Chapter 18: Blame Me for Being Too Enchanted

Chapter Eighteen: Blame Me for Being Too Obsessed

Yin Shu looked around the corner and couldn't see her, so he forced himself to get on the car, started it, drove for a while, stopped, took out his phone, dialed a few numbers, and when connected, said: "Dr. Qin, sorry to disturb you, my injury might have some problems... uh-huh, okay, I'll go over now... alright, see you in a bit."

He hung up the phone, lit a cigarette and stepped on the gas after a brief pause.

Gu Xixin walked into the corridor with her bag, and when she reached the entrance of the building, she seemed to feel something and turned around to see Kang Yue standing behind a pillar, holding a paper bag. He only came forward after Gu Xixin stopped in her tracks.

"After I finished work, I went to your unit to look for you. Your colleague said that you had gone out for an interview and hadn't returned yet. I thought you would probably go home directly, so I came here to wait for you."

"Why didn't you call me? I've been standing here for so long, and it's so cold?" Gu Xixin said, taking out her phone, only to find that it had run out of battery and turned off at some point.

  "Not long, just arrived."

Gu Xixin looked at Kang Yue's pale face with suspicion. Thinking of the scene just now, "Just now, you..." but couldn't continue.

Kang Yue smiled and handed the bag with a card to Gu Xixin: "You didn't say you wanted to eat their cake? I just bought it, this is the address of that store, unfortunately they don't deliver takeout." Kang Yue said, but the loss in his eyes was still very clear to Gu Xixin.

Gu Xixin looked at Kang Yue, wanting to say something, but didn't know what was suitable, after a while, she could only softly say: "Sorry."

This seemingly nonsensical sentence was understood by Kang Yue, who smiled and said: "What are you talking about? It's so cold, hurry up and go, if there's anything else, just give me a call, I'm going to bed too, I'm really tired today."

Gu Xixin watched as Kang Yue's dejected figure gradually disappeared into the night, wanting to say something but ultimately only opening her mouth. Rubbing her face in distress, Gu Xixin turned and entered the corridor.

At 10 o'clock in the evening, after deleting a paragraph of news draft that had just been written on the document for the fourth time, Gu Zixi sighed and closed her laptop, leaning back against the headboard.

Forty minutes had passed and Gu Zixin still couldn't write a satisfactory lead for the news article, her mind was as restless as a mouse catching.

An hour ago, Yin Shu called, and when Gu Zixin picked up the phone, she suddenly felt anxious, saying that she had a manuscript to write. Yin Shu hesitated for a moment, didn't say anything else, just told her to rest early, and then hung up the phone.

Gu Xixin thought of Kang Yue's desolate back when he left, and Yin Shuo's eyes with a hint of smile, finally let out a mournful cry and covered her head with the quilt.

Although she felt annoyed in her heart, the days still had to be spent. Gu Zhi Xin was not a saint, especially when it came to emotions, and she just followed her heart's instructions. Moreover, some people didn't even give Gu Zhi Xin the opportunity to shrink into a turtle shell.

At eight o'clock in the evening, Gu Zixin finished writing all the manuscripts in her hand and walked out of the newspaper building after shutting down the computer. She saw Yin Shu leaning against the car standing there. Yin Shu wore a black half-length woolen coat with a silver-gray Maserati behind him, which was particularly eye-catching.

Gu Xixin looked around and saw that no one was paying attention, so she quickly walked towards the rather stylish target.

"Busy?" Yin Shu saw her walking over and extinguished the cigarette in his hand, greeting her.

"How did you drive the car here again?" Gu Xixin said with a helpless expression, having said it many times before, but someone agreed readily to her face and still did as they pleased afterwards.

"It's so late now, there shouldn't be many people at your workplace, that's why you drove over here." someone said with a straight face.

Gu Xixin helplessly rolled her eyes and didn't argue with him. She turned around, opened the passenger door and got in.

"I heard that a French restaurant opened two streets away, the taste is very good, do you want to try it?" Yin Shu asked as he started the car.

"Whatever." Gu Zixin didn't have any particular thoughts either, anyway she was quite hungry at this time, anything would do.

The car drove onto the highway, and as it sped along, Gu Zhi Xin felt a growing headache from the increasingly dazzling streetlights.

Gu Xixin is a weird person, if this evaluation holds true, then there must be a prerequisite condition, that is, it only applies to emotions.

Don't look at Gu Xixin, who never gives in to work, but emotionally she is the kind of person who only takes a step forward when pushed by others. After that day, for the next three or four days, Gu Xixin used being busy with work as an excuse to brush off Yin Shuo's invitations, leaving Yin Shuo bewildered and even herself feeling embarrassed about her own awkward personality. Because she couldn't adapt to the sudden emotional changes, the huge development made her instinctively want to escape.

She couldn't just let herself pretend to be unaffected and continue socializing, nor could she directly tell Yin Shu: "Sorry, we're developing too fast, I'm not mentally prepared yet." Not knowing how to face Yin Shu, she simply avoided him.

Another reason that made Gu Xixin feel inexplicable was the small anxiety in her heart. She had feelings for Yin Shuo, which she couldn't deny, but when she really got close to him, she felt a mix of fear, anxiety and helplessness, always trying to pull away from this person. Gu Xixin felt at a loss.

Then, on the fourth evening when Yu Shu had an appointment with Gu Zixin but she didn't show up, Gu Zixin met Yu Shu at her home door after work.

"Have you been waiting for long?"

"It's not long." Yin Shuo's face didn't show much expression.

"......Come upstairs with me." Gu Xixin said hesitantly.

"Never mind, I can see you're quite tired today, so I won't bother you anymore. I just wanted to hear from you, how long do you plan on being 'busy'?"

  “……”

"I almost thought I was going to catch up with you, this thing is a beautiful dream that I suddenly had." Yin Shu still stared at her intensely.

Gu Xixin lowered her head and after a while, she finally spat out a few words: "Sorry".

"I don't think the information contained in these three words is beneficial to me." Yin Shu took hold of Gu Zhi Xin's hand, looking into her eyes, "Tell me, do you regret it?"

  "Yes... No..."

  "Huh?"

Gu Xixin thought, since it's like this, there's nothing to worry about. She took a deep breath and said, "I... I just didn't expect us to develop so quickly... beyond what I can bear. I know I'm like a turtle hiding in its shell, but...” Gu Xixin suddenly lost her words here, she looked up at Yin Shuo opposite her, unsure of how he would react.

"You really haven't changed a bit, still so eccentric." Gu Zixin said suddenly as she looked at her.

  "What?"

"Nothing. So you regret it? Found that you're actually not very interested in me either?" Yin Shu's voice had a hint of tension.

"No, I just..." Gu Zixin stopped talking.

"Alright, I get it. Luckily you didn't directly knock me out, got me so nervous." Yin Shu made an exaggerated gesture of wiping his forehead, then said seriously: "We have plenty of time, let's take it slow."

Before leaving, she asked with concern: "I'll ask you out again, you won't make excuses to refuse me, will you?" Gu Xi Xin lowered her head and didn't speak.

"It seems I'll be sleepless tonight." Yin Shu gazed at Gu Zhi Xin's eyes and said, "So, the current situation is that you not only don't want to accept me, but also can't let me pursue you?"

  "I didn't say that."

  "Is that agreed then?"

  "Alright."

Yin Shu smiled wryly a few times: "Go up, wait for my call tomorrow."

Then... then it became like this today.

Eating, watching movies, enjoying the night view, and going to bars, Yin Shu really seemed to be helping Gu Xixin adapt little by little. After that day, the two almost had no physical contact again. Gu Xixin could feel that Yin Shu was waiting for her to adapt and accept.

Gu Xixin knew in her heart that she liked Yin Shuo and was willing to be with him, but for some reason, when the two really got close, Gu Xixin still felt a little awkward and even fearful.

This feeling came without any reason, yet she couldn't ignore it.
