Chapter Twelve: The Great Completion Nation
After an unknown period of time, Li Mingfeng slowly opened his eyes and felt the bumps beneath him, realizing he was in a horse-drawn carriage. Looking at the brocade quilt covering him and the silk long shirt and trousers neatly folded beside him, he secretly wondered why these assassins were treating him so well. Did they really think he was an undercover agent? But hadn't he shouted "Everyone follow me to charge in" just before that?
He took out the silver ticket and counted it, not one was missing. He lifted the curtain of the horse carriage and saw that the distant mountains were quickly retreating, knowing that they had already left Guangzhou City.
There were more than a dozen robust men with red headscarves riding horses beside the carriage, guarding it. It seemed that these people were those black-clad men from yesterday.
When Li Mingfeng woke up, a red scarf man turned his head and gave him a cold glance. With just one glance, Li Mingfeng felt a chill run down his spine and quickly pulled down the curtain.
These people didn't have queues, it seems they are the rebel army that overthrew the Qing Dynasty. This kind of person is the most radical, Li Mingfeng secretly warned himself not to provoke them, and quickly changed into the clothes they gave him in the carriage, folding up his Western suit. This suit had followed him to this Qing Dynasty, it couldn't be lost.
The horse carriage had been traveling for two or three hours, and Li Mingfeng's stomach was churning. Just as Li Mingfeng could no longer bear it, the horse carriage stopped, a man pulled open the curtain, and gestured for him to follow.
Li Mingfeng didn't dare to disobey, and followed him down from the horse carriage. Looking around, he found that they had arrived at another city. The man took Li Mingfeng to a grand mansion with high gates, dismissed the other horsemen, led Li Mingfeng into the main hall of the mansion, and without saying a word, turned around and walked out again.
He sat alone in the great hall, and at this moment Li Mingfeng did not think of escaping. When someone catches you, can't you have some defensive measures? As long as you run, you may not be able to get out of this mansion before being caught back, and if you're unlucky, you'll be beaten with dozens of whips. Besides, where could he go? He had been sitting in the horse carriage for so long, and this place was at least over a hundred miles away from Guangzhou, and it was obviously impossible to get there on foot.
They sat quietly for three or four hours, and the sky gradually darkened. Several men with red scarves on their heads came into the hall, lit two candles, and then retreated.
It wasn't until it was completely dark outside that a few more people came in through the door.
Look at a few people, the one in the middle who is leading them is precisely the person who ordered others to knock me out yesterday.
This middle-aged man walked onto the stage and sat down in the chair next to Li Mingfeng, looking at him with some surprise. Generally speaking, when a captive sees the enemy commander, they are usually frightened out of their wits and beg for mercy. There are also some who are not afraid of death, and when they see the enemy commander, they break into loud curses. But a captive as calm as Li Mingfeng is rarely seen.
After the others who followed the middle-aged man sat down, the middle-aged man said with a smile: "This brother is good at calmness, and he is still so calm after entering the enemy's camp. I, Sima Ping, have never seen this in my life."
Li Mingfeng looked at Sima Ping with an expressionless face: "This gentleman is mistaken, Mingfeng still doesn't know whether you people are enemies or friends."
Siman Ping didn't expect Li Mingfeng to say that, and thought that he had been a bit rash in defining their relationship as enemies from the start: "Maybe I was wrong, who knows, maybe we can really become friends."
Li Mingfeng and the others had figured it out hours ago, that their "unique" attire would be recognized, no matter what. It seems these people knew their background and were seeking something from them.
Li Mingfeng didn't want to beat around the bush with this person, so he directly got to the point: "Mingfeng is a straightforward person and doesn't like to go around in circles when discussing things. Since you've brought me here, sir, just say what you have to say."
The several men sitting opposite heard Li Mingfeng's words and were somewhat enraged, for they had always prided themselves on being straightforward and chivalrous, yet Li Mingfeng said they were not frank enough and even ridiculed them for not inviting people in a proper manner but rather abducting them. How could these heroic guests not be angry?
Some people were about to get angry, but Sima Ping waved his hand and calmed them down. He turned to Li Mingfeng and said: "Brother, you're right. I was being petty and narrow-minded, just like those corrupt officials."
Simapeng took out a seal from his sleeve and handed it to Limingfeng, saying: "I am the General of Pacifying Bandits under the command of Pingjing King of Dacheng Country. This is the seal, please verify."
Li Mingfeng took the seal, and his mind felt dizzy. Da Cheng Guo? Never heard of it. Only knew about the Great Qing Dynasty in Beijing, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom in Nanjing, and the Nian Army was also somewhat prominent, where did this Da Cheng Guo come from.
He returned the seal to Sima Ping, and Li Mingfeng smiled awkwardly: "I don't understand these things, sir. Since you say you are a general of that king of Dasheng State, I believe it."
Before the words had fallen, a Han man opposite jumped up, his eyes bloodshot, and roared: "You little bastard, don't toast without drinking, drink a penalty! Insulting us brothers is one thing, but you dare to insult Prince Wang, are you looking to die?!" After speaking, he wanted to pull out the dagger from his waist.
A cold hum came from Sima Ping, and the man stood still as if frozen, took a few deep breaths, then turned around and walked out of the hall.
Simaping's gaze swept across the faces of several others, and finally he let out a slight sigh: "You guys go out." Several men glared at Li Mingfeng with some resentment, but they didn't dare disobey Sima Ping's order, and walked out with gloomy faces.
After a few people left, Sima Ping bowed his hands to Li Mingfeng and said with a hint of apology: "It's all because I didn't teach them well in the past, letting them be so arrogant. Little brother, your accent is not from the two Guangs, I don't know if it's normal for the peaceful king."
Li Mingfeng also felt a little embarrassed: "I'm afraid I don't know much about it, could you please help me understand?"
Simaping realized that Limingfeng had such an attitude, only to know that he really hadn't heard of Pingjing Wang. Pitifully, his own group still thought they were superior and arrogant. Sima Ping felt that his old face was also a bit unbearable, the other party didn't even know Ping Jing Wang, and he, the bandit general, was showing off in front of him.
As Sima Ping spoke, Li Mingfeng finally understood what the Great Achievement Country was all about. After the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom uprising, there were large-scale uprisings in various regions across the country, and the Nian Army was just one of them. This Great Achievement Country was actually built by the Tiandihui uprising in the two Guang provinces.
