Chapter 21 Article 1

Article 8 of Chapter 21 Section 1 Ordinance

Zhao Zhuangjie raised his gun and aimed at the front, not moving at all. If you observe carefully, when he breathed, his hands, arms, and guns remained balanced.

"When shooting, be familiar with the trigger's pull and travel. As the aiming line approaches the aiming area, start pre-pressing the trigger and slow down breathing. When the aiming line points to the aiming area, hold your breath, keep your chest relatively fixed, and gradually increase the pressure on the trigger until the gun fires unknowingly. If the aiming line deviates from the aiming area or cannot continue holding breath, correct the aim or change breath before continuing the shooting action." Zhao Zhuangjie pressed the trigger and said: "Breathing is very important for the stability of shooting."

"The human body's breathing and blood circulation directly affect its geometric shape, affecting the fixed position of its center of gravity, causing it to be in constant motion. When engaging in static exercises, it is obviously difficult to keep the moving body balanced. However, the human body is controlled by consciousness, and through holding one's breath or rhythmic breathing, it is possible to make the body as still as possible, creating conditions for balance."

When firing, one should control breathing, that is, hold their breath. This is common sense when shooting. The purpose of holding one's breath is to keep the chest and pelvis relatively fixed, so as not to affect the movement of the shoulder and hip muscles, thereby improving stability during shooting. Chest movement is mainly achieved through respiratory muscles. When inhaling, the diaphragm contracts, causing the chest to expand. Due to the physiological characteristics of negative pressure in the thoracic cavity, the lungs also expand, causing the air pressure inside the lungs to decrease, which draws air into the lungs. Exhalation is the opposite. As long as one holds their breath, the diaphragm and intercostal muscles stop acting on the chest, and the chest becomes relatively stable.

"When shooting, how to hold your breath? Let's try an experiment. When you take a deep breath and don't exhale, you must feel suffocated in the chest, but when you slowly exhale outward, people have a feeling of relief, and the whole body relaxes. So, only when taking a deep breath and slowly exhaling outward can help stabilize your posture and coordinate your movements. You try to experience it for yourself." Zhao Zhuangjie handed the gun to Xiao Lie.

"It is only through repeated practice that one can become more sensitive."

After verification, it is found that most shooters will have a relatively stable period of about two to three seconds after the aiming line points to the aiming area for about two seconds. The so-called stable period is always relative and refers to the time when the smallest shaking is maintained. If a shooter maintains the shortest shaking time longer, we say his stable period is long or his stability is good. Some shooters may have two to three relatively stable periods in one shot. Getting the stability of the gun after shooting is the common wish of shooters, but getting the stability of the gun is not the purpose, and using this stability to complete the shooting at the right time is the purpose. The stable period is the external manifestation of the shooter's mood becoming calm, and the movement and strength being relatively coordinated and balanced. Only when the shooter completes the last action of shooting - firing - in a timely manner during this period can he achieve good shooting results.

When Xiao Lie was practicing his aim in the sunlight, he found that Yang Xian was also doing the same exercise not far from him. He glanced at him and then ignored him, continuing to practice.

But Yang Xian didn't think so. Last time in the cafeteria, Xiao Lie made him lose face once, but afterwards he didn't even go to find him to settle the score. He couldn't bear it himself, his skills were not as good as others, yet he wanted to take revenge, wasn't that a bit petty? Yang Xian saw a stone on the ground, his eyebrows furrowed, then he picked it up.

  Wow!

Xiao Lie felt like his leg had been hit by something, and he involuntarily bent over. He immediately turned his head to see Yang Xian smiling at him with a mischievous grin.

"Comrade Xiao Lie, haven't you heard of 'still as a mountain'? To practice good marksmanship, one must learn to focus single-mindedly, like an unmoving mountain. If your enemy is in front of you, or if it's raining outside, are you going to be afraid that the rain will affect the stability of your shot and not fire? A small stone can distract you, how do you expect to practice stability?"

Yang Xian said with a stern expression, as if he had just slapped Xiao Lie but was actually thinking of him.

"Haha, then I must thank you for thinking of me." Xiao Lie said with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. From a young age, Xiao Lie's living environment had destined him to have more sensitivity and maturity than his peers. The tricks of his peers were like children playing house in his eyes. Moreover, he adhered to the creed: "If you don't offend me, I won't offend you; if you offend me, I will definitely fight back."

"That's thanks for you." Xiao Lie said calmly: "I heard that now when you see Huang Cai Cai, you can't eat and will vomit. In that case, since you helped me today, I won't be polite. Let's go to the bathroom to discuss this further."

When Yang Xian heard Xiao Lie say that, his face changed. From the long-standing open and secret struggle with Xiao Lie, he also knew that Xiao Lie was not a good person. He wanted Xiao Lie to let him off, but that was impossible. Seeing Xiao Lie's sunny smile, Yang Xian had an urge to run away, but his self-esteem did not allow him to do so.

"These past few days I've been busy, this time consider yourself lucky, but I remember." Xiao Lie said.

"Really? You're not very good at this, are you? Alright, I'll make a bet." Yang Xian said.

  "What's the bet?"

"If next time whoever loses a shot has to wash the other's clothes, underwear and socks for a week."

"Alright, a gentleman's word is his bond." Xiao Lie said with a smile.

"A swift horse with one whip."

After several more days, the new recruits finally had the opportunity to fire live ammunition. Each person was only given ten bullets, although it was a small amount, but for the new recruits, it was already enough. When they held the bullets in their hands, they felt that the bullet body was somewhat cold and heavy, and when they fired, the soldiers' hearts were more or less tense. In a country like China where gun control is very strict, the vast majority of people have no opportunity to touch a gun unless they join the army or enter certain designated organizations. The kind of shotgun used for hunting doesn't count as a real gun, and in the military, it's not like in movies or TV dramas where someone has a special talent and then suddenly becomes a great shooter in boot camp. Of course, there are still some people who have this experience, but compared to an army of 2 million, they are few and far between.

Xiao Lie followed the squad leader's command, loading the bullets into the magazine and then chambering a round, setting the firing mode to single shot. Although it was just for letting new recruits get a feel for things, those who had been soldiers before knew that aside from hard work, having a natural sense of shooting was also very important; some innate talents were undeniable.

"Don't be nervous, it's nothing, just get a feel for it. As long as the bullets hit the target, that's all that matters." Zhao Zhuangjie comforted the new recruit: "It's not far, only 100 meters."

The new recruit saw a target 100 meters away from himself, which was not far and could be seen by anyone who wasn't extremely nearsighted.

When the order was given, Class A went up first. As the new recruits completed their shooting preparations according to the shooting action and oral command, the sound of gunfire rang out. For those who heard the gunshot for the first time at close range, some were excited while others were tense. However, when they confirmed that what they held in their hands was a lethal weapon, the recruits had another strange feeling in their hearts.

When it was Yang Xian's turn, Xiao Lie couldn't help but take a few more glances. Compared to the other new recruits, his movements were much more practiced, and he had an air of nonchalance about him.

After the shooting ended, when reporting the target, when it was reported to Yang Xian, when eighty-nine rings sounded, a not small exclamation of surprise rose from the field. Such results would be considered excellent even among old soldiers, let alone a new recruit. Squad leader San even gave Yang Xian a big thumbs up. Standing not far away, Wu Minghui finally revealed a rare smile.

It was soon Xiao Lie's turn, lying on the ground, after completing the shooting drills, Xiao Lie felt that things were different now, because there were live rounds in the gun, although no one had ordered them to start firing yet, but the new recruits who had finished preparing began to fire one shot at a time.

  Bang!

After the gunshot, Wu Minghui saw through the telescope that Xiao Lie's target was actually white.

  Missed the target.

Soon, Wu Minghui confirmed that Xiao Lie's first shot was off-target. Zhang Mo's face on the side also became worried. Zhao Zhuangjie had the same mood as him, because he thought this shouldn't be Xiao Lie's score.

Yang Xian stared at Xiao Lie's target from the sidelines, and when he saw Xiao Lie miss his shot, a smile involuntarily curled up on his lips.

When he saw that the bullet didn't hit the target, Xiao Lie also subconsciously stunned for a moment. Then he quickly released his finger from the trigger and began to carefully inspect the gun, inch by inch. He finally found where the problem was - the gun's sight was off by a little bit. Then he immediately stood up and said: "Report to the squad leader, new recruit Xiao Lie requests to reassemble the gun again."

When Zhao Zhuangjie heard Xiao Lie's report, he said: "Approved."

When Xiao Lie started disassembling his rifle, the new recruits of Class 5 had already finished shooting. The entire range was empty except for Xiao Lie, who was calmly disassembling his rifle.

"What's going on?" Zhang Mo asked.

"Probably the gun has some problems, reassembling it once should be fine." Zhao Zhuangjie said.

Having reassembled his rifle, Xiao Lie, who was lying on the ground, knew that if he wanted to win Yang Xian, he couldn't afford to miss again. He not only couldn't miss the target again but also had to hit the central bullseye.

"Breathe, breathe, feel the gun as myself, I am the gun. I'm like a stone, bullets become my hands, wherever I want to reach, I can reach. Breathe, breathe, one screen, one breath." Xiao Lie muttered to himself, aiming at the bullseye.

The wind has risen, and at this moment the wind has risen. When the cold air blows towards everyone's face, the soldiers can't help but feel a chill, and the target paper not far away moves slightly. And at this time, Xiao Lie fired his gun.

  Bang!

  Wow!
