Chapter 9: Mother, is an extremely cruel term
A white light suddenly flooded into the dimly lit room, barely illuminating the situation inside. The kitchen where the accident happened was still sprinkled with white lime powder.
The entire room was filled with a faint musty smell, an air of decay.
Wei Chi took out the flashlight from her bag and started walking around the room. There were only two bedrooms, and Liang Chen's bedroom didn't have much in it - just a bed, a desk, and except for some moldy homework books, there was nothing else.
The cat went around in circles inside and felt a bit uncomfortable.
After leaving this room, push open another door,
It should be a man's bedroom. The cat saw the rotten cotton on the bed board, some clothes, and broken thick ropes.
A window with a spider web lets in a little light, and rainwater keeps splashing in, forming small water flowers.
The room was a mess, but on one wall were rows and rows of certificates. Wei Chi took out her camera and began taking pictures. Miao Qi knew that Wei Chi was doing this for Liang Chen, and couldn't help but feel moved, her eyes welling up with tears.
Actually, Liang Chen's father cared about him, but fate treated him like that, making him contract such an illness, unable to control himself, and even harming the person he loved most.
The cat slipped in by itself, a huge rat suddenly came out from the corner and slipped past her feet. The cat was startled, dodged several times but knocked over the bedside table.
With a loud crash, she apologetically clasped her hands together. Wei Chi was about to help her lift up the bedside cabinet when his movements suddenly paused. Mao Ni also saw it - the drawer of the cabinet had been knocked open, and inside there was only one photo frame, which contained a woman's photograph.
Miao Ni stretched out her hand to take the photo frame, and Wei Chi helped steady the cabinet before coming over to look at it with her. The woman in the photo was very beautiful, with a warm and gentle smile. Miao Ni suddenly thought of her own mother, whom she had never met... no, that wasn't right, she should have seen her, but she herself had been unconscious, not even catching a glimpse.
Wei Chi's eyebrows furrowed slightly. To them, the word "mother" was an extremely cruel term, even if it also contained affection.
"It looks just like Liang Chen, it must be his mother." The cat sighed and put the things back in their original place. Although she wanted to bring it to Liang Chen, the police seal was still there, and moving anything was not allowed.
"Wait." Wei Chi suddenly stopped Miao Miao's movement.
"What's wrong?" The cat stopped in its tracks. At this moment, the light outside the window was shining directly on the photo frame. Behind the woman's smile in the picture, there seemed to be something else.
"Give it to me."
Suddenly so serious, the cat immediately handed the photo frame over to him.
Wei Chi flipped over the frame, opened it directly, and the cat was about to stop her, but suddenly widened her eyes. Inside the frame, there was actually another piece of paper hidden, a yellowed paper with words on it.
Wei Chi carefully opened it, and the cat hurried over to take a look. After reading those words, she covered her mouth, not knowing whether to cry or laugh: "My goodness! Liang Chen has been saved, what should we do now?"
Wei Chi also smiled and looked at the happy cat, without forgetting to take out her phone: "Of course, call the police."
When the local police arrived, it was just a matter of minutes. When Cat Niur handed over the letter that could be called a will to the police, the police nodded: "Thank you for finding the most critical clue in this case. We will immediately hand this over to the court of Mingze City. After verification, Liang Chen can be released without guilt."
"Really?" The cat couldn't help but jump up, Wei Chi took a look at his phone, he had already taken a photo of the contents of the letter paper, guessing that Liang Chen had seen it, and all this would be over.
"Can we take this photo with us?" The cat pointed at the frame in his hand.
"No problem, now that we have the most important evidence, these are no longer important." The police said, and led the team to leave, and took them along the way.
Sitting in the police car, her cell phone suddenly rang. It was Jing. Hadn't she even told her the good news yet? How did she already know?
The cat's mouth was raised as she answered the phone, and after listening to a few words, her smile gradually solidified, like it was stiff on her face. The phone slipped out of her hand and fell onto the car floor.
"What's wrong?" Wei Chi asked tensely.
She grabbed Ou Zhi's hand in a fluster, tears gushing out uncontrollably and covering her cheeks, choking back sobs before speaking: "Liang Chen has a high fever... pneumonia..."
Wei Chi furrowed his brow, as if he had a bad premonition.
"The doctor said it's very likely... he won't make it through tonight..."
