Chapter 28 Work Problems - 1

  Insufficient balance

Xiangshui Village is just a small place, and even some trivial matters can spread quickly through the village's grapevine. Last year, Bao Yulin's high school graduation and enlistment in the army caused quite a stir. He was the first person from Xiangshui Village to join the army, and the villagers began to realize the importance of education, taking Bao as an example to encourage their children to study hard so that they could also follow in his footsteps and spend a few years in the army. At that time, this was almost the only way to escape the fate of being a farmer.

Who would have thought that this autumn, the central government's policy to clean up the "three kinds of people" came suddenly, and Bao Guoqiang changed overnight, jumping all the way to the town and becoming a leader (albeit an acting one). Although the Bao family's reputation in Xiangshui Village was not good, others had become city people after all. Don't look at how his wife and children's household registration couldn't be resolved immediately, that was just a matter of time, didn't Bao Guoqiang even give the land to his second brother to farm? This meant that he wouldn't be coming back! So the village children had another role model: as long as you understood politics, knew how to speak, and could build good relationships, you could also rise above the rest!

Actually, Bao Guoqing was still in a daze. When he first heard that he would be transferred to the town to serve as the deputy director of the Revolutionary Committee (acting), he almost got sick. It wasn't until this thing became real that he realized he had indeed been lucky.

The reason is that Bao Guoqing pondered for several months before he finally understood. It turned out that at the beginning, he had gone to the county town with a heavy heart and spent 200 yuan to give the director of the county revolutionary committee a few good cigarettes and two bottles of good wine, and also invited him to have a big meal at a restaurant. At that time, the director of the revolutionary committee promised to help find a way to let Bao Yucheng join the army. Who would have thought that in the end, his own son didn't make it, but instead let Bao Yulin take advantage of the situation. Bao Guoqing was so angry at the time! In his opinion, that guy must have been corrupted and eaten his money. However, under the circumstances at the time, he had no way to deal with the director of the county revolutionary committee, and could only swallow his anger. But whenever Bao Guoqing thought of those 200 yuan, he felt uncomfortable in his heart.

Unexpectedly, the opportunity came soon. In 1979, the central government issued a document about clearing up the "three kinds of people", and immediately afterwards, in July, it released a notice about renaming the revolutionary committees at all levels. Bao Guoqiang began to think about these things, he always felt that he had not caught up with the good times during the Cultural Revolution, because he was timid and did not mix into the county, now seeing the opportunity coming, how could he not make good use of it?

At that time, the county magistrate who had just been transferred to the county was severely suppressed by the director of the Revolutionary Committee, making the county magistrate very embarrassed. However, that guy was a local snake with deep roots in the county, and no one could do anything about him. Just as the county magistrate was considering how to carry out his work, an anonymous letter arrived at the county magistrate's hands. The letter not only listed the various misdeeds of the director of the Revolutionary Committee but also exposed his corruption and bribery problems. As a result, the new county magistrate was overjoyed and found Bao Guoqing according to the letter. Thus, Bao Guoqing became a model who dared to and bravely fought against the remnants of the "Gang of Four". After the cleanup work was basically completed, Bao Guoqing naturally filled the vacancy of the town's Revolutionary Committee director (acting) and is now waiting to become the town party committee secretary after the reorganization.

After analyzing all this clearly, Bao Guoqiang secretly congratulated himself that this was indeed "losing a horse to gain a blessing."

Bao Guoqing has been transferred to work in the county, so he naturally has to consider his family. As they say, "when one person achieves success, the whole family prospers." He can't just think about himself and must consider his family's well-being. His wife is illiterate and can't even write her own name, and she's not young anymore, so it's not necessary to worry about her. As long as she can cook and take care of the household, that's enough. However, he has to arrange for his children's futures. After all, Bao Guoqing is a leader in the town, and finding a unit to place them in shouldn't be difficult if they meet the conditions. The key problem is that his whole family are registered as rural households, and at that time, it was extremely difficult to change their household registration from rural to non-rural. His other children were easier to arrange for - no matter what, they had all graduated from middle school, so with some connections and face-saving, they were able to find placements. But when it came to his fourth child, Bao Yuchen, things became complicated. First, there were no more positions available, and secondly, Bao Yuchen hadn't even graduated from elementary school!

For Bao Yuzhen's sake, Bao Guoqiang racked his brains, but it was difficult to solve the problem for the time being. He had no choice but to wait. However, Bao Yuzhen was not cooperative and became more arrogant after arriving in town, thinking that he had a father who was the director of the Town Revolutionary Committee. In just a few days, he mixed with a group of local hooligans and caused trouble for Bao Guoqiang. To settle Bao Yuzhen down, Bao Guoqiang thought of countless ways.

  。。。。。。

The village of Xiangshui was in an uproar, as a large group of people had gathered at Bao Guohua's home. Everyone had heard that Bao Yulin had returned after being discharged from the army and had come to see the commotion. Although no one had served in the military before, they still knew some basic facts about military service. Soldiers in the army serve for three years, while those in the air force and navy serve for four years - these are the rules. Bao Yulin had only been with his unit for a year before being discharged, but it was unclear what problem had led to this.

Even if others didn't say anything, Bao Guohua's heart was already anxious. Although he knew his son's character and temperament clearly, this matter was indeed unusual. If they didn't explain it to the villagers, people would have doubts, and both his own face and his son's face would be ruined.

All day long, batches of people came to Bao Guohua's home. Bao Yulin repeatedly showed the wounds on his head and body to the villagers, then had to explain again and again that he was injured shortly after going to the battlefield, so he didn't make any achievements. Because of his injuries, he had to retire early. When Bao Yulin said this, he had tears in his heart, but still had to put on a sincere face. He couldn't tell the truth. The troops hadn't even investigated clearly, how could he explain it clearly? Even if he spoke out, someone would have to believe him! He himself could be reckless, but he still had a family, and they still had to hold their heads high in front of the villagers.

Every time a group of guests left, Bao Guohua would see them off at the door and then remind others that Bao Yulin was just back home to rest for a few days. In two days, his organization would arrange work for him, and by then he would be living on public expenses.

Bao Guohua's words put more pressure on Bao Yulin, he knew that in general, veterans would be arranged to work, but after all, it was a special situation. Now that he is back in China, he really doesn't know how to deal with it. Who knows if they will arrange for him? Bao Yulin really didn't know what his future would be like.

  。。。。。。

After waiting at home for a few days, Bao Yulin couldn't wait any longer. He decided to go ask in person and see how he was arranged.

  。。。。。。

The armed forces department of Panshi County did a great job in resettling retired soldiers this year. Having just gone through the Sino-Vietnamese War, the image of soldiers was greatly enhanced, and it was easy to solve the problem of resettling retired soldiers. Various units were competing to take them in. Unlike usual times, when arranging for one person would require finding several units, this time they had just finished a busy period and were looking forward to taking a break as the new year approached. However, just at that moment, a supplementary list of retired soldiers arrived at the armed forces department.

Due to the need for the file to go through another process, it's impossible to rush things. As for this person named Bao Yulin, I can only understand him through his discharge order. Minister Lü repeatedly flipped through the discharge and resettlement order: In view of Comrade Bao Yulin's physical and mental suffering during his captivity in Vietnam, he is no longer suitable for continued service in the army. It has been decided that this comrade will be honorably discharged from active duty and return to his hometown, where local government will arrange work for him.

Minister Lü was one of the earliest participants in the revolution, having fought many battles and understood the cruelty of war. He had been waiting for Bao Yulin to arrive. Minister Lü really wanted to know how Bao Yulin's body and mind were severely damaged after being captured. Had the enemy beaten him? Or how did they torture him?

  。。。。。。

Lü the Minister had been thinking about Bao Yulin for the past two days. He could understand that after just returning from the troops, it was normal to go home and wait for a few days before reporting back. As a result, on this afternoon as soon as he went to work, he was blocked at the door by Bao Yulin.

Bao Yulin arrived at the armed forces department at noon, but there was no one in the armed forces department. He guarded the door of the minister's office and saw Minister Lü take out the key to open the door. He hastily stood up straight and saluted, "Report, I am Bao Yulin, this is my discharge certificate." Both hands handed over the discharge certificate.

"Oh, you're Bao Yulin! Come on in and take a seat!" Director Lü was very courteous as he welcomed Bao Yulin into his office. After all, anyone who had come from the battlefield deserved respect.

"I've been waiting for you for two days, tell me, what are your thoughts on the work ahead?" Minister Lü poured a cup of water for Bao Yulin and sat down, pulling out Bao's discharge order as he asked.

"I have nothing, I will resolutely implement the organization's arrangements!" Bao Yulin said firmly, one was a habit, and the other, he had no bottom line in his heart.

"I heard you were captured in Vietnam, what's the story?" The Minister Lü had been thinking about this question for two days, and he really wanted to know.

"I..." Bao Yulin stuttered, he didn't know what to say. For this, the political department's political review committee had already asked him for several months.

"Don't be nervous, I'm just asking casually. Things on the battlefield are hard to say, as long as you have a clear conscience, that's all!" Minister Lü comforted Bao Yulian.

As soon as Bao Yulin heard the word "conscience clear", he suddenly gained confidence: "Report to the minister, I was captured after being injured, don't you believe me?!" As he said that, Bao Yulin lifted up his clothes.

The scar on his abdomen suddenly appeared, and Lyu Zong was an experienced person. At a glance, he saw that this was indeed a recent injury, and it was a penetrating wound.

"Wow, Xiao Bao, you're really lucky. Such a severe injury didn't take your life, you can be considered to have a big destiny. How did this happen?" Director Lü couldn't imagine that if such an injury had occurred during the Liberation War era, it's very likely that he would have died from infection.

"Our troops were on a penetration mission, and later we were ambushed by the enemy. This wound was from our own artillery fire, I was lucky to have dodged through a hole, nothing else was hurt, unfortunately my squad was left with only me... then..." Bao Yulin wanted to continue speaking, during this political review period, he had already gotten used to repeating this experience. Just at this moment, the phone on Director Lü's desk rang.

"Wait a minute, I'll take this call." Minister Lü gestured with his hand for Bao Yulian to pause for a moment while he took the call.

".... is! Immediately go to the county committee meeting!" "...." "I understand, I'll be right there!" Although wearing a military uniform, Director Lü was still a standing member of the county committee, this was habitual.

After hanging up the phone, Minister Lü was busy packing things while telling Bao Yulin: "Little Bao, I'm busy today, I'll have someone take you to the Public Security Bureau for reporting later, and they will arrange everything." As he spoke, without waiting for Bao Yulin to react, he loudly called out: "Little Huang, come over here!" Originally, it wasn't easy to get into the Public Security Bureau, with several retired soldiers keeping watch. But Minister Lü thought that a good unit should of course be given to comrades who performed well in the army. Although Bao Yulin had been captured, he was helpless and injured. For a comrade who had sacrificed for the country, giving him a good unit wasn't excessive.

Lü Bùzhǎng didn't get to hear the end of Bāo Yùlín's words, he thought that after being ambushed, Bāo Yùlín was captured by the Vietnamese and for someone in his situation, retiring from the army is very normal.

  。。。。。。

Bao Yulin dazedly followed Xiao Huang to the Public Security Bureau to report. What was originally thought to be a difficult matter was resolved just like that.

The leader of the Public Security Bureau, upon hearing that Bao Yulin was a veteran who had been to the Vietnam battlefield, agreed to accept him without hesitation. Considering his injuries and family situation, he was assigned to the town police station. Of course, since Bao Yulin's file had not yet arrived, he could only be temporarily appointed and would be formally transferred after his file arrived.

Like this, Bao Yulin took off his military uniform and changed into a police uniform to return to Xiangshui Village. Seeing Bao Yulin wearing the police uniform, Bao Guohua was so happy that he didn't know what to say.
