Volume 1: The Fierce Tiger Breaks Free Chapter 2: Shocking the Higher-ups (Part 1)
The 414th border post in the western frontier, Colonel Gu Weimin lit his fifth cigarette within an hour and checked his watch for the tenth time. The smoke in the room was suffocating, and several soldiers guarding the post had retreated outside, really couldn't understand how this colonel could smoke so much, wasn't he afraid of being choked to death by his own smoke?
"Any news?" Gu Weimin stopped beside the signal corps soldier.
The communications soldier took off his headphones and shook his head.
"Continue calling." Gu Weimin's face turned iron-green, unsure if it was due to the smoke.
"Lao Gu, sit down first and have a sip of water." Colonel Qi Jianjun, sitting beside him, picked up his teacup.
"Don't drink, what's the time now!" Gu Weimin threw away the cigarette butt and stomped on it hard, rubbing back and forth a few times. "Contact other teams and ask them to report their situation as soon as possible."
"But now all the other teams are on their way back, if we send back a report now..."
"Let him go if he wants to, what's the fuss about?" Gu Weimin glared at Qi Jianjun and then told the communications soldier, "Contact the other teams and have them send back their reports immediately."
The communications soldier looked at Qi Jianjun with a somewhat bewildered expression, and the lieutenant colonel nodded silently.
Gu Weimin stopped again beside the communication soldier and lit his sixth cigarette. Next to the radio were the files of the eight special soldiers from the four teams participating in this operation, with Ling Tianxiang's file on top.
Two years ago, Gu Weimin first met Ling Tianxiang when he came to report to the "Snow Leopard" team. He was certain that this young man would become one of the most formidable members of the team. Over the past two years, Ling Tianxiang's performance has not disappointed Gu Weimin, from an ordinary special forces soldier to the best sniper in the entire regiment. The path that Gu Weimin took five years to complete, Ling Tianxiang accomplished in just two years. It wasn't until half a year ago that Gu Weimin learned about Ling Tianxiang's true identity and background, which made him look at Ling Tianxiang with new eyes. If it weren't for the mission requiring the deployment of the best sniper, plus Ling Tianxiang actively requesting to participate in the action, Gu Weimin would not have sent him out.
An hour has passed since the scheduled withdrawal contact time, and in the twenty-four missions that Ling Tianxiang had carried out, he had never been late, let alone lost contact with the rear. Something must have happened! Gu Weimin felt a little regretful in his heart, he shouldn't have sent Ling Tianxiang to carry out the most dangerous mission, but was it useful to regret now?
"General, contact has been made!"
Gu Weimin was startled and the cigarette butt in his hand fell to the ground.
"The other three teams have all safely retreated and are expected to arrive within about two hours. In addition, the team closest to us reported that before losing contact, the US military helicopter arrived five minutes earlier than scheduled, but did not receive the goods, and..."
"And what?" Gu Weimin lit another cigarette.
Moreover, the group also reported that when the accident occurred, they heard American troops shouting in Chinese.
"Speak in Chinese?" Qi Jianjun took a step forward, looking at Gu Weimin with some disbelief.
Gu Weimin was also shocked in his heart, undoubtedly, this action had failed.
"Old Gu."
Gu Weimin didn't rush to speak. He patted the communication soldier's shoulder and let him go out first, then he went to close the big door of the sentry post.
"Old Guo, this doesn't feel right, there must be something wrong."
"There's a traitor!" Gu Weimin's face turned completely dark, he was no longer anxious, but became as calm as an iron man.
"What should we do now?"
"There are two things that must be done." Gu Weimin paced back and forth in the room, "First, we must determine the situation of 01 and 02 as soon as possible."
Qī Jiàn Jūn nodded, "01" was Wèi Dà Míng's code name, "02" was Líng Tiān Xiáng's code name.
"No matter if they are dead or alive, or captured by the US military, it must be determined as soon as possible. If dead, show the body; if alive, show the person!"
"If...," Qijian Jun hesitated for a moment, "what if they fall into the hands of the US military?"
"Then......" Gu Weimin's raised hand froze in mid-air, "Don't make a decision for now, but let all the small groups be prepared to take action. Once there is news, I will make a decision as soon as possible."
"I'll arrange it as soon as possible." Qi Jianjun knew that Gu Weimin would not abandon any of his subordinates. Years ago, he was carried by Gu Weimin from the battlefield and walked more than 50 kilometers to return to the rear.
"Another thing is to find out who the traitor is as soon as possible." Gu Weimin's words were very heavy, "Besides the team members present here, how many people know about this operation?"
"There is also Gan Que Deputy, Guo Zhengwei, and Li Zhongdui who did not participate in the action due to injury."
Gu Weimin thought quickly, these three people should not have any problems. Gan Ning and Gu Weimin joined the "Snow Leopard" at the same time, they had cooperated for several years, if it wasn't because his wife was about to give birth, Gan Ning would also participate in this action. Guo Zhi Gang is the political commissar of the battalion, with a deep background, and it's even more impossible for him to be a traitor. Li Yu, who was injured in the last operation, is still recovering in the military hospital, he can't be a traitor either.
"How many others in the department know about this operation?"
"Except for our troops, there is only the intelligence department that provides information."
Gu Weimin was shocked, and he was sure that there must be a mole within the intelligence department. Otherwise, the news wouldn't have leaked out so quickly, especially since it involved such deeply buried information that wasn't easily accessible.
"Old Gu..."
Gu Weimin was startled, and then came to his senses. "Jianjun, you stay here. After the other teams return, don't let them have contact with the outside world for now. Also, take care of the rest of the squad. I'll be back as soon as possible."
Qī Jiàn Jūn immediately grabbed Gù Wèi Mín. "What are you doing? Are you going to fight your way back alone?"
"At least I can't wait for news here." Gu Weimin shook off Qi Jianjun's hand, "We must find out who the traitor is, whether it's for future actions or for Tianxiang and Daming, we should find out who the traitor is!"
"But is it useful? And besides, this doesn't even fall within our jurisdiction."
"That can't be done either, I'll go back and find General Zhou now." Gu Weimin clenched his slightly trembling hands, "No matter what, we must figure out what happened. As soon as you have any news here, notify me immediately, I will keep in touch with you at all times."
After finishing his speech, Gu Weimin rushed out of the sentry post. The outside sky was still dark, but it was not as gloomy as Gu Weimin's heart. Rolling up his sleeves to tame a fierce tiger Chapter 2 Shocking the High-Level Authorities (Part 1)
