Inferno (Part 2)

Volume 1: The Fierce Tiger Leaves Its Leash Chapter 17: Blazing Flames Shooting Up Into the Sky (Part 2)

When he put on the third magazine, Ling Tianxiang began to be suppressed by the US military's machine gun fire and couldn't lift his head. The assaulters in the previous squad had reacted that the sustained firepower of the assault rifle was not enough, and they should find a way to equip the assault rifle with larger magazines, such as the ammunition box of the machine gun. Ling Tianxiang thought it was nothing at the time, after all, he was a sniper, and his most executed task was a one-shot kill mission, for him, one bullet or thirty bullets, or one hundred bullets didn't make much difference. But now, Ling Tianxiang also understood why the assaulters would complain about not having enough bullets, if he hadn't changed those two magazines, he could have taken out at least five more US machine gunners.

The bullets hit the steel desktop with a "crackling" sound, making Ling Tianxiang feel a bit chilled to the bone. He didn't know if the steel plate could withstand .50 caliber heavy machine gun bullets. Thinking of this, he shifted to the side, and indeed, several bullets shot through the steel plate and landed where he had initially taken cover. Ling Tianxiang wiped the sweat from his forehead, quickly peeked out to look at the position of the heavy machine gun, then pulled back in, and several bullets rapidly hit the ground where he had just poked his head out.

Damn it! Ling Tianxiang cursed silently, looking at Swirely who was struggling on the ground. The guy had already been awakened, his eyes wide with fear staring at Ling Tianxiang. "What are you looking at? I'm not keeping you because you're useful, otherwise I would have shot you long ago." Swirely seemed to think that the US military couldn't win this battle, and struggled even harder. Ling Tianxiang didn't bother with him anymore.

The fighting outside was extremely fierce, with shells falling from time to time. Ling Tianxiang would take advantage of the shell falls to flash out a few shots and then quickly retreat back. After he attracted some of the US military's machine gun fire, the armed personnel outside accelerated their attack, greatly reducing their losses.

When he put on the fourth magazine, Ling Tianxiang had already killed at least twenty US soldiers, but there were at least a few hundred US soldiers outside. Continuing to fight like this would not be beneficial for him. Thinking of this, Ling Tianxiang took advantage of the moment when the artillery shell landed and exploded to flash out and aim at a machine gunner on a "Stryker". Before the machine gunner could see clearly, he pulled the trigger. The three bullets shot out in burst mode all hit the machine gunner's upper body. Even if most US soldiers wore bulletproof vests, within a distance of less than 100 meters, even with an additional layer of steel plate on the bulletproof vest, it would be difficult to withstand rifle bullets, especially the SS109-type rifle bullets that originally had stronger penetration power.

When Ling Tianxiang retreated, he found that the US military was withdrawing to the outer perimeter. First, most of the "Hummer" military vehicles were transferred in the direction of the south gate of the camp, and the slightly thicker armored "Stryker" stayed behind. The US military who got off the vehicle for combat used the vehicle body as cover, slowly retreating southward with the withdrawal, without blindly getting on the vehicle to retreat. He poked his head out to look at the armed personnel on the west side of the camp and found that some armed personnel had already rushed into the camp, relying on warehouses and containers as cover, advancing towards the command center. The main forces fighting against the armed personnel over there were mostly mercenaries. The combat effectiveness of these mercenaries was not inferior to that of the US military, and even stronger, because most of the mercenaries were originally retired US soldiers, some of whom were even retired special forces.

After taking a clear look at the situation, Ling Tianxiang immediately felt that something was not quite right, and soon realized that the US military must have called for support, and it was even possible that they had called for air support. The US bombers might already be on their way, and bombs could drop down at any moment, so the US military would hurry to withdraw to avoid being bombed. This is a standard tactic of the US military, if they can't win on the ground, they directly call for air support.

Damn it! Ling Tianxiang cursed in his heart, then looked around. The US military's air support usually arrives within five to ten minutes, which means he must leave before that. Soon, Ling Tianxiang's gaze fell on the still-standing rear wall, and he could only retreat from behind, and quickly.

After thinking for a moment, Ling Tianxiang immediately crawled towards the back wall, but just as he had crawled a few meters, a large hole suddenly exploded on the back wall. When the explosion occurred, Ling Tianxiang reflexively covered his head, and when he lifted it up again, a familiar face had already appeared in front of him.

"Maide, how did you get here?" Ling Tianxiang looked at the village teacher who was still wearing a long robe and holding an AK-47 assault rifle in his hand, no longer doubting that Maide was a true warrior.

"We're here to rescue you." Maddy crouched beside Ling Tianxiang, "Let's hurry, the US bombers have left the airport and will arrive soon."

"I know," Ling Tianxiang nodded, and suddenly he thought of something. "Wait for me, I still need to bring some things out. Have you seen that trunk over there? Help me carry it."

Matty immediately went to pick up the "Plyken" safe, and when he turned around, Ling Tianxiang had already untied Swillie from the chair.

"What are you going to do?" Sweili struggled desperately.

"Shut the hell up!" Ling Tianxiang immediately gave Swillie a rifle butt, then swiftly shouldered the unconscious intelligence officer.

Maddy hesitated for a moment, then first drilled out of the blown-out opening, and Ling Tianxiang followed. Because they were shielded by the container, the US military couldn't threaten them at all. After running north for over 50 meters, Maddy stopped, and only when Ling Tianxiang caught up did he discover that in the barbed wire on the outskirts of the camp, there was a passage that could accommodate one person. Apparently, these armed personnel had arrived early, but they didn't rush to take action. Instead, they first dug this escape tunnel.

"You go first!" Maddy said, pointing down at the ground.

Ling Tianxiang didn't hesitate, quickly tying the rope binding Swire to his own waist, then crawling into the tunnel. This way, he could drag his "prey" through the tunnel without worrying about it being too narrow for two people to pass through. As for what state Swire would end up in, that wasn't Ling Tianxiang's concern - as long as he was still alive, that was enough.

The tunnel was about fifty meters long, and when Ling Tianxiang crawled out, he immediately noticed a group of armed personnel outside. He watched them warily. Soon, Maddy also climbed out, and he immediately sensed that the atmosphere was not quite right. He shouted a few words at the armed men, and their gazes became slightly friendlier. Ling Tianxiang had been paying attention to these changes when the ground suddenly shook violently, causing him to crouch down reflexively...
