cruel struggle between the two parties over the past 10 years. In April and July 1927, the Chiang Kai-shek faction and the Wang Jingwei faction within the Kuomintang respectively launched counter-revolutionary coups in Shanghai and Wuhan, brutally massacring communists and revolutionary masses. Although China was a weak group at that time, they did not compromise and quickly stopped the leadership of Chen Duxiu, the Secretary-General of the Central Committee who had committed serious errors. They then proposed the slogan of armed seizure of power and fired the first shot against the Kuomintang's reactionary rule on August 1st in Nanchang. Since then, until the Xi'an Incident, until Zhang Xueliang sympathized with the Communists and retreated to the Northeast Army, giving Yan'an to the Red Army as its capital, the two parties and armies have been fighting and killing each other without stopping. The Red Army fought five encirclement campaigns in Jiangxi, and the old Chiang forced you to flee 25,000 miles. Now, Shandong has completely fallen into enemy hands, and there is no hope of winning the war. The extreme elements of the Kuomintang in Shandong have begun to "fight among themselves".
Thirdly, some extreme Kuomintang forces believed that although the KMT and CPC were cooperating, the KMT was the ruling party with strong military, political, and economic power, and was the leader of the war effort. Therefore, they could only participate in the war under the leadership of the KMT and obey its command. As a result, when Shandong developed its strength for the sake of the war and survival, especially when it established an anti-Japanese regime, they tried every means to suppress and destroy it, not only failing to provide support but also doing their utmost to sabotage and disrupt it.
In such a complex and intricate situation, although the great banner of cooperation between the KMT and the CPC is still waving, the Anti-Japanese National United Front is still being maintained and developed under **'s efforts. However, after the honeymoon period, setbacks and obstacles keep occurring every now and then.
The first and foremost is the intelligence frontline of the two parties and two armies of the KMT and CPC!
Qiao Wen returns from the intensive training class, what kind of severe test will he face? Taking over a tricky espionage infiltration case? Let's wait and see tomorrow!!
