One Mans Fight

  One Man's Fight

Hiding in the sorghum stacks beside the village, Yang Sicheng carefully observed the enemy's formation through his sniper scope. 500 meters ahead was the enemy's hastily dug machine gun position, where a large number of Japanese infantrymen were gathered, ready to launch a charge at any moment.

Behind the machine gun position were grenade launchers, about 800 meters away, four mortars were neatly arranged, tear gas was launched from these mortars. Outside of 1000 meters were two mountain guns of the enemy, high-explosive shells and mustard gas shells were fired from them. The enemy's heavy firepower was well hidden, probably they also knew that there was a godly shooter on the opposite side. Yang Sicheng could not directly kill them.

The most important thing now is to take out their artillery observers. Without the observers, the enemy's artillery would be blind. If there's a chance to take out their gunners too, that would be even better. A direct assault from the front is impossible, so we can only sneak around to attack them from the side or rear.

Before entering the village, out of a sniper's instinct he had already scouted the terrain. The enemy is currently in a depression, with a small grove to the left. It is estimated that the enemy command post should be in the grove, because there are several horses tied up outside the grove, and the enemy cavalry has almost been wiped out. These remaining horses must be the mounts of the officers.

The enemy's right side is adjacent to a vast expanse of wild grassland and fields outside the village. If only we could enter the wild grassland through this open field, but how can we avoid being discovered by the devils?

Yang Sicheng looked at the sorghum stack and had an idea, quickly finding a fire to ignite the sorghum stalks. In order to increase the smoke, he also deliberately poured some water on the stack. The flames greedily devoured the hay, and soon a thick smoke billowed out, enveloping the village in a smoky haze blown by the wind.

Taking advantage of the smoke cover, he quickly crouched down and darted out like a nimble weasel. The range of the smoke was not very wide, and at present, there were still at least 50 meters away from the wasteland. If he rushed out directly, he would definitely be discovered by the devils. He hastily pulled out a hand grenade, lit it with force, and threw it to the right.

With a loud "boom", the grenade exploded, and the enemy's line of sight was blocked by the smoke, unaware of what had happened, thinking that the village troops were using the smoke as cover to charge out, and hastily fired in the direction of the explosion.

Taking advantage of the enemy's firepower being drawn to the right, Yang Sicheng made a lightning-fast dash forward, bursting out of the smoky area with a fish-like leap. Utilizing his low posture, he crawled into the fields on all fours and quickly scrambled along the ridges towards the wild grassland.

He quickly and safely entered the tall grass, took a few deep breaths, and finally made it into the position. "Haha, you little devils, I'm here! Watch how Grandpa takes care of you!"

The devils' guns and cannons fired blindly, but did not see the expected large enemy force appear, and gradually stopped. Yang Sicheng had already quietly looked for the devil's artillery observer, the observer would generally stay in a higher place, so that the view is open and clear, but here is the Hebei plain, where is the high place?

He thought carefully, the tree! Only this small forest around the village is higher, the enemy's observer must be hiding in the tree, no wonder they can change the type of ammunition so timely according to our army's movement.

Yang Sicheng's left eye began to search above the treetops and found it! On a tree stump 400 meters away, a ghostly yellow military uniform was exposed. His right eye immediately captured the target: the guy was holding binoculars and observing sneakily, but because the tree trunk blocked most of his head, there was no shooting angle.

Although the situation was very critical at this moment, Yang Sicheng did not rush. He was waiting for the ghost to expose his head. Sure enough, after a while, that guy turned his head and exposed half of his brain, shouting loudly under the tree, presumably reporting coordinates. With a "bang", that guy didn't even hum, and fell down from the tree.

Yang Sicheng crouched down and quickly ran into the depths of the grass thicket, his current mission was to take out the enemy's gunner. When the enemy heard the sound of gunfire on the right side of the position, but didn't know where he was, they could only blindly fire in that direction, while he had already left the place where he fired and was running quickly towards the enemy's mountain artillery position.

Gently lifting the withered grass in front of him, the enemy's mountain artillery position was just 30 meters ahead of Yang Si Cheng. Each Type-41 mountain gun was operated by three people: a gunner, a loader, and an ammunition handler. Two guns were lined up side by side, with a large pile of shell casings scattered around them, emitting wisps of smoke. Dozens of boxes of shells were stacked on the ground 15 meters away from the grass thicket. Since the mountain artillery position was at the very back of the enemy's formation, they felt very secure and didn't think anyone could penetrate their lines to threaten the gunners, so not even a single sentry was posted; only occasionally would a messenger come over to report the latest firing coordinates.

"These inhuman guys", Yang Sicheng was so angry that he wanted to throw a hand grenade into their ammunition pile, let them also taste the poison gas bomb! Unfortunately, the last hand grenade had been used just now.

Sneakily take them down, shooting is too easy to expose the target. He took out his crossbow and loaded it, three arrows can take down three devils, the remaining three can only be solved with a hunting knife, try not to shoot unless absolutely necessary. He thought to himself.

Just then, two ammunition handlers walked over, apparently preparing to move the box of shells over for use. Sure enough, after the two men walked over and lifted the box of shells with great effort, they turned around and struggled to carry it towards the gun emplacement.

What a great opportunity! Yang Sicheng drew out his hunting knife and crept out of the bushes, quietly following behind two Japanese soldiers. Suddenly, he rushed to the left soldier's back, covering his mouth with his left hand that held the crossbow, while his right hand's hunting knife fiercely cut into the soldier's neck. A long wound was cut from the trachea to the carotid artery, and blood gushed out instantly. Without any hesitation, he turned his hand again and stabbed the hunting knife into the throat of the right Japanese soldier. The right Japanese soldier only felt a flash in front of his eyes, and then he couldn't breathe due to severe pain in his throat.

Abandoning the devils who were already doomed, Yang Si Cheng's left hand swung smoothly, and with a "whoosh" sound, an arrow had deeply pierced the back of the devilish artilleryman in front. The dying man let out a "gurgling" sound from his throat, and it was only then that the remaining three devils on the artillery position realized that there was suddenly an additional person covered in straw on the battlefield.

With a "whoosh", an arrow shot into the mouth of a ghost who was just about to open his mouth and let out a loud cry. The sharp arrowhead easily pierced through his skull, revealing a gleaming arrow tip, while the other two ghosts cried out in desperation.

The enemy will arrive soon, Yang Si immediately aimed at a devil and shot out the last crossbow arrow. The guy stared blankly as the crossbow arrow flew quickly towards him and got close, there was no time to react before it pierced in. The devil fell to the ground instantly. The remaining last devil turned over and wanted to escape, Yang Si quickly dropped his knife and arrows, took down his rifle from his back, "bang" with one shot, that devil's head was like a smashed watermelon hit by a fist, also went to see his "Tianzhao Dashi".

Time was running out, and he had to evacuate quickly. He swiftly slung his rifle over his shoulder, picked up the hunting knife and crossbow arrows from the ground, grabbed two hand grenades from the Japanese corpse, and then darted into the thicket.

Yang Sicheng didn't go far, and soon lay down in a haystack 40 meters away from the ammunition pile. Before long, he saw a Japanese lieutenant leading about 50 Japanese soldiers rushing over. "Hachi ga!" Looking at the blood-soaked ground and several corpses scattered all over, the Japanese lieutenant kicked the ammunition box fiercely. With a "pa-da" sound, a hand grenade with its safety pin pulled out was quietly thrown into the ammunition pile.

"Boom!" After a loud noise, the shells exploded, and the high-explosive shells instantly brought up a burst of blood rain, killing and injuring a large number of unguarded Japanese soldiers. The poisonous gas shells rolled up a yellow smoke cloud, swallowing up the survivors who were lucky enough not to be hit by shrapnel. When the dust settled and the poisonous fog dispersed, the Japanese soldiers who had just been alive and kicking were all gone.

After the grenade left his hand, Yang Sicheng had quietly moved to a distance of 300 meters away from the devils' mortar position in the weeds.

The artillery observer was killed, the mountain gun position was bombed, and the dispatched guard team also suffered a devastating blow. A series of heavy blows made the new commander of the devils, Lieutenant Colonel Matsuo Hirotsugu, extremely angry. It was clear that there were enemies lurking in that damned wilderness. They couldn't set fire to it, or they might end up burning themselves, and the fire would spread to their own position. Sending troops to search for them was out of the question, as their current strength was already stretched thin. With only a few dozen soldiers, finding a few people in such a vast area was like looking for a needle in a haystack. Matsuo felt deeply powerless: the enemy was too cunning, firing one shot and changing positions, treating his hundreds of men as if they were nothing, leaving him with no way to use his strength. It was unbearable!

"Order, mortar to turn the muzzle, direction, left flank of the position, target, thicket, use gas shells for free shooting! Force the enemy to show up; infantry prepare to shoot at enemies appearing in the thicket! Machine gun continues to be on guard, preventing the enemy from launching a frontal charge." Matsumoto gave up the idea of sending troops to search and decided to "beat the grass to scare the snake".

The devils' mortar began firing tear gas shells randomly into the bushes. The shells landed far away from Yang Sicheng, and just as the devilish artillerymen were about to load more shells, a loud "bang" was heard, and the loader's body slumped over, losing consciousness.

The devils responsible for monitoring didn't even figure out where the bullets were coming from and had already taken out a mortar with a shell, instantly becoming frantic, various weapons randomly firing at the haystack, this kind of aimless shooting was frightening, but wanting to harm Yang Si Cheng was far off.

Under the cover of the enemy's dense gunfire, he easily took out another devil's gunner. It was time to relocate, he quickly picked up the empty shells on the ground and secretly changed places.

As the number of shots increases, so does the possibility of exposing one's position. Therefore, unless it is a special situation, snipers should try not to fire more than two shots in the same place and clean up any traces left behind when leaving, such as shell casings. Yang Sicheng strictly adhered to the sniper's battlefield survival rule.

In the process of transferring positions, he quickly loaded bullets into the magazine. From entering the bushes in the morning to now, it has been almost 3 hours, and he only fired 4 shots. Although there is still one bullet left in the magazine, as a sniper, he cannot tolerate the situation where he forgets to load enough bullets when shooting at the target.

Snipers are not gods, it is impossible to annihilate an army with the power of one person. Even if hundreds or thousands of people stand there without fighting back and let you shoot them with a rifle, they will still exhaust your strength. The greatest role of snipers lies in undermining the enemy's morale. A mysterious and invisible enemy, someone who can take your life at any time, is far more terrifying than an army that can be seen.

When he saw his enemies in front of him fall into a state of panic, Yang Sicheng quietly hid himself.
