Three Kingdoms New Lü Bu
Lü Bu was in Shuofang, building a civilian settlement, raising pastures, training cavalry, and repairing workshops. The people of Shuofang gathered together, and the soldiers' morale was high. Moreover, Lü Bu had plundered many nomadic tribes, storing up military supplies and armor. With some foundation established, Lü Bu began to think about his future. However, Shuofang was too small, and for the time being, he couldn't figure out a way out. Furthermore, neither Lü Bu nor Yan Ni knew what year it was in the Guanghe era (the author secretly informs everyone that the fifth year of Guanghe is equivalent to AD 182, but Lü Bu didn't know this). They didn't know what would happen in the future. For this reason, Lü Bu often regretted not studying more history and learning about historical events to prepare himself. Yan Ni's educational background was higher than Lü Bu's, but unfortunately, she studied management and wasn't very clear about history either. The two of them often lay on their bed together, sighing with regret that they hadn't brought some historical materials with them.
Regretful sighs, reality still has to be faced. Other things Lü Bu was not clear about, but the benefits of plundering nomadic tribes were obvious. So whenever Lü Bu had some free time, he would start thinking about which tribe to plunder next.
Then, in late April, Lü Bu again led Gao Shun and his troops to raid the Southern Xiongnu tribes. With over 200 cavalrymen, they set out from Shuofang and headed northwest for over a hundred miles. At this time, Lü Bu's Shuofang cavalry were accustomed to killing and plundering, each one being brave and skilled in battle. They would first shoot arrows while riding, then follow up with a massacre. When the Southern Xiongnu tribes were thrown into chaos and panic, they would divide into groups of five riders to slaughter them everywhere.
At that moment, Shi Lebu was stabbing a Southern Xiongnu woman to death. Cheng Lian hastily shouted beside him: "Yanluo Wang, someone has escaped from the tribe."
Lü Bu heard Cheng Lian's words and turned his head to look in the direction he was pointing. He saw a Xiongnu from the south riding a horse, dozens of feet away, whipping the horse's buttocks frantically, with four or five riders from the north chasing after him, hastily drawing their bows and shooting arrows. Unfortunately, perhaps due to the urgency, they failed to aim properly, and not one of the four or five arrows hit their target. In an instant, the Xiongnu was about to escape more than a hundred feet away, and it seemed that the pursuit would come too late. Lü Bu quickly took down his dragon-tongue bow, held an arrow in his left hand, and let out a soft shout. The bow was full, like a round moon, and he shot at the escaping Xiongnu. Suddenly, there was a sharp "ting" sound, the arrow flashed like lightning, and a curved light shot towards the man.
That Southern Xiongnu was galloping wildly on horseback, and it seemed that he would soon escape into the sky. Unexpectedly, his right shoulder suddenly felt a chill, and a piercing pain spread from his right back to his shoulder. The sharp pain almost made him fall off the horse. The man was in agony, afraid of falling off the horse, so he leaned forward on the horse's back, his hands tightly grasping the horse's mane. In his mind, he kept repeating: Han people, Yanluo Wang. Han people, Yanluo Wang.
Lü Bu saw from a distance that the man was shot by an arrow, although he did not fall off his horse. Lü Bu thought to himself that with just one arrow, coupled with the urgent and chaotic situation, he was in a hurry to plunder the tribe and had no time to chase after the man, so he hastily urged his subordinates to act quickly and prepare to return to Yanmen.
Lü Bu's army killed 113 Xiongnu herders, and one person escaped to the southwest, with an unknown fate. They plundered countless supplies, horses, cattle, and sheep, then hastily retreated back to Shuofang.
The Xiongnu man galloped day and night, exhausting his horse to death. He then rolled and crawled, crossing mountains and ridges, until he reached the Yellow River. Holding onto a wooden branch, he drifted down the river, passing by the Great Wall, and continued fleeing south. After two days and one night, he escaped over 300 miles, finally finding a Southern Xiongnu tribe.
When someone from the Xiongnu tribe found him, he was no longer human-like. He spat out a few words and fell to the ground dead: "Fusu... Han people... Yanluo Wang..."
When the southern Xiongnu saw the bow and arrow on his back, they knew that he had been killed by bandits and did not dare to be slow. They quickly found the leader of the tribe and told him what the man had said before he died. The tribal leader knew that the Fusu tribe was outside the pass and might have encountered trouble, so this person came to seek help. So they immediately gathered a dozen strong men from the tribe, went out of the Great Wall, and rushed to the Fusu tribe day and night. When these dozen strong men arrived at the Fusu tribe, they were stunned by the scene in front of them. The entire tribe was empty, with all livestock and property looted. In the north of the tribe, flies flew around, and the bodies of men, women, old people, children, and babies piled up like mountains, with a knife cut on each throat. The bandits' methods were more poisonous than those of the Xiongnu and Xianbei.
From then on, the name of Yanluo Wang slowly spread from the Southern Xiongnu. 'Yanluo Wang' was a person who took people's lives.
Now, there was a brave warrior among the Southern Xiongnu. After the Southern Xiongnu surrendered to the Han, Emperor Wu granted them the surname Liu, and this man's name was Bao. He had a robust build, with strength like an ox, and could be called the number one brave warrior of the Southern Xiongnu. This person considered himself brave and strong, and was unwilling to submit to the Han court, extremely dissatisfied with the Chanyu. He often stirred up his fellow tribesmen from the Wusun tribe, inciting the Left Virtuous King of the Southern Xiongnu, Che Niu, to rebel and establish his own regime.
In the sixth year of Xiping, after the Han army was greatly defeated by the Xianbei, Liu Bao's rebellious heart became more apparent. Che Nuo also had a mind to stand alone, but he feared the great power of the Han court. Although the Great Han is now in chaos and the emperor is foolish, a dead camel is bigger than a horse, and the Left Department of the Southern Xiongnu has only tens of thousands of people. Even if the Han court does not intervene, it would be difficult for the Chanyu department to win alone, let alone with the Right Department watching from afar. Therefore, Che Nuo endured patiently, waiting for an opportunity.
This time, the Wushe tribe that was killed and destroyed by Lü Bu was a subordinate tribe of the left tribe of the Southern Xiongnu, Wusu. Wusu saw his own clan being destroyed, and he was so angry that he shouted loudly, but he didn't know who Yanluo Wang was. He only knew from the bow and arrow pulled out of the back of the person who came to seek help, and from the mouth of the Han people, and didn't know what other clues there were. Wusu was not clever, and usually followed Liu Bao's opinion. So after Wusu knew that the Wushe tribe had been destroyed, he came to find Liu Bao. Liu Bao didn't care who had destroyed the Wushe tribe, but when he saw the bow and arrow and knew that the person seeking help had said "Han people" before his death, he knew that an opportunity had come. So he took Wusu to find Zuo Xianwang Che Niu.
Liu Bao was furious all the way, as if his own clan had been annihilated. As soon as he saw Che Nu, he shouted: "Zuo Xian Wang, my tribe has been annihilated by the Han people! We will go to find the Chanyu and ask for an explanation. If the Chanyu does not give us justice, don't blame me Liu Bao for not respecting him as the Chanyu."
Che Niu still didn't know what was going on and asked: "What's happened?"
"Wusigi said: 'A few days ago, someone from the Wusu tribe came to our department for help. Unfortunately, that person only mentioned the Han people and Yanluo Wang before he died. Our department then sent someone to the Wusu tribe to investigate. Chen Xianwang, do you know what they saw?'"
"What did you see?"
"Woe is me! All dead, all dead. The entire Wusun tribe, men and women, old and young, have been slaughtered. The Han Chinese Yanluo Wang not only took away our livestock and property, but also killed every last one of us, including three-month-old infants. Even devils wouldn't be so cruel! King Qienüxian, you who are high above, must do justice for me. If the Chanyu doesn't give me an explanation, I will no longer recognize him as my Chanyu."
Che Niuer thought this was a good opportunity and asked: "Are you sure it's the Han people who did something bad?"
Liu Bao handed the bow and arrow in his hand to Che Niudao: "This bow and arrow are evidence, the person who asked for help said before he died that it was done by the Han people."
Che Nu carefully examined the bow and arrow. Indeed, bows and arrows are generally similar. However, the craftsmanship of Han, Xiongnu, and Xianbei people's bows and arrows is different, and upon close inspection, it can be seen that this is a Han-made bow and arrow. He said: "Good. With this arrow, we will go find Chanyu. If Chanyu does not give Wu Su brothers a satisfactory explanation, I, Left Virtuous King Che Nu, will also give you an explanation."
Then Che Nu took Wu Su and Liu Bao to find the Chanyu of the Southern Xiongnu, Qiangqu.
Qiang Qu looked at the arrow in his hand and said, "This arrow is indeed owned by the Han people. However, it's difficult to determine that the disaster of the Fusu tribe was caused by the Han people just because of this arrow. The person who sought help has already died, and there is no evidence to prove otherwise. It's possible that the Xianbei people framed the Han people. My brothers, we must investigate carefully before making a conclusion."
"Carnew, I haven't spoken yet. Liu Bao shouted loudly: 'I say, Shanyu, are you the Shanyu of the Xiongnu or an official of the Han? Why do you always excuse the Han people? The Wuji tribe was annihilated, how can this great hatred not be avenged? This bow and arrow is evidence, how could the person who sought help lie? Shanyu, don't forget that you are a Xiongnu, not a Han person.' Liu Bao's tone was full of disrespect, Carnew just watched from the side. Wuji had already suspected it was the doing of the Han people. Originally dissatisfied with Shanyu, now seeing Shanyu speak for the Han people, his heart was even more hateful. But he didn't know how to refute, and his eyes widened in anger."
Liu Bao saw Wu Si's attitude and spoke out, saying to the Chanyu: "The Chanyu does not help Wu Si, I will share difficulties with Wu Si brothers. Wu Si brothers, let's go." He said and took big strides to leave the Chanyu's tent, Wu Si followed closely behind. Che Niu's mouth corner slightly raised, he also followed to leave the tent with his hands tied behind his back.
