Chapter Sixty-One: Fascism
Thank you to those friends who sent flowers.
The city guard, short for urban guardian, their main responsibility is to defend against external attacks. Therefore, when the city of Xini was first established, the city guard barracks were set up on the seaside side of Xini City, making it convenient for them to deploy in time when foreign enemies invaded.
This is a fairly large military camp, and in its heyday, it once housed as many as four thousand soldiers. However, in recent years, due to financial problems and the prolonged period of peace, the duke's mansion has massively reduced the army, leaving only over three hundred city guards remaining. The place has thus become much more relaxed.
After the Duke's Manor issued an order to recruit the Guards, various manors under the Duke's name sent out their most elite young people one after another.
To train these people, Nia and General Lebid decided to move them all into the city's garrison camp. Even after more than a hundred people moved in, the camp didn't seem crowded at all.
These hundreds of people are all from their own estates, all of whom are the sons and nephews of those estate owners. In their respective estates, they are all accustomed to being strong and fierce, otherwise they would not have been selected by those loyal estate owners who are loyal to the duke's family.
Although it was said at the time that the elderly at home told them to listen to the duke and the young lady's orders, there was no mention of listening to anyone else's arrangements. Moreover, according to the summons, they would be led by the legendary figure of the Red Blood Dragon Rider, and form the Red Blood Divine Dragon Knights. The elderly at home were even more willing to spare no expense in preparing the best warhorses for themselves.
From this, we can see our own importance and bright future. Who knows, maybe I'll become another great legend like Ye Feng, turned into a story by the traveling bards, sung everywhere. That's why each of us looks down on others, struts around with nose in the air, no one yielding to anyone else.
Additionally, Diana and others were busy with other things, so after they arrived at the campsite, no one was in charge. After eating their fill every day, these young people had nowhere to vent their energy, so they made a big fuss about the whole campsite, making it smoky and noisy, with chickens and dogs not being able to rest. Fights and brawls kept happening one after another.
The city guards who lived in the same camp, however, did not intervene because these people would become the duke's guard attendants and were not part of their own system. The leader of the city guards, Carlo, also found it inconvenient to get involved, so he turned a blind eye; as long as they didn't bother him, he was happy to watch them make fools of themselves.
There have been a few who didn't know better and tried this, but after the city guards beat them senseless in front of everyone, they became much more well-behaved and finally understood that some people are not to be trifled with.
Carlo even secretly instigated these bastards and then set up a gambling den on the side, making a fortune every day.
A few people riding horses arrived at the camp just in time for a fight among these rascals.
A crowd formed a large circle, watching two big men inside with their clothes off and bare-chested, revealing sturdy muscles and dense chest hair, engaging in a fierce one-on-one fight.
The onlookers were waving their fists and shouting loudly to cheer the two men on. Next to them, someone had set up a gambling den, with people occasionally running over to place bets.
Ye Feng sat on his horse, looking down at them with a hint of disdain, nodded and said: "The quality of these people is not bad, very suitable for engaging in the promising profession of being a hooligan."
Diana's face turned red instantly.
She suddenly took off her helmet, gritting her teeth as she glared at these bastards who didn't give her any face. She had even praised them to Leaf Wind on the way here.
The city guards mixed in the crowd saw Diana's appearance, and they all took a cold war, exchanged a look with each other, and then quietly slipped away without revealing their expressions. They had experienced Diana's ferocity and knew that her nickname "Humanoid Violent Dragon" was not something she came up with by herself while sitting on the toilet.
The city guards immediately dispersed, leaving only those ignorant reserve team members making a ruckus on the scene.
Diana shouted several times outside, but no one listened. She was furious and raised the whip in her hand, cracking it loudly in the air. Several guards shouted angrily at the same time, urging their war horses forward and charging over.
As members of the Duke's Guard, they also despise these reserve members who have lost face in front of Ye Feng, and take action without mercy, using their whips to lash out at those guys, beating them until they cry out in pain, all crouching on the ground with their heads covered, no longer daring to move.
Diana saw that they had come clean and vented their spleen, nodded and said, "Hmm, now it looks much more comfortable."
It was then that the thugs realized that Diana, who was riding high on her horse and wearing armor, was not to be underestimated. Although most of them did not know Diana, her fiery red hair was a symbol known to all people in Xinya. They immediately knew that she would be their future superior.
They only realized the gravity of the situation when they saw her angry gaze, and became as obedient as a primary school student who got caught smoking in the toilet by the head teacher.
Diana rode her horse to the front of the crowd, looking down at them with a whip in hand, and shouted loudly: "You bunch of scum, so spirited. Then there's no need to enter the Duke's guard team, go challenge the evil dragon on Snow Peak Mountain yourself. Do you know that gathering crowds to fight and gamble in the military is a capital offense?"
Everyone who heard this was shocked and became restless.
Diana continued: "However, since you are first-time offenders, I will not pursue the matter. But if there is a next time..." Her tone changed, and she gritted her teeth, saying fiercely: "You will be killed without pardon!"
Those guys were all stunned by her words, and the scene suddenly fell silent. If you didn't know better, you'd think this was an abandoned campsite with no one around.
A gentle breeze blew by, stirring up a faint cloud of dust. Someone coughed softly and quickly covered their mouth, afraid that Diana's sharp eyes would land on them.
Diana waited a little longer, seeing that they were all well-behaved and no one dared to say a word. With a flick of her whip, she said: "Now go to the playground and run ten laps for me, then come back here and assemble. Go quickly!"
Those people were overjoyed as if they had been granted a great amnesty, and they rushed out in a swarm, not for anything else, but just to get as far away from this terrifying woman as possible.
Diana gave a signal with her eyes, and the several guards also urged their war horses to follow up, supervising those reserve team members to see if they were acting according to Diana's words.
When the last figure had disappeared beyond the gate, Diana turned back and asked triumphantly: "How did I handle this thing?"
Ye Feng rubbed his nose and nodded in approval: "Not bad, very fascist."
