Chapter Fifty-two: Kurinan
I raised my head to take a sneak peek around, saw that no one was paying attention here, and then put the knife and fork I had just picked up back onto the plate, swallowing my saliva.
I'm actually very hungry! I use my hands to grab a slice of fruit pizza from the plate, open my mouth wide and take a big bite. The food is swallowed into my empty stomach, and when it feels like I can't swallow anymore, I drink some milk to help it go down. This feeling of satisfaction is really great! I let out a breath and speed up the pace of devouring the food in front of me.
It's undeniable that Uncle Tak's craftsmanship is really good! Although the whole meal was wolfed down, the taste of the food could still be savored. The plates were empty, leaving only a lingering aftertaste. Feeling comfortable and content, I let out a satisfied burp, pulled out two napkins from the table and handed them to Kim Ji-hoon, who had a pleased expression on his face, and then used another two to wipe my mouth and greasy hands. Now I finally understand what it means to be a civilized person - being civilized is not pleasant, and you can't even eat your fill!
Kim Ji-joon contentedly rubbed his belly and exclaimed: "It's comfortable, really comfortable!"
"Is it that good?" I asked with a chuckle. This kid doesn't look as sturdy as me, but when faced with food, he eats like a wolf that's been starving for hundreds of years, and his speed is not ordinary either.
"Ah, not bad, not bad, it's really delicious! I thought when I came here, I'd have to eat those disgusting things like during training every day, or gnaw on military dry rations all the time!"
I nodded in agreement, and when I thought back to those days of training, especially the survival training segment, I felt nauseous! The only way to describe those unbearable days is "bitter beyond words"! First, we had a few days of theoretical classes, then we were taken to three different locations for wilderness survival training: desert, African savannah, and tropical rainforest. We weren't given any food, just a knife and signal flares for help. The instructors even sent people to chase us around! When we got desperate, we'd catch and eat whatever we could: high-protein insects, high-fat animals... anything edible! After several weeks of this, we all started questioning whether we were human or not!
After eating, we bid farewell to Uncle Tak and the two of us ran back to the third platoon. In the room, except for the captain, everyone was sitting at the big table, Birdman had just eaten half of his breakfast, holding a half-eaten sandwich in his hand, but his mouth kept talking non-stop. Unfortunately, no one around him paid attention to him, they were all busy with their own things, browsing the internet, reading magazines, and maintaining guns. Birdman's mouth didn't stop at all, he was chatting nonsense without any care, it took half a day for him to take another bite of his sandwich in his hand, before swallowing it down, he opened his mouth again! My cold sweat flowed down involuntarily, this guy is too talkative! I looked at Kim Jihun with admiration on my face and walked over.
"Hey, 16 and 17! Come on, sit down quickly! We were just discussing the Bermuda Triangle!" The birdman waved his hand to greet us as we walked over.
Discussion? Is this what you call discussion?
We chuckled and walked over to casually pull up a chair and sit down, and Birdy's "discussion" began again. However, no one joined his "discussion", and he didn't seem to want anyone else to join in either, not stopping for even a moment until he picked up the last sandwich. The topic had also shifted from the Bermuda Triangle to Italian noodles when the captain opened the door and walked in, grinning at everyone as he waved: "Brothers, we've got a mission!"
As soon as the words fell, various whistles and applause erupted around me, and my heart also thumped along with it. The task has arrived! Looking at Kim Ji-hoon, his face was full of excitement and tension.
The madman stood up and slammed the magazine in his hand excitedly on the table: "YES! The task is finally here! I'm almost suffocated, captain, what's the task?"
The captain walked over and pushed the farmer playing computer to one side, with a sly smile on his face, saying: "Robbery!"
Robbery? Everyone's face was filled with confusion, looking at each other in bewilderment, not understanding the captain's meaning. Only Crazy's face showed an even more excited expression, his eyes already starting to shine with a hint of madness.
I have unfolded my rich imagination, and vivid scenes appear in my mind: a group of masked men holding guns surround a bus with children and women inside. One of the strong men, like an ox, is fully armed and holds a Gatling six-barreled machine gun, heavily knocking on the window and shouting: "Robbery! Hand over all your IQ and IP cards!"
No way, no way! I shook my head vigorously, and another scene appeared in my mind: a group of masked men with guns rushed into a bank, the people inside were busy putting all the money into large travel bags they carried, anyone who tried to resist was shot to the ground. Just after the robbery, the police who arrived at the scene had already surrounded the bank, and another muscular man holding a Gatling six-barrel machine gun walked steadily to the entrance of the bank, pulled the trigger, and the barrel rotated at high speed, bullets poured out like a storm towards the police cars outside. As more and more shell casings fell to the ground, everything outside was shot into Swiss cheese. The bullets that had turned the police car into Swiss cheese then overturned it to the ground, let alone the police hiding behind. After shooting for a minute, a group of masked men swaggered through the ruins and got on a waiting car, driving away with a loud noise.
No way, no way! I shook my head again. It was only then that I noticed a huge screen slowly descending from the wall of the hall. The scorpion tail stood up and turned off the lights, the captain manipulated the computer for a few moments, and the projector linked to the computer projected an image of a crystal the size of a fist onto the screen. At the same time, everyone around me let out a gasp of amazement. I looked at the image in surprise, then turned my head back to scan the crowd in confusion in the darkness. Under the fluorescent glow of the screen, everyone had an expression of shocked infatuation, their faces filled with incredulity and admiration.
What's the big deal? It's just a crystal, isn't it? It's not even a diamond, does it deserve this expression?
The captain stared at the screen with a dazed expression, shaking his head and clicking his tongue: "It's really unbelievable! Another Kuril!"
"My goodness!" The birdman exclaimed with a dull gaze: "Such a huge diamond, priceless treasure!"
Diamond!!! I suddenly inhaled a mouthful of air, wanting to cough but couldn't, and was choked by my own saliva. My face turned bright red for half a day and I couldn't catch my breath. All I could do was stare blankly at the screen at that infant fist-sized crystal, my fingers trembling uncontrollably!
Is this really diamond?
Damn it, isn't that too much?! I take back what I said earlier! It seems like from birth to now, the largest diamond I've ever seen is probably the 2.4-carat "big diamond ring" worn on my relative's hand during their wedding!
Scorpio Tail is a woman, and women are naturally sensitive to this glowing body. She couldn't help but hold her hands in front of her chest, her eyes shining: "Oh my god! Another Kurinai, another beautiful one!"
Kim Ji-joon couldn't help but swallow his saliva, turned his head to glance at the crowd and asked: "What is Kuri-nan?"
The scorpion's eyes stared at the screen without blinking, and he explained without turning his head: "Cullinan, also known as Cullinan in English, is the largest diamond in the world, discovered in South Africa in 1905. It was the size of a fist and weighed 3106 carats. Unfortunately, this diamond no longer exists today. In 1908, it was cut into 9 large pieces and 96 small ones. The largest piece, weighing 1977.5 carats, was cut into a pear-shaped diamond with 97 facets, named Cullinan I, also known as the Star of South Africa. It was set in King Charles II's sceptre in 1910. Another piece, weighing 1041.5 carats, was cut into a diamond with 68 facets and weighed 317.4 carats, and was set in the British crown. Looking at its size, it must have been at least around 2000 carats!"
The captain nodded: "2,495.5 carats, 610.5 carats lighter than the Cullinan. To put it into perspective, there are only about 1,900 diamonds in the world that weigh over 100 carats!"
Looking at this fist-sized giant diamond in front of me, I couldn't help but think of the small and pitiful diamond necklace I bought for my mom. I sighed and said: "It would be great if it were mine! Now I really want to snatch it and hang it on the lamp in my bedroom!"
