Insufficient balance
Wang Ping and Wang Zheng took Pak Yuk-lin to a construction site, which was a large-scale building project. It didn't matter who the building was for, what mattered was that the boss of the site, Ma Biao, was a kind-hearted person. He not only employed many Vietnamese refugees but also took care of some fellow villagers who had sneaked into Hong Kong. Although the wages were a bit lower and were paid every three months, it was worth it because they got food and lodging, and there were no police from Hong Kong to bother them. As a result, more and more stowaways gathered at this site through connections with relatives and friends. Everyone also heard that Boss Ma had some connection with the Hong Kong police, so everyone hoped to work for him long-term, expecting that one day they would be granted amnesty and get a long-term employment certificate, which could be exchanged for a Hong Kong identity card.
Bao Yulin's thoughts were similar to everyone else's, and he believed that by changing his identity as a Hong Kong person, he could live a decent life. Although the wages on this construction site were not high, they were still much higher than those in mainland China, and Bao Yulin was satisfied with that.
In Bao Yu Lin's view, a person's energy is inexhaustible. Since he wants to stand out, he must work hard and strive for success. Being young, he has to put in his best efforts to achieve something and possibly return to Xiangshui Village.
Bao Yulin was originally clueless about construction, but once he had an ideal and a goal to strive for, he worked hard towards it. He didn't care if someone was Chinese or Vietnamese; in his eyes, everyone was the same - they were all struggling to make a living here. Although there were many Chinese people on the construction site, there were also quite a few Vietnamese people, among whom some had pretty good skills. In order to learn new skills, Bao Yulin gradually began to consciously interact with some Vietnamese people, not for any other reason than hoping to pick up some skills and become a skilled worker sooner.
Actually, the technical level of Vietnamese people on construction sites is relatively higher, which is normal. Most of the stowaways from China are rural farmers who have no culture and are often lazy. In contrast, most Vietnamese workers were originally middle-class people in Vietnam who fled to escape war and had a relatively high cultural level and slightly stronger technical skills.
Due to his diligence and inquisitiveness, combined with his quick hands and feet, everyone has taken notice. However, since China and Vietnam had just fought a war, many people did not understand Bao Yulian's actions, and there were many rumors circulating behind his back. But Bao Yulian didn't care; the battlefield had taught him about life and death, and upon reflection, he realized that human relationships are cold and warm. He understood that for one to stand tall and firm, relying on others or playing tricks is all fake; only by relying on oneself can one truly do so!
Gradually, there were fewer Vietnamese people on the construction site and more Chinese people. Everyone could understand this. After all, Vietnamese workers are legal laborers, and their wages must be paid in accordance with Hong Kong law, while Chinese workers are illegal immigrants without labor protection, doing mostly small jobs, so their wages are much lower. Nevertheless, the number of Chinese people on the construction site continued to increase day by day.
However, Bao Yulin's salary rose quickly. In a few months, he not only stumbled over some Cantonese words but also learned a lot of Vietnamese phrases. The key is that Bao Yulin didn't slack off compared to anyone else, and his skills were passable. He wasn't quite qualified to be a master craftsman, but when it came down to it, he could handle the task at hand. Ma Biao took note of this and remembered it well. Bao Yulin was diligent in his work and didn't talk much; one person could do the job of two, so someone like him had to be taken care of.

As the workload on the construction site was decreasing, it was supposed to be payday. However, Ma Biao gathered all the workers and told them that since the project was about to end, he had invested a lot of his own funds, so there were some temporary difficulties with cash flow. Nevertheless, Ma Biao promised that as soon as the project payment came through, he would immediately distribute the wages and give everyone a red envelope as a bonus. However, Ma Biao also said that everyone needed to work overtime for the next few days to rush the project out, so he could receive a reward from the investor, which he could then use to distribute bonuses to everyone.
Everyone naturally believed Ma's words, after all, it was reasonable and he had never delayed paying workers' wages before. With that said, everyone worked more efficiently and the project progressed faster.

Vietnamese workers are not all qualified to work, they must first obtain a permit, confirmed by the International Refugee Organization, and only those with a clean record and no hidden agenda will be granted work qualifications. On Ma Piao's construction site, anyone who is willing to work hard is wanted, even some underage children, as long as they can do the job, he wants them. Of course, there are big differences in salary treatment.
As the project was about to end, that night, Ma Biao asked the canteen to buy more meat to improve the food for Chinese workers. Vietnamese refugees were not allowed to stay outside at night, and a few Vietnamese masters who had a good relationship with Bao Yulin insisted on pulling Bao Yulin back to the refugee camp together, saying that there was a child celebrating his 100th day today, and everyone helped him celebrate.
Bao Yulin had a good relationship with several Vietnamese masters, who taught him many things. Bao Yulin helped them with their work and they would occasionally bring him delicious food to eat. Sometimes, they even invited Bao Yulin to visit their "home" in the refugee camp as a guest. After the first time, it wasn't strange anymore, and Bao Yulin followed the Vietnamese masters to the refugee camp again.
On the construction site, a group of Chinese stowaways were quite happy, after all, they had a good meal. As for where Bao Yulin went, they didn't care, only Wang Zheng and Wang Ping, two brothers, complained a few words, saying that Bao Yulin did not cherish brotherly love, and followed the Vietnamese devils to indulge in food and drink.
At this time, Ma Biao was discussing with his brother-in-law at the Hong Kong Royal Police Bureau.
"I've arranged for everyone to be on standby, when are you going to make your move?" The police chief asked Ma Feng while sipping his liquor.
"Brother-in-law, don't worry, I've got everything ready. The Vietnamese have all returned to the refugee camp by now, and the remaining stowaways will get an extra serving tonight. Let them eat their fill before we do anything else. After all, these people have been helping me with my work for so long." Ma Biao clinked glasses with his brother-in-law.
"This is also, but your move is really good, you managed to think of it." The police chief finished the wine in his cup.
"What else can we do? Just give them a few months' salary for nothing? There are many people in our place." Ma Biao said expressionlessly.
"It's not your fault." The director took a small sip: "Who let them sneak over, can't they just work in this household? It's also a lesson for them."
"I'm telling you, brother-in-law, don't make it sound so good, they're taking half of your salary. After drinking this cup, the police station should also get moving." Ma Biao had a slightly complaining tone, he wasn't willing to let someone take his money away, but fortunately, that person was his own sister's husband. Besides, his brother-in-law had already helped him a lot.
"It's all right, you don't have to worry about it anymore. I'll take care of the things on the construction site, and don't be heartbroken over that little money either. It was your sister who wanted this, she said she would give you a good car when you get married, and she didn't even let me tell you." The director had no choice, his wife's words were the truth, not listening wasn't an option.

That night, Bao Yulin got drunk. All the stowaways on the construction site were taken back to the police station by the police without exception. What awaited them was deportation.
Bao Yu-lin was unable to collect his three months' wages, and a few Vietnamese masters took pity on him and put him on a refugee boat that branched off to Europe. When he woke up, all he had left were the blue sky and sea, and memories of that lovely little baby.
