Chapter 4 The Great Walls War of Resistance

Chapter 4: The Great Wall's War of Resistance

PS: Long Jian II is seeking votes, everyone please vote for it!!

After entering the regular army, Liu Zhenfeng, as the regimental commander, also began to subject his soldiers to rigorous training. He had his own way of training his troops, and most of the training methods were adopted from the special forces training methods used in later generations. Liu Zhenfeng told his soldiers that they should sweat more during peacetime so that they would bleed less during wartime, and that everyone should grit their teeth and persevere for him.

Liu Zhenfeng had been eagerly awaiting a combat mission, and finally, those restless Japanese devils gave me the opportunity.

In September 1936, Liu Zhenfeng's unit received news that the Japanese army was attacking the Great Wall at Gubeikou, and they rushed day and night to the Great Wall to resist the war.

"Battalion Commander, I heard that the Japanese are very ruthless and kill people without batting an eye!" said Little Zhang, a guard standing next to Liu Zhenfeng.

"Hey, little devil, do you know why the Xiongnu people, who were born to be good at fighting, were afraid of the Qin and Han armies in ancient times?" Liu Zhenfeng asked (he was indeed a little devil himself, yet he called someone else little devil).

  "Not clear."

Looking at Little Zhang's bewildered expression, Liu Zhenfeng gathered all the soldiers of the whole battalion and said to them: "Brothers, I know that some people here have been soldiers for over a decade, and some may not be convinced by me as their new battalion commander. I understand this, after all, I just graduated from school and took on the role of battalion commander. However, now that our country is in danger, we need everyone to fight bravely against the enemy. Why did I say that the Xiongnu are afraid of Qin and Han? The Xiongnu people, since they were defeated by the Han army and lost their royal court, have been fleeing westward, destroying countless countries along the way. Do you think the Xiongnu people were powerful back then?"

"Good!" All the soldiers responded loudly.

"That's right! Such a powerful nation was defeated by our Han people, why should we still be afraid of those little Easterners today?" Liu Zhenfeng said excitedly.

"Remember, we are a pack of wolves, a pack of bloodthirsty wolves. We are carnivores, not vegetarians! Since the day we enlisted, we have already dedicated our lives to the country. Dying on the battlefield and being wrapped in horsehide is the ultimate wish of every soldier. Our Seventh Regiment only has brave warriors who die in battle, no cowards who surrender or become traitors, right?"

"Right!" The shout shook the sky.

"Brothers, to quote a phrase from the Han Dynasty: 'Whoever offends the heavenly authority of China will be punished no matter how far away they are!'" Liu Zhenfeng bellowed.

"He who offends against the majesty of China, though far away, shall be punished!"

Hehe, it seems that saying some inflammatory words in this era is indeed useful!

With this troop, they arrived at Gubeikou. The Great Wall under the sunset looks clear in outline. The Great Wall is a symbol of the Chinese nation and a pride of the Chinese people. Although the Great Wall did not play a significant role in history, many Chinese sons and daughters shed blood for their country. Now that the national crisis is at hand, tens of millions of Chinese sons and daughters will again fight against the Japanese army inside and outside the Great Wall to defend their homeland.

On the night of September 4, 1936, a group of Japanese troops entered our ambush area. I took a look at this group of Japanese troops, and there were over a thousand people, equivalent to a battalion's strength. My god, it was indeed a lot, but fortunately, not only my regiment was ambushing here, but also other friendly neighboring troops. Our regiment wasn't fighting alone.

"Everyone get ready, enter combat state, pay attention to protecting yourself, don't get hurt at all costs." Liu Zhenfeng warned his subordinates, then he added another sentence, "What if we can't beat them?"

A regimental commander near Liu Zhenfeng said: "We can't beat them but we have to fight, killing one is breaking even, killing two is making a profit."

"Haha, not bad. But what I'm telling you is, we can't win, let's retreat."

  "Ah~~~~~" Everyone fell down.

"Isn't it unexpected, but what I want to tell you is that only by living can we kill more enemies. We must annihilate the enemy's living forces in the movement. Do you understand? Don't make unnecessary sacrifices. Unless a superior orders us to die, we must hold on to our lives."

The sky ahead is overcast, the Japanese devils' troops are slowly approaching. Ah, damn it! This batch of Japanese army equipment is so powerful! Estimated to be a battalion-sized force, with 15 field artillery pieces, 30 mountain guns, several armored vehicles and tanks, more than 40 heavy machine guns, and countless other firearms.

The enemy is getting closer and closer, everyone holds their breath, and the guns in their hands are tightly grasped...

"Alright, fire!" Liu Zhenfeng gave the order, and everyone launched a barrage of hand grenades at the Japanese devils, followed by a hail of gunfire. The Japanese were caught off guard, stumbling around in confusion, unsure where the shots were coming from. However, the Japanese army was well-trained, and they quickly regrouped to launch a defense. Cannons boomed towards them, and bullets rained down, but Liu Zhenfeng's troops fought back with all their might. The two sides clashed fiercely, each suffering casualties. Meanwhile, neighboring units also launched an attack on the Japanese battalion.

"Brothers, fix bayonets!" Liu Zhenfeng took a look and thought it was almost time, so he ordered everyone to fix their bayonets and engage in close combat with the Japanese. At this moment, the officers and men of the Seventh Regiment, who were enraged, rushed out of the trenches and charged at the Japanese army. Liu Zhenfeng also grasped his large knife and rushed towards the bloody battlefield.

"Taste the blade of Lao Tzu's big knife!" Liu Zhenfeng shouted, swinging his large knife to chop at a Japanese soldier.

The Japanese soldier saw him coming like a fierce god, and couldn't help but feel some fear, but out of the spirit of Bushido, no matter how afraid he was, he still raised his gun and fought to the death.

"Damn it, come on! Wow wow wow~~~"

Liu Zhenfeng killed a Japanese soldier with one knife cut, spat out saliva, and continued to fight...

In this battle, Liu Zhenfeng's battalion and the neighboring troops annihilated the Japanese army's large unit, capturing a large number of weapons. However, they also suffered heavy losses, with over 300 people killed or wounded in the entire battalion, more than half of whom were casualties. Nevertheless, they fought out their fearless wolf spirit that didn't fear sacrifice. The Bloodthirsty Division began to make a name for itself from then on.

"Captain, this battle was truly exhilarating! This time our regiment has emerged victorious!" a little devil said.

Liu Zhenfeng was overjoyed when he saw the truckloads of weapons, and couldn't close his mouth. As for the field artillery, recoilless guns, heavy machine guns and other weapons, Liu Zhenfeng's regiment and the participating neighboring troops began to divide them up. As for the armored vehicles and tanks, since no one in their regiment knew how to drive them, they were all donated to the war zone command, which would distribute them uniformly.

Due to Liu Zhenfeng's outstanding military achievements, the headquarters broke the rules and promoted him to regimental commander. Of course, this battalion also entered the regiment. In the following days, they repeatedly defeated the Japanese army on the North China battlefield, making the Japanese army afraid to come forward when they heard of the 29th Army.

On June 10, 1937, Liu Zhenfeng was appointed as the commander of the 37th Division of the 29th Army, Jiang Cheng was appointed as the commander of a certain regiment of the 29th Army, and Zheng Xiaoting, Li Shouxin, Lin Gang and others were all promoted to battalion commanders.

On June 19, 1937, the 37th Division was garrisoned in Wanping County, where, half a month later, the shocking Lugou Bridge Incident would occur, and the comprehensive Anti-Japanese War of the Chinese nation would also begin.

"Reporting to the superior, a batch of Russian-made automatic rifles has arrived, with over 1,000 pieces. This time we have sufficient firepower!" Liu Zhenfeng's chief of staff said excitedly.

"Good!" Liu Zhenfeng said excitedly: "Issue to the regiment, order each regiment to enter combat readiness at any time." Liu Zhenfeng took a look at the rifle and tried shooting a few rounds, feeling pretty good. The style of the gun also made him think of Russia's most famous fully automatic rifle after the war - AK47. Although this rifle was far from comparable to the later AK47, calling it an "AK" for now would be quite impressive in terms of morale.

"Not bad, not bad, what's the name of this gun?" Liu Zhenfeng asked his chief of staff with a smile.

"It seems like some sort of improved version of the Mosin-Nagant rifle, I heard it's one of the Soviet Union's latest products, and even they don't have a large number of them in service yet." The Chief of Staff said with a smile.

"Anyway, I don't care what he's called, I'll just give him the name AK47!" Liu Zhenfeng said with a flourish.

"AK-47?" The Chief of Staff looked at Liu Zhenfeng in confusion.

"What are you looking at me like that for? Alright, it's called AK-47. The team equipped with them is called the AK Team!" Liu Zhenfeng said firmly.

The Chief of Staff responded accordingly.

Liu Zhenfeng looked at the edge of the map for a long time, now they and the Japanese army's defense line are mixed together, the Japanese army has always liked to launch surprise attacks, so he must be highly vigilant at all times.

July 1st, Liu Zhenfeng arrived in the city of Beiping and took a look at this ancient city. He felt a wave of emotion, as in just a few days, it would be shrouded in flames of war. Passing by the entrance of Peking University, he saw the highest institution that made Chinese students proud beyond measure, and he couldn't help but walk inside. Since he was wearing casual clothes, he didn't draw much attention from everyone.

Liu Zhenfeng was appreciating the scenery to himself, looking at this century-old famous school (was it wrong? In 1937, Peking University had only been established for 40 years!), thinking that after July 7th, the students and teachers of this school would all have to retreat to the rear, feeling sad in his heart. Of course, he wouldn't be foolish enough to believe that with just one division under his command, he could defend Beiping City.

As he walked along, a man suddenly bumped into Liu Zhenfeng's body, and the security guard behind him was so frightened that he almost drew his gun.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" a girl apologized repeatedly.

"Mei Ting, how is it you?" Liu Zhenfeng asked in surprise.

"Ah, Zhenfeng, I didn't expect it was you!" Xu Meiting said with great excitement when she saw Liu Zhenfeng.

"What are you, a young girl, doing here? Don't you know that the Chinese and Japanese armies are now at odds with each other?" Liu Zhenfeng didn't know why she was in Beiping now. Many wealthy merchants who lived in Beiping had fled to inland areas, as the area around Beiping was no longer safe. This little girl actually came to Beiping, truly unaware of the danger!

"Hehe, I'm going to the Central News Agency's Beijing office to take care of some things. And then I'll swing by Peking University to interview an old professor, hehe~~~" The little girl said with a mischievous grin.

"Mei Ting, leave Beiping as soon as possible, war is about to break out here, the Japanese will launch an attack at any time." Liu Zhenfeng solemnly reminded Xu Meiting.

"What! We're going into battle right away. Then I definitely can't leave, I want to be a war correspondent and report the frontline situation to people all over the country."

"You're crazy, once the war starts, who will have time to ensure your little girl's safety?" Liu Zhenfeng said urgently, "The Japanese are brutal and merciless, and the battlefield is very dangerous, with a risk of death at any moment. You should go back to the rear instead."

"I'm not afraid, I can endure hardship, and I will protect myself."

"Alright, alright, little girl, you're a woman with no strength to bind a chicken, how can you go to the battlefield? The battlefield is full of blood and gore, you definitely won't be able to take it. In fact, dying on the battlefield would be better, if unfortunately you fall into the hands of the Japanese army, a beautiful young lady like you will surely be taken advantage of by those lustful Japanese soldiers, it'll be a fate worse than death! Liu Zhenfeng was naturally worried, if this little girl really stayed on the battlefield as a war correspondent, how could he possibly feel at ease?"

"I'm telling you, Liu Zhenfeng, stop calling me 'little girl' all the time. I'm actually older than you, so it's more suitable to call me sister. Don't worry, I'll be fine. By the way, I heard you joined the army, which unit are you serving in now? Have you become a battalion or company commander?" Xu Meiting said.

"Our instructor is General Song Zheyuan's 29th Army." My guard interrupted with a reckless remark.

"Wow, you've actually become a superior! What rank is it?"

  "Major General!" This idiotic guard.

"My goodness! You're actually a Major General, how impressive!" Xu Meiting exclaimed with excitement, "Then I'll follow your troops! You'll protect me when the time comes, right?"

"You! Why won't you give up?!" Liu Zhenfeng said helplessly, at the same time glaring angrily at my guard: "Who told you to be so mouthy?! You're suffocating me! If you didn't speak, nobody would take you for a mute."

The result can be imagined, Xu Meiting came to Liu Zhenfeng's department with a thick skin, and insisted on staying in his department as a war correspondent. Liu Zhenfeng could only make three rules with her:

  1. If you want to go to the battlefield for an interview, you can't act alone and must have a guard to protect you; if it's a fiercely battled field, then don't go.

  2. No interviews or observation of military operations and secrets are allowed within the military department.

  3. Stay for no more than a month and must return to the rear after one month, cannot follow the army to act.

"I object!" Xu Meiting pouted and protested, "The first clause of the first point is no problem, but if you say that the battlefield is fiercely fought, then I want to go even more. That kind of interview is called wonderful! The second clause is no problem, the third clause I do not agree with, I request to be a war correspondent."

"Xiao Li." Liu Zhenfeng called his personal bodyguard over.

"Yes! What instructions does the Master have?"

"Immediately buy a train ticket for this reporter to go to Nanjing and safely escort her back to Nanjing." Liu Zhenfeng ordered.

"You win, fine, I agree with you. The interview task will end by the end of July, okay?" Xu Meiting had to back down.

"I'm telling you, Miss, why don't you just stay at home and not get involved? You've come to this treacherous place, can't you let people fight in peace?" Liu Zhenfeng tried to persuade her to leave.

"No matter what you say, I won't leave, how about that?" The little girl really got stubborn.

"Haha, I've got nearly ten thousand masters here, all of them are men, aren't you afraid that we'll... one by one..." I deliberately made a seductive expression.

"Alright, consider me pitiful. If you really want to have this need, I'll satisfy you then." She expected that Liu Zhenfeng wouldn't be able to do anything to her, so she put on a nonchalant air and lazily said to him.

"I, I guess I lost to you!" Liu Zhenfeng left her residence with a bitter face.

Note: The Russian-made AK-47 rifle was only equipped with the Soviet army after World War II. The automatic rifle mentioned in the text is not an AK-47, but rather the protagonist's own name for this rifle, which happens to be the same as the later AK-47. Of course, in terms of performance, this automatic rifle cannot be compared to the AK-47. Moreover, the automatic rifle was born N years earlier, and it seems that there were no automatic rifles around 1937!
