Chapter 1: Crimson Dusk

  Chapter 1: Blood-colored Dusk

Bambuti Forest, meaning "Land of the Hunters" in Nigerian language, is just twenty-six kilometers from Uganda UN Peacekeeping Force Camp. Due to Nigeria's ongoing civil war and chaotic domestic politics, international peacekeepers were ineffective before UN intervention.

Two days ago, a group of refugees consisting of M Country's SEAL Team Two assault unit and F Country's Foreign Legion "Glaire" combat group, plus some unknown "Braves" from an international mercenary organization, as well as 376 journalists, missionaries, doctors, businessmen and others from all over the world were surrounded here. Sixty-nine armed personnel had to protect 376 civilians while facing a rebel army of over a thousand men.

Affected by the tropical low pressure, the originally airborne-supported Independence Carrier Battle Group was unable to fulfill its duties. After so-called "consultations", the SEALs and the "Graier" Task Force escorted refugees to retreat, while the "Brave" stayed behind to cover them, they needed at least ten hours of time.

Under the rebel's fierce attack, "Warrior" stubbornly counterattacked and temporarily repelled the rebel pursuit. However, at midnight, the rebels who were eager to capture hostages called in S-300 Grad 120mm heavy howitzers, and the "Warrior"'s defensive line was breached.

Under the night sky, everywhere was a dense crowd of people's shadows, everywhere were freely flying tracer bullets, M4A1 carbine, AUG automatic rifle, AK47 assault rifle, AK74 assault rifle, AK102 assault rifle, and M249Q light machine gun converged into a song of death.

M1911A semi-automatic pistols, tactical knives and even wooden clubs, stones, teeth - the "warriors" used everything that could injure or delay the enemy, but they couldn't stop the rebels' frenzied counterattack.

Five rebel soldiers formed a standard triangular tactical formation, cautiously advancing on the battlefield. Last night's mercenaries resisted like martyrs, causing heavy casualties for the 47th Tactical Unit, with over three hundred people left in the ill-fated Bamburg Forest, and the 47th Tactical Unit has been stuck at the edge of the forest for twenty-nine hours.

The 47th Battalion is a sharp sword in the hands of the rebels, formerly known as the Presidential Guard, has been guided by highly paid foreign military advisers for many years, and its personnel quality, weapon equipment, and combat will are all the best in Nigeria!

But now, the Forty-Seventh Tactical Unit is as if cursed by misfortune. The enemy hiding in the dark forest appears and disappears like a ghost, knowing no fear, not afraid of death!

The rebel commander, Uden, stood on the DSU infantry fighting vehicle, gazing out at the bodies of the fallen soldiers at the edge of the forest. His hand holding the binoculars was trembling slightly, and one of his own men, who had been shot in the head, was still convulsing. He had been executed on the spot for refusing to lead the troops into the forest, but Uden's subordinates were all kneeling on the ground, begging for the true god's forgiveness, asking for help in fighting against the devil.

Suddenly, a flock of birds took flight in the jungle, and the five rebel soldiers who had been searching in a triangular formation fell to the ground in different postures, covered in blood. Two were shot in the back of the head, two had their throats cut, and one was even killed by a section of tree vine that pierced his ear!

The wireless operator, still shaken by Uden's death, reported that two more five-man teams had lost contact. A white man standing not far away, wearing a digital camouflage uniform with a double-headed snake tattoo on his arm, put down the German Zeiss professional military binoculars and said: "What a persistent guy! We've already completed our mission, but he doesn't want us to enjoy the honor of sweeping the battlefield as winners?"

In the canopy of Bambusa forest, two hundred meters above, a figure clad in "Ghillie" suit sat upright on the tree, using a sitting posture to hold the Uden in the aiming mirror with bared teeth and claws, making slight adjustments to the scale.

This is a jungle camouflage-colored M24 sniper weapon system, commonly abbreviated as M24 SWS, a military version of the Remington 700 rifle, known for its high accuracy. A blood-stained finger gently rested on the trigger, paused for two seconds as if adjusting breathing, and then fired decisively!

  Bang!

After the M24 sniper rifle was fired, a puff of blue smoke came out of the muzzle. To everyone's surprise, the sniper simply abandoned his sniper rifle and climbed down the tree like an agile monkey, identified the direction and quickly disappeared into the dense forest.

Wu Dengshang's head burst like a watermelon hit by a stick, and his body fell to the ground. The gunshot sounded in the forest only after he was accurately hit! Long-range shooting!

But this shooting has infinite blindness and fear, the target has long since disappeared.

"****!" Under the command of the military adviser, the 47th Tactical Unit fired all the shells they carried into the forest and then left with Uden's body, without even having the courage to re-enter the forest to confirm the outcome!

Hours later, under the crimson sunset, a tardy Chinook helicopter escorted by two Apaches and a Super Cobra returned the SEAL team that had hastily retreated back to the battlefield that was rightfully theirs.

This was a failed operation. Although the SEAL team escaped unscathed and the "Gray" task force also successfully evaded the rebel pursuit, more than a dozen foreign journalists went missing, and dozens of refugees died in the disaster area. The previous commander of the action team, Lieutenant Colonel Raisen, had already been dismissed and handed over to the Navy's military law department for handling.

They seem to have forgotten that unknown "Brave" team! The purpose of returning to the Bambusa Forest is not to sweep the battlefield, nor is it to find those missing refugees.

Refugees are a good bargaining chip in their eyes: A humanitarian crisis is happening here! This is a grand reason for M country to maintain its military presence overseas. As for the SEALs and the "Gleeful" combat group, their mission is to uphold so-called "justice" and "peace".

But the "rebels" seemed to have given them no chance and had already fled in disarray.

The night in the Bambusa forest is extremely terrifying, the dark and primitive forest is like a giant black hole, making people dare not approach. The humid air is filled with gunpowder smoke, mixed with the smell of blood, which rushes to the nose, and the occasional howling of wild beasts adds to the fear.

"Clear out!" James, the lieutenant colonel in charge of the operation, furrowed his brow and gave a cold order with a sweep of his eyes over the dark night sky.

The cleanup lasted for an hour, and thirty or so bodies were laid out on the wasteland.

  "Report! Area cleared!"

  "How many people died?"

  "Thirty-four people!"

  "How many Warriors died?"

  "Not one shall survive!"

No one survived? That means the entire mercenary army was annihilated? James scanned the corpses on the ground: "As far as I know, there were 28 warriors in the Brave Army, but there are only 27 bodies here!"

Mercenaries can be identified at a glance, as their attire is completely different from that of refugees. Professional mercenaries have no specific enemies, everything is for money. People die for wealth, and when people die, wealth scatters.

  Seven refugees died.

"It's Blood Letter Gang! They're finally annihilated!!!!!!!!!!"

A burst of sinister laughter tore through the night sky, a lewd face buried in the corpse, letting out a beast-like howl...

"The Brave Warriors" accomplished their mission of blocking with distinction, but at the cost of total annihilation.

"Bury it on the spot!" Colonel James looked up at the black sky. For the honor of the soldiers, everything here should be erased!

"Principal Zhong, we should get them out of Bambusa Forest!"

Get out of this godforsaken place? James had never thought about it. Most of these mercenaries were warmongers or suffered from war syndrome, they liked killing, they liked wilderness warfare, and only burying them here was the most suitable!

This is determined by national interests and has nothing to do with justice. If everything here is exposed, the country's reputation and military honor will be lost!

  "Bury!"

"There's another one alive! Quick... medic..."
